Rockville (AP) - Hundreds of Latino immigrants - many of them illegal - gathered this afternoon in Rockville to protest proposed federal restrictions that would deny driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.
The federal Real I-D Act is part of the bill covering the costs of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It has been passed by the U.S. House and endorsed by the White House. Opponents say the bill will likely pass in the Senate - maybe as early as next week.
Maryland is one of ten states that don't require applicants to prove they are citizens or legal residents. Still, several immigrants spoke to the crowd of about 400 of their struggles to get driver's licenses.
Supporters of the bill say it would make it harder for terrorists to slip through security unnoticed.
Many members of crowd carried signs reading: "We're not terrorists" and "America is a country of immigrants."
And no one gathered them up. Our goverment is really serious about this problem.

I'd go much further. It may require a consitutional amendment, but I think the apportionment of the House should only be based on the number of US citizens in a state.
America is not a country of immigrants. It is a country of descendants of immigrants. Send em all back to Mexico, our jails are full of their hard work.

I don't want to over-react. I'm not saying that a national ID is end of our way of life.
Nor am I worried about some sort of military dictatorship - we have the strongest most robust democracy in the world -look at some of the things we have endured. And I'm not worried about this President - the current administration has learned it's lesson about over-reaching on human rights.
What I am worried about is a kind of creeping governmental intrusion where it becomes more difficult for normal people to go from place to place without being tracked and having to justify why they want to visit a certain city. That's just not American. And it's more likely to be a Hillary responding to a "national emergency" that lets it happen.
And I don't doubt that people coming here from central America will adapt just fine - they are used to that sort of thing. I'm more worried about my Grandfather who is not used to it and my future grandchildren who I don't want to become used to it.

We are not A COUNTRY OF IMMIGRANTS, and have never been. We were a colony that became a Country. From about 1790 the majority of Americans were born here, they did not immigrate here. Or it could be said that a country founded by immigrants is different than one being INVADED BY ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS.
What these Marxist are trying to do is to demean those that came here LEGALLY and equate them with ILLEGALS. Also, the immigrants of the past DID not get welfare, learned to speak the language, and gave up the culture and country they came from to become AMERICANS.
The illegal scum DO NOT what to become AMERICANS, spit on our flag, disgrace our culture, and try to find the quickest way to get welfare. They refuse to speak ENGLISH, and do no enforce the learning of it with there children. It should be considered child abuse not to teach your children ENGLISH. The story behind the story here is the individuals / and /or groups who are responsible for these so called organized illegal immigration rallies.
Hint...IMO they really dont have that much to do with immmigration per se..but they are interested in promoting anything that undermines the overall long term stability and sovereignty of the US.
Im thinking ANSWER, MOVEON, any number of Soros funded splinter groups, Workers World Party, misc socialist and other Marxist groups...etc...most of which have probably quietly setup branch divisions directly within the LA RAZA / MECHA latino groups.
Would make the basis of a good investigative report IMO.
