Mr. CORNYN. I ask unanimous consent that when the Senate completes its business today, it stand in adjournment until 11:30 a.m. on Monday, May 23. I further ask that following the prayer and pledge, the morning hour be deemed expired, the Journal of proceedings be approved to date, the time for the two leaders be reserved, and that the Senate then return to executive session and resume consideration of the nomination of Priscilla Owen to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, provided that the time from 12 noon until 1 p.m. be under the control of the majority leader or his designee and, at 1 p.m., the Democratic leader or his designee be recognized; provided that floor time then rotate between the two leaders or their designees every 60 minutes until 4 p.m., at which time the majority leader or his designee be recognized until 4:45 p.m., to be followed by the Democrat leader or his designee from 4:45 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.

Mr. CORNYN. Mr. President, on Monday, the Senate will resume consideration of the nomination of Priscilla Owen to serve as a circuit judge on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Monday will be the fourth consecutive day the Senate considers the Owen nomination.
Over the past 3 days, a number of Members, on both sides of the aisle, have come to the floor to speak on the nomination. We have conducted over 25 hours of debate, and we will continue on Monday. Moments ago, we filed a cloture motion on the nomination, and that will ripen on Tuesday of next week.
On behalf of the majority leader, I remind my colleagues the leader has announced our next rollcall vote will occur Monday afternoon at 5:30. That vote will be on a motion to instruct the Sergeant at Arms to request Senators' attendance. Senator Frist will have more to say about next week's session on Monday.

A "RINO" is a person that uses the Republican Party to gain elective office, than effectively abandons Party in a move to appeal to the MSM or Democrats.
It doesn't concern Liberalism. It doesn't concern conservatism. It does not even speak to leadership ability or courage. It concerns an unprincipled individual with no allegiance to the Party that brought them to the table.
Frist is not a RINO, no one could credibly make the case.

I'd love to see Frist wheel a hand-truck full of cheese into the Senate when Reid is talking - er, whining.
You're absolutely right, rwa265. This is more of the same garbage from petulant people who would rather complain than get results. Frist is doing exactly what needs to be done, but these posters can't see that attacking him weakens our resolve at the PRECISE moment that we need to be unified.
Why not use the energy spent on attacking Frist on herding RINOs like Graham (SC) who can really hurt us, instead of bashing the guys who are actually doing our bidding? I'll never understand that mindset.

One point on this. As I recall during the impeachment hearings Lindsay Graham was quite squishy early on while seated on the House Judiciary Committee. But he kept an open mind and ended up being one of the Impeached Rapist's most vocal critics.
You are SO right---any compromise that would have that language in it is definitely a Dem win--no exceptions allowed.
Okay, Peach, maybe we should mention Graham's fate if the votes against the Const. Option more often...

I agree (on the labels) but I don't think it is appropriate for anyone to be blasting Senator Frist. He deserves our support in this.

Most of the people in this country are simply interested in watching American Idol or sports programming.
Republicans must show they can fight the obstructionists Democrats and win. People respect strength and winners.
Keep calling . . . they are listening. Most of all . . . be respectful and tell them exactly what it is you expect from the Senator . . . nothing more.
If it doesn't have meaning, why do people cringe when labeled such? I assume you do not like Labels. I do. So long as they accurately define the person they are placed on.
It does have meaning, and it does serve a useful purpose so long as others do not water down its meaning.

I say he has been dragged to this because he would not have done it if he had not felt the pressure from conservative groups and constitutionalists. I'm sick of republicans trying to gain the high ground because they'll never get there. No matter how high they get or how many conciliation they attempt to make, they will still be blamed for the starving children and old ladies eating catfood. We gave him the power with more seats in November. Use it. Enough delays. Yes, we're finally here, but it's been a long wait.
