Anybody listen to Glenn Beck today? (Columbus Mayor Coleman Confronted on Mifflin H.S. Incident)
April 20, 2005 | Me

Posted on 04/20/2005 4:47:07 PM PDT by Columbus Dawg

I have not been able to find anything on this on websites, but did anyone listen to Glenn Beck today?

He called out Columbus Mayor Mike Coleman for the handling of the horrible incident at Mifflin High School in Columbus. Coleman, was committed to go on the air with Beck but he stiffed him and then Beck had a guy pretending he was Coleman call in. This part was hilarious. Coleman finally called in at the end and you could tell he was livid. Coleman was evading answers and Beck had a tough time getting questions past Coleman's interruptions. Beck tried to ask him how he felt about this incident as a man and a father. Coleman said "Don't question my manhood!" Absolutely unbelievable! If anyone has found a website that has this, please respond. This mayor wants to become Governor of Ohio and if today is any indication of how he would handle things, this guy has no business being governor and he embarrassed himself on national radio.

Good question. Perhaps an Ohioan can fill us in.

The guy pretending to be Coleman was Beck's producer, Stu.

Last name: "Pedd"?

The overall concensus here (Columbus) is that everyone has their head in the sand about this. One of the local guys that's on after Rush said he couldn't believe that Mayor Mike (I'm not fan of the Mayor's by the way) was less than bright to walk into the situation he did on Beck's show.

Not because he went on the show, but because he went on there and gave non-emotional answers. He gave political answers.

It was sort of like with the 1988 Presidential Debates and Bernie Shaw asking Dukakis about "If Kitty Dukakis was raped...". Dukakis responded like a robot. Instead of showing any real anger, Coleman acted defensive instead of outraged, etc.

It should be real fun next year to have Mayor Coleman and Secretary of State Blackwell square off for Governor (if they win their parties nominations). Ken Blackwell is my hero, he'll kick Coleman's can.

Here are two links - the first is Glenn leading up to Coleman's call (what apparently irked him enough to call in) and then the actual call:

Don't be so serious! I was just having fun with Hannity's "Man in the Street" gig where he asked NY dummies if they were going to vote for "Stu" for VP (since they didn't know who was running...)

Amazing how many he got to admit they were going to vote for "Stu Pedd"!

Still, I can't help but wonder if that's where Beck came up with the "pet" name ( as a tongue-in-cheek reference to Hannity's "Stu"...)

Unfortunately I work in a bunker that gets one AM station 1100 and I work on an underpowered computer that barely handles the work I am supposed to do let alone extracurricular activities.

Having seen COleman up close, I can tell you that the man, who has Clinton's old touring bus now for his campaign, is a classic politician. Makes you feel you need to wash your hands after seeing him. No joke.

With a friend or two that have worked at Mifflin, I can also tell you that the rep there is one fraught with problems over the last few years. The principal, being new, had her hands full. At least sixteen teachers apparently transferred out at the end of the last year. Fights at games are not only not uncommon, but have caused a change of schedule to Saturday mornings in the autumn, and have spread to the basketball season as well.

Coleman's comment of "Don't question my manhood" was just classic.

This is still being talked about on 610 WTVN right now.

Coleman has handled this terribly.

Sorry, I rarely get to listen to him myself unless I'm on the road. Too bad, because he's got the best sense of humor of all the conservative talkers.

Yea, I'm listening to Joel's show..

Coleman is just a wuss..always has been. I lost all patience with him on the conceal/carry ruling a couple of years ago.

Coleman came across as evasive and blustering, Beck as sincere but not quite closing in for the kill. Coleman no doubt thinks he won, but I rate Beck the winner on points.

In essence, Coleman insisted on filibustering and trying to hide behind the ongoing police investigation. In response, I wish that Beck had made and pressed the point that Coleman had a responsibility to address the policy issues raised by an instance of apparent teacher misconduct with a student and a lax response by the local school board.

One does not need to assume the guilt or innocence of the specific teacher involved in order to discuss what should be done when there is good reason for a school system to suspect misconduct. Preliminary or protective action for the good of the students does not presume guilt any more than a police investigation presumes guilt or a court presumes guilt when ordering a defendant to be held for trial. School systems and teacher unions -- and their political allies -- universally tend to be protective of school teachers and staff and to give them the benefit of the doubt instead of giving the highest priority to protecting students.

In context, Coleman's comments indicate that he sides with the teacher, the school system, and the unions against the best interests of the students. I know nothing whatever of Coleman or the incident beyond his exchange with Beck, but I hope Coleman suffers political defeat and a humiliating exit from public life.

Don't you know, "zero tolerance" only applies to kids who bring aspirins, Bibles or little plastic GI Joe rifles to school. It certainly doesn't apply to corrupt union trash and it's paid-for pet politicians who sit by and do nothing while disabled girls are stripped naked and violated in front of half the student body.
