Heinz squeezes blame from pope (Teresa)
TRIBUNE-REVIEW ^ | April 22, 2005 | Eric Heyl

Were it not for the man now known as Pope Benedict XVI, Teresa Heinz might already have installed new drapes and carpeting in the White House. Or so she seems to believe.

Based on remarks Heinz made recently at a Seattle money-raiser, the Pittsburgh ketchup heiress -- a practicing Catholic -- appears to have little fondness for the new pontiff.

You can almost understand why. He did, if you buy her argument, indirectly help keep her husband, Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., from becoming president last year.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported last month that Heinz blamed Kerry's inability to unseat President Bush on anything and everything but Kerry himself.

She implied votes might have been improperly tabulated because most optical scanning devices used to count votes in many parts of the country are owned by two "hard-right" Republicans.

She also suggested the Kerry campaign was brought down in part by Catholic bishops who assailed the candidate's pro-choice view on abortion.

"You cannot have bishops in the pulpit -- long before or the Sunday before the election, as they did in Catholic churches -- saying it was a mortal sin to vote for John Kerry," she said. "The church has a right and obligation to teach values. They don't have a right to restrict freedom of expression, which they did."

I assume the Post-Intelligencer's Joel Connelly did his best to accurately quote her. No reporter wants to have to ask Heinz to clarify her remarks immediately after she finishes speaking.

We've heard it can be dangerous.

Last summer, American bishops received a letter from the Vatican advising that Catholics who condone abortion are committing "a grave sin."

"Does this sincerely limited woman understand that the Dogma was stated......."

I beg to differ.

Does this severely limited woman......

Alcohol has a way of breaking down inhibitions and loosening the tongue. Thank goodness it does - because otherwise she would not have been exposed for the phoney she is.

Did somebody - anybody - actually say that it was a mortal sin to vote for John Kerry?

No. A couple of bishops said that he would not be allowed in their dioceses. But Kerry met with McCarrick (archbishop of the DC diocese and "dean" of the American cardinals), who later made a statement that was pretty much gibberish about pastoral something or other and not using Communion as a weapon. (Sorry -- I slept through it ;D)

""You cannot have bishops in the pulpit -- long before or the Sunday before the election..........."

Catholics preaching beliefs of the faith, is forbidden?

BUT--- giving "walking around money" to black "ministers" to instruct their black congregations on how to vote is okay?

The bitch is nuts...
I would love it if MSM would put a camera and mic in front of this loony imbecile every day and broadcast her stupid comments WORLDWIDE..

Semper Fi

Man, talk about the gift that keeps on giving! If we could only get Teresa to divorce Kerry and marry Hillary (come-out come-out, wherever you are), we'd have the '08 election in the bag. Teresa is the 800 pound boat-anchor.

"The Pope did it"
Now, how many folks can say that?
Hard to imagine that Jean le Kerré is planning another run for the White House.

Why wouldn't he? He probably agreed with everything Teresa said and figured he was passing on immortal words of absolute wisdom. I never could figure out why these MSM types so worshipped Teresa, and Kerry himself. I know they hated President Bush and felt they had to do anything they could to unseat him, but good grief. Kerry was such a dog of a candidate that you'd think even they would have had to hold their noses.

Every damned photo of this execrable broad I saw showed her clutching a beer or some stein full of hootch. And all the media could do was rip on George Bush as being an "ex-alcoholic" and call him a "dry drunk." This foul-mouthed old bar bag spent practically the whole campaign bombed out her tree on the world stage, and got a complete pass.

I guess it's only OK when her husband and the Clintons went into the Black churches.

She is trailer trash, in spite of her gazillions.

So, when is she going to blame Karl Rove for electing the new Pope, or is that simply implied?

They also are continuing to attempt to set us all against each other on the basis of presumed sectarian differences. That isn't working, either.

That's just another way of saying what's been true all along - the Dims are still using the same tattered page out of the same 40-year-old playbook that they have all along, and we've adapted to it.

Now if we could just convince those quivering jellyfish we elected to the Senate of this, we might actually get somewhere.

IIRC, DU took care of that. She probably doesn't want to be redundant!

the Pittsburgh ketchup heiress -- a practicing Catholic --

The only "practicing" part of her Catholicism is probably chugging all the Communion wine.

We don't cotton to that racist talk around here. After all , she IS an African-American.

I wouldn't even give the courtesy of acknowledging her ethnicity..after all, she supported Apartheid in her home country...

Today I got my RNC *gold* card, the usual request for money and a line from Ken that any comments could be appended.

I sent no money, did not even put a stamp on the postage paid envelope and wrote him a "not a dime" letter listing what the GOP Senators, the Committee and the Party as a whole need to do before I ever donate again.

We have the majority and time's awastin'. I gave my demographics (female, senior, Jewish, moderate) and told him they would not lose my vote nor my husband's nor that of anyone I knew if they supported the conservative issues being obstructed by the donks.

They are treating us like little kids who would be mollified by belonging to some bogus club and showered with smarmy praise. I want tough action and results and that is what I told Mehlman.

Everyone else who got one of these cheesy cards needs to to take the time to once again write out the issues and the actions we want taken. It is up to the Majority Leader in the Senate to call the RINOs together and spell it out to them: a numerical majority without action and results is just as bad as being in the minority and being in the minority is a distinct possibility if they continue being nuanced and grandstanding for the legacy media.

I spend half my time mad at the donks and the other half mad at the GOP Senate. Receiving yet another expensive mailing that is wasting my money and everyone's time for nothing was today's final straw. I am insulted. If I get yet another boiler room phone call, I feel sorry in advance for the person on the other end of the line. I have let them know time and again that they already have a lot of money and it is time they did something to earn it.
