Heard of the New HK-416? Heckler & Koch Improved the M-16 Rifle
hk-defense.com ^

The HK-416 is a 5.56 x 45 millimeter caliber weapon that uses a Heckler & Koch propriety operating system originally developed for and used in other Heckler & Koch models such as the G-36. The Heckler & Koch propriety gas system does not introduce propellant gases and the associated carbon fouling back into the weapons interior (a fault in the M-16 rifle).

HK-416 is available in four configurations including 10 inch, 14.5 inch, 16.5 inch and 20 barrel lengths.

The system is similar to the Barrett M-468. It replaces the top of the M-16 rifle.

A number of HK-416 carbines are already in the hands of American Military forces fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. Reports from the field state they are performing superbly.

Heckler & Koch also has highly reliable thirty or twenty round magazines designed for use in any M-16, M-4 or AR-15 system.

Good to hear that HK-416 rifles are working well in the hands of American Military forces.

Heckler & Koch makes awesome firearms.

Last I heard they had stopped production on those rifles because Colt was being sue-happy and was bringing them to court for trademark infringement.

Apparently Colt thinks they are the only ones that can make an AR type rifle called 'M4'

In other words, it's an AR-18-type upper for the AR-15. Not a bad idea, since the AR-15 is so wretched about dumping gases and trash from spent rounds into the receiver.

DPMS makes an excellent AR type weapon.

Not as much as we used to, since the unions and liberals ran almost everyone offshore or out of business.

Still just a .223 cartridge though... there are good reasons that some of our special ops guys still use the M1 or similar rifles...

Which *still* has all the old AR-15 flaws.

My theory about the future of America is we will spend ourselves into oblivion. Current United States national debt for May 17th 2005 is 7,763,867,943,311 dollars.

When another depression hits because our Congress destroyed us I think the country will crumble and fall apart. Who knows how many years will it take.

It may just be the perspective, but the scope mount in that picture looks damn flimsy.

Not exactly. The HK upper doesn't blow gas and carbon directly into the receiver. It uses an AK type gas operated piston that keeps crud out of the inner workings. That's really the main gripe about the M16 type weapons, that and the terminal ballistics of the 5.56mm round at ranges further than 300m.

My comment was directed at the "DPMS makes good AR system rifles" guy. See my previous comment about this being an AR-18 type action and being a GOOD thing.
