What is good for the goose is good for the gander. Organize to screw your suppliers and eventually they will organize to strike back at you. I suspect that Walmart will be fighting labor issues from here on.

I had a long conversation with the wife of a Wal-Mart employee (truck driver) the other day. She praised his employer of 18 years. She said after 5 years of employment, Wal-Mart starts showering their employees with benefits. This man and his family have done quite well with Wal-Mart according to her. He has been transferred to a new distribution center in FL and Wal-Mart is paying the moving bills.

I agree with you on this one. If people want to get goods at third-world prices, they should expect third-world wages.

Here, the cafeteria has a frito-chili-melted cheese combo and a 32 oz soda for $2. The bank they rent to gives 2.5% interest (no time commitments, $1000 minimum) for savings accounts. They're always well stocked. You get cheap, mass-marketed stuff, not works of art.

America ain't what it used to be for workers. Nobody should be blaming WalMart...blame the forces that let cheap foreign labor and goods bring us down a peg or two.

In "Up The Organization" Avis' Robert Townsend suggested the following plan. (1)Quit. (2) Immediately apply for your old job and suggest the salary you would be happy with.

If you are right the company would be stupid not to rehire you at the new salary since the cost of retraining someone else would set them back a bunch. If you are wrong, well now you are free to look for that better job that you believe you deserve.

You have it quite right. Whining socialists. Of course Wal Mart can pay more, and for their better employees I'm sure they do. So work harder, be worth more, then follow Townsend's advice.
