I've been up since 3:45 am (EDT). Just to watch a chimney! I think the dominant question this morning in the conclave is the Ratzinger question: will they want him as Pope, or not? We will probably never know the course of the voting, but the key indicator is the shift in numbers for Card. Ratzinger from the first to the second balloting today. If his numbers go up, then his candidacy is strong; if down, his candidacy is over, and the Ratzinger--George--Arinze axis looks for a compromise candidate.

Mark a place.
Can't say for sure if I can hang in for the morning vote.
Lunch time for them at Noon, one whole hour away.

The MSM bias is so evident.

I mean after one vote, they all claimed the Conclave was moving against Ratzinger or that they were hopelessly deadlocked.

I'd like to see anyone get 115 men who don't know each other and have them conjure up a 2/3 vote on the first vote.

Please.

By the by, I'm hoping for Francis Cardinal Arinze, all the pluses of Ratzinger, but alot of joy in the third world!

We know now.

The first vote of this morning (second vote of conclave) did not yield a winner.

We would see smoke by now.

So we are now on the third vote of the conclave, second of the day.

Wish they would do us a favor and vote, instead of keeping us all on a lurch.

Im so sick of watching the television CNN and the BBC - the extreme bias and endless whining for a liberal pope is just sickening.

Do people understand that these pleas are pleas asking for a pope who is more secular and exactly what that means in the overall picture?

We are at war FRiends!

Well, they do not have to take two votes before Noon.
They are "permitted" two votes before Noon, right?

I mean, what if the second vote yielded no winner,
but the third did? Do they burn the second ballots
and send up black smoke, then follow it with white
smoke on the third, or just burn the second ballots
with the third and let both burn white?

Let both burn white.

From what I've heard on EWTN, here is how it works.

Two votes in the morning.

Two votes in the evening.

If the Pontiff is elected in the first ballot (morning or evening) then the result is announced right away (which means that we are now on the third ballot of the conclave, second of the day). If the Pontiff is elected on the second ballot (morning or evening) then both groups of ballots are burned white.

If no Pontiff is elected on both ballots of any one voting period, they burn black.

Did you see the Jimmy Kimmel show last night? They claim to have a hiden camera in the Conclave, even call it the Conclave Cam.

They kept going back to it during the show; the first time they showed it, the Cardinals were doing "rock, scissors, paper" to pick the new pope; the last time, it showed the Cardinals doing potato sack races.

No, I have never watched that program.
Was it funny?

I am about to crash.
IF you're awake and there's white smoke,
call my cell ok? I'll leave it on tonight.

No, we've already had the first vote of today (second of the conclave). I believe in fifty minutes we'll see what the results of the second vote of today (third vote of the conclave).

That's what Fox is saying; 6 a.m. EST.

But he said something about them not burning their ballots on their first vote of the day if they don't elect a pope.
