NASHVILLE, Tenn. - As members of the U.S. military watched on television via satellite from Iraq, Dolly Parton invited their boss, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, onstage at the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday.

The audience applauded as Rumsfeld appeared and thanked the troops serving in the military.

As people entered the auditorium for Saturday's show they were given postcards with "America supports you," printed on them. Audience members waved the cards and shouted their support to the troops watching on television.

Rumsfeld was sitting in the front row as Parton sang her hit "Coat of Many Colors" before he was introduced.

Great song! I love Dolly's music, and love her even more now!

It was a SPLENDID show! I just happened to surf by and I'm soooo glad I did. Not only am I a big Dolly fan but to have Rummy and the troops too, just wonderful.

Dolly is moving back to her bluegrass and traditional music roots much like Ricky Skaggs has. Very nice to see.

When I first read the headline, I thought it said "Oprah" fans.

LOL! I did too! My mother warned me, now I'm into bifocals.....

Hardly evidence of downsizing by Rummy as some suggest.

Sadly, following the show, Ms. Parton was taken into custody by leftist Earth Firster groups on the grounds of violating several laws of nature, including those of "gravity"...

Ricky Skaggs played at a W rally in St. Paul before the election. One great musician and entertainer. Concluded with a sincerely expressed endorsement of W.

I hadn't heard about Skaggs playing at a W rally, nor about his endorsement of Bush (not surprising though).

Your middle statement, I'm very much aware of. ;^)

Great Pictures, Thanks!
Among the things we really miss about East Tennessee are our season passes to Dollywood. I love Dolly's voice. As far as I'm concerned, nobody on the planet does a better job singing "I will always love you."

Oh yeah, I'm also a fan of Secretary Rumsfeld, but he has other assets.

Jeeze, if you put that pair in a '50s bra, they would be weapons of mass destruction.

Dolly is moving back to her bluegrass and traditional music roots much like Ricky Skaggs has.

Ricky is my first cousin. And by the way, not only is he returning to BG, he's also performing a lot of Southern Gospel music. One of the reasons he formed his own music label was to have the freedom to do such things.

Yes, I'm certainly aware of Ricky's gospel music having seen him in concert several times and also through his CD's.

I believe other bluegrass artists are recording on Ricky's label for the same reasons.

First cousin? Well,....cool beans! :^D

We knew Ricky way back in 75 when he was playing with the Country Gentlemen. They were friends of ours. I have pictures of Ricky with our son's tiny fiddle. It was at a festival near Memphis. Son was 4 years old and it was the first festival he ever played. Ricky was intrigued by the minature fiddle. Son went on to become one of the best fiddle players in Bluegrass, growing up playing in his dad's band and traveling all over America. He settled down when he married. Now he only plays once a month with the staff band at the Ohio Valley Opry in McConnellsville, Ohio. He is also an excellent Mandolin player. He reminds me of Ricky a lot. Plays all instruments and sings a lot like Ricky. High Tenor.

That's really interesting about your son WVNan, thanks for sharing that. It's nice to see the resurgence of interest in bluegrass and traditional music. Rock and roll just about did it in, (not slamming rock here, it was just real hard on traditional music performers at the time).

I don't know how those dedicated musicians like Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs etc. kept it alive in those days. Must have been pretty hard.

But I'm sure glad they did.

"As backup for Ricky Skaggs!"

That's indeed awesome. She must be a very good musician in her own right.
