"This Senate agreement represents a complete bailout and betrayal by a cabal of Republicans and a great victory for united Democrats. Only three of President Bush’s nominees will be given the courtesy of an up-or-down vote, and it's business as usual for all the rest. The rules that blocked conservative nominees remain in effect, and nothing of significance has changed. Justice Clarence Thomas, Justice Antonin Scalia, and Chief Justice William Rehnquist would never have served on the U. S. Supreme Court if this agreement had been in place during their confirmations. The unconstitutional filibuster survives in the arsenal of Senate liberals.
"We are grateful to Majority Leader Frist for courageously fighting to defend the vital principle of basic fairness. That principle has now gone down to defeat. We share the disappointment, outrage and sense of abandonment felt by millions of conservative Americans who helped put Republicans in power last November. I am certain that these voters will remember both Democrats and Republicans who betrayed their trust."
And what of the "Majority Whip"? Is he using a wet noodle in his miserable attempt to keep the RINO's in line?
So much for Bush's leadership. What happened to "I'm going to use my political capital"? If he had pushed THIS issue first it would have been DONE. But he had to squander his capital on the pathetic social secutiry efforts, alien amnesty and the MBNA-payoff bankruptcy bill. None of that is even a fraction as critical as control of the courts. Bush dropped the ball. What will he and Frist do now? If he permits this compromise, Presidential power will have been set back 3 decades.

Pryor a conservative? Many folks in Alabama aren't so sure. Pryor zeolously campaigned for Governor Riley's one billion dollar tax increase (which nearly 70 percent of the voters rejected).

Republicans get "played" again.
First, one judge, a minority of one judge among hundreds of thousands, changes the meaning of marriage all by himself. We are helpless.
Second, the 'Rat minority in the senate hamstrings and defeats the Republican majority. We thought we had this wired because we were the majority party, yeah. The Republican senators were helpless and will remain so.
Third, the Dirty Seven Republicans, a minority in their party, torpedoed the party, their peers, the voters who elected them, and the Constitution. The Republican majority senators were helpless against the Dirty Seven and will remain in their thrall till the next election changes something.
So, our sportsmanlike "majority rules" credo in this country is down the drain. This is really what's eating us whether we know it or not. It's gut-wrenching.
"Minority rules" now supercedes the Constitution.
Let's all take a deep breath and hang together. It's not our party that needs us now, it's our country.

We are a separate and equal branch of government. That is our founding fathers¹ vision, and one we hold dear.
"I offered Senator Frist several options similar to this compromise, and while he was not able to agree, I am pleased that some responsible Republicans and my colleagues were able to put aside their differences and work from the center. I do not support several of the judges that have been agreed to because their views and records display judicial activism that jeopardize individual rights and freedoms. But other troublesome nominees have been turned down. And, most importantly, the U.S. Senate retains the checks and balances to ensure all voices are heard in our democracy and the Supreme Court make-up cannot be decided by a simple majority.
"I am grateful to my colleagues who brokered this deal. Now, we can move beyond this time-consuming process that has deteriorated the comity of this great institution. I am hopeful that we can quickly turn to work on the people¹s business. We need to ensure our troops have the resources they need to fight in Iraq and that Americans are free from terrorism. We need to protect retiree¹s pensions and long-term security. We need to expand health care opportunities for all families. We need to address rising gasoline prices and energy independence. And we need to restore fiscal responsibility and rebuild our economy so that it lifts all American workers. That is our reform agenda, the people¹s reform agenda.
"Together, we can get the job done."
