There has got to be a place left in this country where things are not entirely stupid!

I have been suffering fools for the last several years without much complaint (and at times slight amusement)but in the last 6 weeks or so the stupidity level around here has ratcheted up to the point of being unbearable.

I am used to the arcane laws here that will not allow you to trim trees or paint your house without a special permit. I am used to the permits being refused because when you filled the darn thing out you used dashes rather than slashes to separate the numbers in the date. I am used to my vehicle inspection being declined because of surface rust or a cracked plastic cover over a light.

I am even getting used to having to pay for a tunnel that I never use because it goes to an airport that was obsolete 30 years ago, and because it could collapse and is already flooding.

Lately the stupidity has entered my work and I don't think I can take it anymore. My work cannot be kept in my work area anymore because it is not a secure location; even though my work area has card access and where the stuff must now be kept is a room without a lock on the door and the door must be kept open by policy. I am doing three jobs because I do not have the time to train any new people because I am doing the work of three people. Now my supplies must be picked up during normal business hours even though I do not work normal business hours.

If you cannot tell from the above, I am trapped in a bastion of Liberalism and am surrounded by nothing but Liberal bastions. I think this is the cause of much of the above stupidity.

If you know of someplace in this great nation where freedom is still important, and the stupid are still a minority, please let me know.

I apologize for the whining but I don't know how much more of this lunacy I can take

To paraphrase the old song: I Gotta Get Out Of this Place If It's The Last Thing I Ever Do.

Nope, stupid has permeated the very fabric of our society, no where to run from it, no where to hide.

>>You need a vacation dude!

they are going to ban thumdrives and recordable cd's where i work. our new security czar is ex-secret service. i can still take my notebook home as long as there is no source code on it. makes telecommuting a bit of a problem.

Outsource your job to India and then you won't have anything to whine about.

A few years ago I had a new neighbor move in from the Ann Arbor area. One day I started burning a pile of brush in my yard. The neighbor came running out asking if it was legal.

The neighbor was obviously irritated and spent the next 3 hours sitting on his deck with a fire extinguisher at his side.

A few days later the local cop told me that the neighbor had called him to complain about me burning brush inside the village limits. (there's no ordinance)

Ever time I think I've seen the height of stupidity, someone takes it to the next level. The dumbest thing in America right now is Honda. They are bragging about how they design their cars to hit pedestrians more safely now. First, the airbags made idiots think they can walk away from a collision unscathed. Then, they put in side-curtain air bags so the idiots think they can pull out in front of a truck and take the hit. Now, those same idiots will think they can hit a pedestrian and the guy can get up, brush off his clothes, and walk away.

Stupidity in the name of Safety and Security is here to stay!

In 20 years I have seen every form of corporate stupidity. Take my word for it, Mr security's policy will not last long. Ride it out.

Wow...I see my own thoughts in that rant.

What "cured" me was a conversation I had with a southern gentleman while at a bar during a period of time that I was in the South on business.

His wise words: "You can't fix stupid."

Seriesly dude...you need to take a vacation and enjoy life a little bit. A news/FR sabbatical may be just the thing.

.....I am used to ......

"The gradually increasing temperature and the recent presence of steam" said the frog in the cooking kettle.

Look at the Red Zone County map and you will have a clue as to places where life might be more tolerable.

Any where South of the Virginia/Kentucky line will probably be an inprovement although near the cities there are enclaves of people who have imported the lunacy you describe.

I have family in the granite state but the problem there is Liberals from the Boston area screwing up their own towns and then escaping to the north and screwing up where they escape to.

My crusty old farmer cousin wants to start a Minuteman project along the southern border of NH
