The success of CBS's "Everybody Loves Raymond" offers several lessons today's TV executives would do well to recognize:
It takes time to grow a hit.
When "Raymond" premiered in September 1996, the show aired at 8:30 p.m. Friday and had terrible ratings. Critics raved about it, but viewers didn't find it. CBS paid attention to the critical plaudits and moved "Raymond" to 8:30 p.m. Monday in 1997, where it grew into a hit.

LOL, good point. I hardly ever bother to tape anything anymore. I figure if it's that good, it will be repeated some time or another.
Someone else mentioned not giving new shows a chance to get going. I remember seeing an interview with Dick Van Dyke, and the same thing happened with his show in the early '60's. They decided to give him another shot, and the show took off. It's still one of my all time favorites, and reminds me a bit of Raymond. Every day situations taken to the nth degree, and they end up hysterically funny.
IMHO, women like this show better than men. I can't sit through an entire episode (after the few that I did see), as it is so predictable.
Ray will say or do something stupid. His mother will support him, and his wife won't. At the end, Ray comes to understand his errors. Along the way, Ray's brother will do something less odious than Ray, will be supported only by Ray's wife, and will lament the fact that "Everybody loves Ray".
The PMS episode was why I started watching "Raymond" at all.
I watch TV AND travel to Europe. So there. Ha.

Yeah the PMS episode was a good one. Now that I remember it, I have to add the episode where Raymond and Robert are waiting overnight in the car to play golf. The writing and acting were quite good.

The characters are all so mean to each other. It's hard to watch.
Or the one where Debra is in false labor in the car with Robert and Raymond! Love that one!
One of my favorites was the "Raybert" episode where Robert becomes Raymond and starts to attract women. The look on Roberts face when he gets caught is hysterical. And then his line... "I'm here to fix sprinkler" in a russian accent before he makes a run for it! lol
How clever. Especially from the man who says, and I quote "I didn't allow myself to drop to the government school educated level of 5th grade."

In fact someone called DMZ made a smart assed remark a few after yours. But, basically, I don't care what these people here or anywhere else say about me. What they say does not affect me or my life. I am not out to impress anyone here on a posting site or even in person. I don't care what they think here or even in person. I live my life as best I can. I don't bother people, I don't put my hands on other people, and I expect the same in return. If they do, then I deal with it at the time. But, I don't sit around worrying if people like me or not. It is not one of my big worries of my day. I only work to please my wife and family, do my job, live my life as best I can. But, I won't be treated poorly in person either. And, these whine bags here who make their smart assed remarks talk the big talk, but very, very, very, very few of them have the gonads to come to your face and say it. Oh, they will rap it on the key board and ask where you wanna meet, but they would never show up even if you did. I don't waste my time with them. The false labor episode. Youch! I felt Robert's embarrassment there. Frankly if I were Robert after that incident I would have traveled abroad for a while.
"Raybert" was hilarious. Brad Garrett (sp?) I think is a great actor. He portrayed Jackie Gleason a few years ago and made an otherwise standard TV bio-pic much, much better.
Do you remember the epidose where Frank was chiding Robert and Raymond about being nice to Amy and Debra in an effort to get what they wanted? He told them something to effect that being nice was a loser's game.
Ray asked him 'how do you get what you want then?"
Frank's answer was "I've learned to live without!"
My wife and I just howled!
