World Pictures News is a site I like going to for it's unique pictures. Today while I was looking at the pics of the aftermath of the suicide car bombing in Tahrir square in Baghdad I noticed this in the caption; "NO USA MAGAZINE AND NEWSPAPER SALES"
Why?
Are we to be shielded from these pictures?
Does the photographer not want these pics to be shown in the US to show the barbaric tactics being waged by the terrorist over there? (i.e.....The targeting of children)
Here's the pics we're not supposed to see......
NO USA MAGAZINE AND NEWSPAPER SALES An injured Iraqi schoolgirl is evacuated from the Aqida girls' school near the scene of a suicide car bombing in Tahrir square in Baghdad Saturday May 7, 2005. The bombing, which targeted a passing civilian contractor convoy just outside the school killed at least 22 persons in the late morning explosion in the busy commercial area in the center of Baghdad. Ping..........(Warning: a little graphic)
bttt
Sheeple can't handle it....doncha know.
We had a very censored view of the first gulf war as well. The american public never gets the full picture of any situation, thanks to the gatekeepers in charge of the media.
If they showed the soccer moms what those beasts are doing over there they might get agitated and want us to do something. Like, oh say, kill every last one of those SOBs. MSM can't have that now, can they?
IMHO it has nothing to do with the photographers desire but more to do with our government and the American people.
Definately not a part of the 'bread and circus' culture imposed on us from on high.

Hello,WorldPictureNewsSomeone just posted a notice to FreeRepublic.com that some of WPN's images have a caption of "No USA Magazine and Newspaper Sales". Of course he automatically assumes the worst, that people are trying to hide the truth of terrorist targeting children from the voters of a government that is battling them. Can you tell me if there's another explanation for this mark?
Here's a link to the discussion thread:

Thank you for you assistance.

Bill,Im the Director of Sales at WorldPictureNews (WpN) and we represent Scott Nelson the photographer who took the images in question. The reason the images are marked NO USA MAGAZINE OR NEWSPAPER SALES is that I licensed them exclusively to Newsweek. You can have your colleagues look at the May 16, 2005 issue of Newsweek and turn to pages 28-29. Newsweek ran the image more than a full page in size.
When a photo agency makes an exclusive deal with a magazine for photos the NO USA MAGAZINE OR NEWSPAPER SALES restriction is an industry standard restriction to protect the exclusivity of the image license.
We as a photo agency are very much opposed to censorship and as journalists do everything we can to avoid allowing our images to fall into the censorship void.
By the way, WorldPictureNews is launching our newly re-designed website this Friday. Weve added a feature I think you and many of your colleagues will like. For any photo on our site you will find a link that will allow you to email the image you are viewing to a friend. As you can and will continue to see, WpN is very committed sharing important photos of important situations with the world at large.
All my best,

Well, gee, that sure puts a damper on this thread...:)
good for you. glad you found that out. thanks. rules are rules, glad to see that these will hit american newsstands after all. we'll just have to wait a while.
Guess I'll have to pick up that issue of Newsweek.
Proof there is a private sector with capable and ethical people. And we thought there were only government employees........
In the printed news accounts it's always the number of dead that gets my attention. With photos it's the wounded that get my attention.
The next days, weeks and months will bring pain and dispair as they heal from burns and severe wounds. I try to think for a moment what it will be like for these victims - recalling my past injuries (comparatively minor)laying in bed with ice packs, etc. Or just think of what it's like to burn your finger on the stove, and multiply that over 1/4 of your body. God bless these kids.
Many will live with their injuries (lost eyes, limbs, etc.) for ever. And no doubt the emotional scars will be deep - even for those nearby not hurt.
OK boys and girls.....on to the next media coverup.....:-)
Have we authenticated this representative letter/email? Let me see the font.
That virtually guarantees that I will not see them. I don't even look at NewsWeak in the doctor's waiting room.
