Mother of Rape Victim Responds to Mayor Mike Coleman's comments (Thanks Glenn Beck)
WTVN-AM Columbus, Ohio | April 21, 2005

Posted on 04/21/2005 1:41:27 PM PDT by Columbus Dawg

During the 4:30 P.M. news report this afternoon, WTVN-AM had an exclusive comment from the mother of the young female rape victim at Mifflin High School in Columbus. There is no link on WTVN's website... www.610wtvn.com

The mother is angry at Mayor Coleman for his comments last night. She is thankful to Glenn Beck for exposing this. She believes that some local officials are obstructing.

John Corby, the host currently on WTVN, is reporting that the Mayor's Office is accusing WTVN of being "right-wing." Former Mayor Buck Rinehart will be on soon. Former School Board Member Bill Moss (a true blue liberal who stands for something and would have stood with this girl) was interviewed earlier.

This is a national embarrassment to Columbus.

Columbus had a national embarrassment last year when one of their lefty residents assaulted and injured an American soldier home on leave.

You can bet that if a gay, lesbian, or transgendered student had been assaulted, the politicians and school admins would be tripping all over themselves to get to the microphone to apologize, and to announce swift punishment of the perps...

Rape is rape. The mayor should do his duty in protecting citizens from assaults, or he should get the hell out of his job.

I listened to the Glenn Beck "interview." Don't know this mayor and he may be the biggest left wing jerk on earth. But Beck did nothing but interrupt and sandbag the guy. I think Beck did not understand what the mayor was saying.

Beck kept demanding to know if the mayor was outraged that the administrators who covered this up were transferred to other positions but were still working. The Mayor kept saying I can't comment because the criminal investigation, for which I am responsible, is ongoing. Beck kept demanding that he wasn't asking about the criminal investigation and the mayor kept saying "you are asking about it."

Beck didn't want to understand that the administrators who covered it up (if they did) and even the higher administrators who transferred them to new positions, will ALL be investigated to see if they broke the law. So the mayor would screw that up by making political comments about what has taken place so far. The defendants would all say the investigation was biased and their defenses were prejudiced.

Not to mention that as the investigation is underway, there are all kinds of claims - that the girl was willing, that she was raped, that the administrators obstructed justice, etc. To take sides anywhere in this until the prosecutors charge someone would blow the investigation.

And every network would cover it for the next two weeks.

This was what the mayor was hoping to get you all confused about. The mayor is not the district attorney. Its lame him acting like that is his responsibility. He is the executive for the administration of Columbus, OH and the person responsible for representing Columbus to the rest of the world and he deeply embarrassed himself. These administrators very unlikely broke any law trying to to tell this poor father to do anything.. but even if they did, this is not the issue.

The issue is that if Beck hadn't decided to chase this, they would have gotten away with this, making a token firing and sweeping it under the rug. There is a serious problem in the school and in the school system in Columbus in general if they are going to essentially protect these people who try to cover up this sort of nightmare rather than deal with it. There have been several comparisons to Bernard Cardinal Law for a reason. Accepting the cover up, he allowed these horrible things to continue year after year in a whole number of places.. almost as great an evil as the original offense. And, all of these folks have not been held accountable, rather the parishioners of these churches have borne the burden of the cost of these horrors, and the sick and the poor who would have otherwise benefited by the monies paid to settle these suits.

In Columbus, the taxpayers ultimately will have to pay any costs associated with this breathtaking stupidity, and they have a right to demand that the City and the School wake up.

IMO there is no reason whatsoever that the Mayor should NOT have been outraged at this incident.

Beck asked him over and over if he condemned the raping of a handicapped girl and the Mayor SIDESTEPPED the question everytime.

That's why Beck kept interrupting him. He was trying to get a straight answer and he couldn't.

Whether you believe someone is guilty or not, your MORAL CONVICTIONS should be enough to be outraged over this incident and not defend it because there is an 'on going investigation'.

The Mayor was spinning so much I'm suprised he didn't fall over after interview.

"very unlikely broke any law trying to to tell this poor father to do anything.. but even if they did, this is not the issue"

IIRC, the principal did not call the father. One of the girl's teachers did. The principal asked the father not to call the police that day, but, rather, the next, saying something to the effect of he would be pleased with the outcome or some such. Having followed the story, it seems one of the LEOs for the HS was off that day. It could also be a delaying tactic to simply allow the heat of the moment to evaporate and the evidence to disappear.

I do have a question: are the girl and her attackers of the same race? Does anyone know?

Probably. The school is apparently about 85% black, according to the thread linked above.

Be sure to watch Glenn on Hannity & Colmes tonight too. 8pm Fox. Glenn didnt say who would be on the show to counter his view ala Colmes.
I was going to sit out this campaign, but I know what I'll be doing now. Campaigning for either Ken or Betty and AGAINST this disgraceful excuse for "MANHOOD" !!!
Stay outta NW OHIO Coleman. You are finis!

Has anyone heard from the dad of this young girl? I was so happy to hear "mom" speak out as she did! If Glenn and Stu are successful in planning their charity event in Columbus soon, this precious little girl will have her education paid for and NEVER HAVE TO STEP IN THAT GOD-AWFUL school again...

"a true blue liberal who stands for something"

a rare bird to be sure.....

I would respect liberals more if they stood up for what they believe and actually walked the walk.....

but what we get is limosine liberals busy spending my money and everyone else's but their own....sending their kids to private schools and making sure their families have the best health care and retirement around yet denying it for others.....

Coleman said on Wednesday that he was not going to take listening to the host of a national radio show who does not live in Columbus bash the city, so he picked up the phone, Ivanic reported.

"I felt compelled to give (Beck) a call and say, 'Hey, guy. What are you talking about?'" Coleman said.

The exchange between Coleman and Beck lasted about eight minutes.

"I wanted to know, 'Mr. Mayor, what are you doing to make sure that this kind of situation never happens again?'" Beck told Ivanic. "As a man, as a father, are you at all concerned about what I like to call the Cardinal Bernard Law syndrome happening at your school district, where they've taken a problem and shifted that to another school?"

Beck said he was outraged by Coleman's answers during the interview.

"I think anyone who heard the whole interview is outraged by the answers," Beck said.

He said he didn't hear answers from Coleman that he wanted to hear.

"He was a very strong politician who stuck to his talking points and wouldn't be shook and wouldn't talk about what I really wanted to talk about, and that was, 'Are you comfortable having someone in the school administration transferred to another school. Shouldn't they have been fired?" Beck said. "That question, he wouldn't answer."

Beck said he was glad to see that local media outlets continue to cover the story.

"I appreciate the fact that you guys are on the story," Beck said. "When somebody says, 'Let's not call the police because we don't want to involve the media,' I'm glad there are other media people that have sirens on them that say, 'Wait a minute, who are you trying to protect?' You guys are on the story, and I appreciate that."
