Illegal Mexican Alien gets 5 years to life for boss's murder in Utah

An illegal alien, Hernandez will be deported from the country at the end of his prison term for murdering his boss at a Utah job site .......

Some form of closure came Tuesday for two families as a man convicted of murdering his boss at a Lehi job site was sentenced to five years to life at the Utah State Prison.

Jesus Hernandez, 34, pleaded guilty in March to shooting and killing his employer, Joseph Crummy, 38, of Salt Lake City, on Jan. 9, 2004, over a labor dispute at the Traverse Mountain development in Lehi.

Crummy's widow, Brenda, and Hernandez's wife, Jasmine, wept as they made statements before Judge Samuel McVey about the impact Hernandez's crime.

Brenda Crummy said when the police officer came to her home that day in January to inform her of her husband's death, she was nine months pregnant and her parents were in China on an LDS Church mission. She had to find a neighbor to console her in her great moment of grief.

"I was all alone," she said. "It's the worst thing you can ever have happen to you in your life."

Crummy said she's also experienced considerable health problems and financial duress since the murder of her husband and her children remain traumatized after losing their father.

"When they see someone Hispanic, they think he's coming to kill them," she said, adding that she has had to teach her children "some people make bad choices." Brenda C rummy said Hernandez's anger and frustration did not justify his senseless act of violence and said everyone has to deal with the daily stresses and hardships of life.

Despite the pain and grief experienced by her family, she told Judge McVey and Hernandez she does not hold a grudge.

"I want to tell Mr. Hernandez, 'I forgive you, but I'll never forget,' " Crummy said. "My heart goes out to Mrs. Hernandez as well."

Jasmine Hernandez said she and her husband of 12 years have three children. Though the family had struggled financially in recent years, she said Jesus is a hardworking and honest man. She said he served an LDS Church mission in Pennsylvania.

"I thought things would be OK since he had overcome so much," Jasmine Hernandez said. "This is going to have an effect on our daughters for the rest of their lives."

If she could, she would bring back Mr. Crummy to his family and her husband to her family, she said.

"Mrs. Crummy, from the bottom of my heart, I'm so sorry for what Jesus did," she said. "I know what it's like to have children crying for their father."

Jesus Hernandez also addressed the court and the victim's family and asked for forgiveness.

"I wish I could take back the sorrow I've caused, but I know there's no way to compensate," he said. "There is not enough punishment to pay for this crime."

David Sturgill, a Utah County prosecutor, told Judge McVey the sentencing should be based upon the facts of the case.

"The victim sat defenseless in the cab of his pickup truck and was shot a point-blank range," he said. "Hernandez ended a human life, robbed a wife and family of a father, robbed the victim of an unborn child, took away a son and uncle."

Judge McVey called the murder "a senseless act" and Hernandez's prior criminal conviction "a chink in his armor."

McVey's sentence included five years to life in the Utah State Prison and that Hernandez pay the victim's family a total restitution of $28,027.

Dana Facemyer, Hernandez's defense attorney, said the recommended time of his client's prison sentence is 20 years. An illegal alien, Hernandez will be deported from the country at the end of his prison term.

Jasmine Hernandez spoke briefly with Brenda Crummy and her family after the sentencing.

"I said I hope the best for her and her family and thankful for their forgiveness," she said. "I hope now that both families can have a little peace. My husband is truly sorry and will spend his future making up for his actions."

"I'm truly sorry" rings hollow after a murder done in cold blood.

Something is wrong with Utah law. The sentence is nothing and just gives the perp status in the criminal community.

[[I wish Hannity or O'Reily would take this story]]

Actually, last night O'Reilly did his lead story on an illegal alien that killed a lady in New York. The lady called a pressure washing company and they sent over an illegal alien who ended up killing the lady. O'Reilly claimed that it was no different than 911, where people that were in this country illegally were murdering US citizens and the federal government refuses to do anything to stop them. He laid out an interesting angle on it and I agree with him.

If you're an illegal alien from Mexico, you live in a protected class in America, thanks to our own government cowards. He'll be deported, but he'll come back, just like they all do.

I've never heard of such a light sentence for cold blooded murder.

I saw O'Reily last night - maybe a regular bit about illegal alien crimes would start to drive the point home

Equating a criminal in jail who murdered someone is not the same as having lost a husband to that murderer. Yet, in this country many will see equity in their situations. Apalling. That is where the liberal mind has taken us.

"There is not enough punishment to pay for this crime."

'Jesus' is correct. Death should be the penalty. And he should be ashamed of himself for having such a name.
