I write to suggest that you do reporting on a story that has villains, victims, and heroes:
VILLAINS
Villain 1)
_The New York Times_ for:
a) its grossly-inaccurate portrayal of Terri Schindler Schiavo's actual condition (in reality, Terri was mentally-disabled with a minimal level of consciousness, and medical records and caregiver testimony note that Terri frequently experienced pain, including menstrual pain, and had some vocalization ability to express her likes and dislikes to people familiar to her, and ability to appreciate jokes).[not-pvs]
b) its editorials promoting a barbaric death-by-starvation for Terri.

Judge Greer, for his:
a) refusal to allow Terri's mother and father to give their daughter food and water by hand (before she was starved to death, Terri could eat food and drink liquid without taking it into her lungs).[not-pvs]
b) acceptance of Michael Schiavo's hearsay testimony that Terri wouldn't have wanted to be placed on life support, even as:
i. To say 'don't put me on life support' in common, everyday usage doesn't equal 'don't give me food and water through a tube.'
ii. Michael sued 2 doctors for alleged-malpractice in causing Terri's mysterious collapse, with Michael promising that money received from the lawsuit would go to Terri's medical care for the remainder of her life, with a life-expectancy of 51 years.[1992-3]
iii. Michael stood to gain $750,000 gross (present within Terri's medical care trust fund) upon a Terri death.[750k] Also, Michael lied in alleging that Terri said she wouldn't want to remain alive as a 'vegetable.'[cindy]
iv. Michael lied at a medical malpractice trial in order to obtain large sums of money:
he promised at the proceedings to stay true to Terri and his marriage vows, even as he had already had an affair with one woman.[1992-3, cindy] In later years, Michael would go on to father 2 children with a totally separate lover, all without divorcing Terri. To divorce Terri before her death would have meant forgoing $750,000 upon her death (whether by starvation or by non-treatment of a urinary tract infection): Terri didn't have a will, and upon her death Michael would inherit the medical care trust fund money-- greed was a key motive in Michael not divorcing Terri and in his helping prevent Terri's parents from becoming Terri's guardians.
v. shortly after the lawsuit settlement money was deposited in 1993 into a Terri medical care trust fund, Michael tried to kill Terri in 1993 by ordering that she not be treated for a urinary tract infection.[1992-3]
vi. Michael cruelly denied Terri any speech or physical rehabilitation starting in 1993.[e.g. Johnson, in caregivers]
Villain 3)
Michael Schiavo, for his above actions and for his verbal abuse of Terri through the years.[cindy] Michael's motive for wanting Terri dead after the medical malpractice lawsuit payments were deposited was greed (see above). Also, if Terri had received the speech (and physical) rehabilitation Michael cruelly denied Terri starting in 1993, perhaps Terri would have become able to communicate about Michael's verbal abuse of her.
Villain 4)
Michael's Dr. Cranford, who misdiagnosed a person who later talked and who misdiagnosed Terri.[not-pvs]
VICTIMS
1) Terri Schindler Schiavo, who had a minimal state of consciousness, i.e. was severely mentally disabled, and who nevertheless could feel pain and had limited vocalizing and other indications of her likes and dislikes, and who was starved to death.[not-pvs]
2) Terri's parents (Robert and Mary Schindler) and brother and sister (Bobby and Suzanne), who were forced to helplessly watch as their daughter and sister Terri was starved to death right before them.
3) Americans, for being so misled by _The New York Times_ about Terri's actual condition, and consequently not being able to make informed opinions about her court-ordered death-by-starvation.
HEROES
1) your news organization, for presenting this exposure of:
a) incompetence by _The New York Times_ in reporting Terri's actual condition,
b) Judge Greer's poor pro-Michael and anti-Terri and anti-Schindler rulings, and
c) Michael's greed in wanting Terri dead for money (even if that meant she died after Michael ordered that she not be treated for a urinary tract infection), and Michael's verbal abuse of Terri.
2) bloggers, for their valuable fact-checking of _The New York Times_
3) the Empire Journal, for its extensive reporting of corruption and conflicts of interest in this matter:

everyone is denying something here. and that is FACT. throw opinion out the window and look at things from a scientific standpoint. you say that the judge accepted that Terri told her husband that she did not want to be on life support as if that means i dont want to be fed food and water. in her particular case, that means life support! she could not be fed normally because it would kill her, hence the feeding tube.
another claim is that she felt pain. can someone explain the science behind a woman feeling pain even though that part of her brain that responds to the electrical currents that the brain receives as pain, is not only gone, but replaced by spinal fluid?
both sides on this have made this a political story when it is not. this is one family, (the schindler's) refusal to let go and accept facts. unfortunately, it is wackos like Randall Terry who exploited this family for their own political gain, and to no avail. the majority of polls show that the American public felt like this was a non issue. explain to me why this is still being discussed months after the ordeal, but nobody is talking about this:

it makes me a troll because i do not just accept whatever i am told? right. what that makes me is someone who is going to make sure what i am being told makes sense. a liar has no political party, and will lie to anyone. this is evidence showing that it may have happened.
actually i saw the article referencing on Newsday, and figured it was worth a look, especially since the British government has admitted to it being real.
you know the same British government that was with us in the invasion? now if we can impeach Clinton for lying about an affair, proceedings for Bush should not be far behind, at least a formal investigation into this.

NO, they can't. You can tell by the opening statement of every Schiavo thread who will be the heroes (usually the parents and family)and villains (usually M.S. and Greer) just by what the poster says. The articles used as basis are always slanted to fit their point of view and stance on the subject. I think I have said enough. Good post Buke.
