Yes, it was *partly* in jest. Watching what is going on with euthanasia around the world, it might actually come to that.

Compassion would have been to give her to her parents so they could care for her.

Absolutely. It never made sense to murder her via dehydration instead of just letting her family care for her as they desired to do.

Quoting from the article:

"While Gaskill's case doesn't parallel the late Terri Schiavo's exactly - Schiavo was in what some experts said was a persistent vegetative state for 15 years - doctors had all but given up hope that Gaskill would ever recover."

***

That is what makes the headline rather dubious. "Schiavo-like" -- as the article states further down from the screaming headline -- Ms. Gaskill case is obviously not the same as Mrs. Schiavo's. Truth is, doctors really don't know in many of these situations whether someone will recover from such brain damage. This particular woman's accident occurred two years ago. Mrs. Schiavo was incognizant for 15 years. There are also different degrees of mental function in both women.

As far as I'm concerned, stories like these are being put in our face now, not to celebrate a miracle, but rather, to inflame emotions and get people into an uproar. People like Ms. Gaskill are being used to further someone's agenda, and while I rejoice in Ms. Gaskill's recovery, I feel sorry that she is being used in such a way.

"Shame on them, and the deep thinkers on this website should realize Ms. Schiavo has met her maker and is in a much better place now."

The same could be said about anyone who dies or is murdered. It could be said about the holocaust victims and the millions more killed by communists. Why don't we all kill one another now so that we're all in a "better place."

A most ridiculous argument.

The life Terri had was her own, given to her by God, and NO ONE had the RIGHT to take it from her.

Perhaps she is being "used" (as you put it) to further a lot of agendas--mainly, prevention of killing people who are not actually dying. This notion of killing people off just because they've become inconvenient really has to be exposed for what it is. With abortion, the ultrasound pictures are finally proving what a lot of pro-lifers have said all along--those aren't "fetuses"--they're real, live babies. I hope one day we can do the same with the so-called PVS patients--many of whom do in fact come back, and often recall all that went on while they were unable to speak for themselves.

"No one here is wracked with guilt."

I think you are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. You and people who believe as you do don't feel the least bit guilty. And that reality is truly frightening.

No, I like debate as much as anyone. An interesting discussion would be one where distortion and ad hominem were not tolerated by anyone. You know, the kind of facts-based, logical debate Free Republic used to be pretty good at until this issue. This issue has become pure emotional rhetoric. The sane people bugged out of these threads long ago, even those who thought Terri should live, leaving only a very incestuous clique here who say whatever feels good, not tolerating any discussion that might confront the myths.

It was insane for me to think I could post a complaint here and have any of you decide for yourselves that maybe, just maybe, comparing every medical case to your ever-evolving fantasy of Terri's condition is a losing strategy. It is.

Dr. H. was not nominated for the Nobel Prize by anyone qualified to nominate him.

I'm not sure how you know that he wasn't nominated and not nominated by someone qualified since the info hasn't been released and won't be for a very long time. From the Nobel Prize website.

According to the Statutes of the Nobel Foundation, information about the nominations is not to be disclosed, publicly or privately, for a period of fifty years. The restriction not only concerns the nominees and nominators, but also investigations and opinions in the awarding of a prize.

http://nobelprize.org/help/faq/index.html

Looks like you are letting your agenda get in the way of facts.

Here is a very good link to the facts about Hammsefahr's "nomination."

You are the one that pointed out that there is a lot of crap on the net. You should stop posting it. The only site worth reading regarding the Nobel process and its nominees and winners is the Nobel Prize site. Not some crap site you come up with.

You know, if you don't like the link I gave you, that's fine. I fail to understand, though, why you feel it necessary to be snotty. Have a good day.

Are you suggesting that the Nobel Prize website wouldn't have the facts regarding their nominees? That is laughable!

What I am telling you is this: Look up the facts for yourself, since you don't like what I gave you, because your ignorance on the matter is showing. Google works great.

Nothing will make up for the way in which they killed Terri, but this incident and the one for the Buffalo firefighter speak volumes, and will do much to keep the 'please die with dignity already, or I'll kill you' crowd in the swampland, where they belong.

I got the facts from the Nobel Prize website. I guess you do think that they don't have the facts on their own nominees and nominators and that they don't know their opwn rules! haha

You are the one that is looking very foolish. The Nobel site says flat out the info won't be released for 50 years, yet you claim to know the facts. Congrats on your being a clairvoyant.

Look, my fellow Freeper, the man was not nominated by a qualified person. Can you understand that? I can nominate YOU for the Nobel Peace Prize, but it won't mean a thing, and you won't be a nominee. I'm not qualified to nominate you. Neither was the congressman who "nominated" the good doctor. Now, if you don't mind, since you feel the need to be so disagreeable, I'll just ignore any further responses on your part. Wish I could say that it's been a pleasure, but it hasn't.

I love how they keep bring up these miracles, which they are. And nobody is disputing them. Terri Schiavo was in the same condition for 15 years. So in essence what they're saying is we need to keep every "body" alive -- no matter what -- on the off chance that a miracle might happen. That's just not going to happen, nor should it.

Oh, yes, it's so very "intelligent" to call people incestuous, to claim that ideas other than yours are "emotional rhetoric", to say that anything except what you think is "fantasy." And by the way, FR has never exactly been a "bastion of politeness." Part of debate is the other side of the argument, something you seem utterly unable to tolerate.
