1000's of Children in Ho Chi Minh City with Bird Flu Symptoms

Hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City have been filled with thousands of children who have caught respiratory and digestive illnesses due to the hot weather.
Pediatric Hospital I reported that it had examined nearly 4,000 children patients a day with some 85 per cent of them suffering from respiratory problems, said a hospital doctor.
Meanwhile, more than 3,000 children were brought into Pediatric Hospital II on Monday. One-third of the children had respiratory problems and 300 others had digestive problems.
Besides, many children have been hospitalized for brain diseases caused by the entero virus.
The major reason behind the illnesses is that children are sleeping all night with fans on due to the hot weather in recent days.

Recombinomics Commentary: The deafening dearth of data in Vietnam may have ended.
The number of children alone would be cause for concern, but large numbers of patients with respiratory and digestive illness and "brain diseases". in
Vietnam ring alarm bells very loudly.

Serious H5N1 testing is indicated, although results from Quang Binh, Haiphong, and Quang Ninh have not been reported.

Bird flu monitoring in Vietnam is well beyond scandalous.

We are less than two years away from a massive pandemic, my guess is 40% of the worlds population is going to perish soon.

Between the Congo and southeast asia, sterilizing any potential microbial material brought back from space probes like in the Andromeda Strain becomes a moot point.

Two oceans means nothing in this day of global travel.
It meant nothing in 1914 (or whenever that flu pandemic happened) either.

You can just feel it brewing, both Africa and Asia are brewing some serious stuff, and it's about to break Oceans will not protect us at all because the political will to isolate our country in case of an outbreak does not exist, better a billion or two perish than offend somebody. I've been watching these stories for a couple of years now. My "gut feeling" is that we're very close.

Viruses cross oceans in a single bound.

"Good thing we are buffered by two oceans."

Exactly where the 'perfect storm' of the new H5N1, which infected an entire family of five in Haiphong possibly signaling H5N1 has finally achieved efficient transmission to humans
and the new Marburg ends up depends on jets and vigilance.

If worse came to worse, we could quarantine our nation. Still think a virus could travel trans-ocean w/o a human carrier?

This could be the one, but if it's not, the Marsburg virus is out of control too, and there is no cure for it. A couple hundred people have already died from it and hundreds more are infected, with 8 of them being in Italy. That was during the time the huge crowds were in Italy for the Pope's funeral. Hopefully, no one from other countries were infected.

It could be the worst disaster in history IF someone attending the funeral was infected and got on a plane filled with people heading home to other countries. It has up to a 20 day incubation period so we won't know for a while yet.

All we are buffered by is a 15 hour plane ride.

That will ease the oil demand.
