Filibuster flap shows GOP hypocrisy (Here, kitty kitty! Blackened fish!)
Letter to Editor | Angela Berger

Posted on 05/21/2005 9:06:37 AM PDT by gutted catfish

Regarding "Filibuster's traditional use is ignored" (Letters, Wednesday):

The writer said the filibuster has never been used before to block a judicial nominee. The truth is that during the Clinton administration, 60 judicial nominees were blocked by Republicans, using means including the filibuster. In fact, Bill Frist even joined in the filibuster of 9th Circuit nominee Richard Paez.

Also, Democrats have approved more than 200 of President Bush's judicial nominees while only 10 have been blocked. For Republicans to make such a big deal over those 10 nominations while they blocked 60 of Clinton's nominees is extremely misleading and hypocritical.

It would also be in their best interest to preserve the filibuster, since they will be in the minority someday and I'm sure they will wish they had.

"...since they will be in the minority someday and I'm sure they will wish they had."

Just how many microseconds would it have taken for the Democrat majority to have implemented the "Nuclear Option" to pound down a recalcitrant Republican minority?

In the MSM, it would have been another, "Nothing to see here. Move along." day.

Probebly to see how the troll responds. IF it responds.

I have sensed a great disturbance in the force. As if millions of DUmmies suddenly cried out whining and were completely dumbfounded.

No Justice, No Paez
Mickey Kaus
Posted Saturday, March 11, 2000, at 11:36 PM PT

Last Thursday, the U.S. Senate confirmed Richard Paez, a federal district court judge, for a promotion to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. The Friday Los Angeles Times plays this event as a long-overdue ethnic triumph in the face of Republican obstructionism.

Under the headlines "Wait Is Over as Paez Wins Judicial Post" and "Paez Is Finally Confirmed," reporter Richard Simon tells us in his first sentence that Paez had won "after enduring a record 1,506-day wait." In the second paragraph we learn that Vice President Gore suspended his presidential campaign so he could be ready to cast the deciding vote in favor of Paez. In the third paragraph we're told 14 Republicans "broke with Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R.-Miss.)" to confirm Paez. In the fourth paragraph Gore is quoted, in Spanish, saying " 'Amigos, hoy finalmente hemos logrado justicia.' ('Friends, today we've finally achieved justice.')" The fifth paragraph begins

IT WAS NOT A FILIBUSTER!!!!! If the nominees don't even make it out of commitee they don't get a vote. Clinton's nominees didn't get out of commitee.

The first judicial nominee to be the target of partisan filibuster was Miguel Estrada.

Gutted catfish = lobotomized DUmmie

The truth is that during the Clinton administration, 60 judicial nominees were blocked by Republicans, using means including the filibuster. In fact, Bill Frist even joined in the filibuster of 9th Circuit nominee Richard Paez.

Sorry but facts and reality matter - First off, the "60" judicial nominees were stopped in "committee" where the laws of the Senate allow for this (this has happened throughout our history) - and none of these judges would have passed on the Senate floor with a majority of the vote (which all of GWB judges would)

Additionally Richard Paez received a "closure" vote! - He was not filibustered!! (because a majority of the Senate...REPUBLICANS included broke off any delay and demanded a "closure" vote for Mr. Paez!...which he received) - Yet these same Democrats now stand in the way of GWB nominee's from getting this same closure vote!

Furthermore GWB has the lowest % of nominated judges confirmed since WWII. He is at 53%!! Jimmy Carter was at 98%, Clinton was in the 80%'s.

There has never in our history been a Judaical nominee filibustered who would gather a majority of the votes on the FULL Senate floor. These are the facts....deal with them!

It is the Democrats (like always) that hate the truth and have to try and spin reality when it doesn't fit their needs.

Hey gutted catfish you wouldn't be laughed at if you knew what you were talking about, so I'll make a deal with you.

Go back to your handlers at DU and tell them that a Freeper has agreed to go over to the dark side and all you have to do is this.

Furnish me the name of one Clinton judicial nominee that was keep off the bench by a true filibuster on the floor of the Senate.

You see the majority party killing nominee's in committee isn't a filibuster by the minority party. The minority keeping the majority from preforming their Constitutional duties has never happened and you can't give me the name of one Clinton judge it happen to.

I agree with the writer, gutted catfish. And incidentally, I caught 8 nice channel cats yesterday in a period of 1 hour and 15 minutes. Magnum bite! Kept 5 of them. They were all about 3-4 pounds, perfect eating size! Now they are "gutted catfish."

Semantics........there has NEVER been a JUDICIAL nominee FILABUSTERED that had a MAJORITY of SENATORS in line to vote for him. It is a common practice for DIMs to tell half truths on an issue like this.

The examples given in this article are bogus, none of the nominees would have passed with an up or down vote because a MAJORITY of SENATORS would have voted AGAINST them.

BIG BIG difference!!!
