The Italian best-selling writer and journalist Oriana Fallaci was ordered to stand trial in Italy on charges she defamed Islam in her best selling book. This is my quick review of the first paragraph of the article.

Goes to prove that the EU no longer allows free speech. If this book defames Islam then the Qur'an defames Christians, Jews and any other religion in the world.

If you visit Europe you must watch what you say or you could find yourself in jail.

You will wait endlessly. The mantra of "we need to be more like Europe" will never stop being repeated.

Yeah. Probably shouldn't yell, "HEY, MOHAMMED! YOUR PIZZA SUCKS!" or anything.

Europe is on the edge, it's only when we look at the bigger picture; that we're facing a 14th century sharia culture engaged in a war against us and this is one battle in a much longer war.

I can't imagine a book that defames Islam more then the Koran it's self.

A couple of packs a day smoker. supposed to have lung cancer. Wrote a remarkable book about the dangers of Islam.

One of the bravest women I know.

What civilized country puts someone on trial for criticizing a religion?

Free speech for me, but not thee serf.

That is how Europe operated for centuries. Glad to see they are returning to their roots. Now they just need to bring back the knights and nobility and they can have another dark age.

There will be peace with Islam when the last Muslim is dead and the last Koran is set on a bookshelf to gather dust next to Mein Kampf.

Anyone who thinks otherwise is ignorant of Islam.

By the way, it is not a religion of peace, it is a religion of submission...which is what 'islam' means in Arabic.

She was graceful enough to allow "The Rage and the Pride" to be posted on the internet at the time she wrote it, and I downloaded a copy. It's magnificent.

I just did a google search and found a copy on-line here, unfortunately not in downloadable format, but readable:

http://italian.about.com/library/fallaci/blfallaci01.htm

Here's the opening:

"You ask me to speak, this time. You ask me to break at least this once the silence I’ve chosen, that I’ve imposed on myself these many years to avoid mingling with chattering insects. And I’m going to. Because I’ve heard that in Italy too there are some who rejoice just as the Palestinians of Gaza did the other night on TV. "Victory! Victory!" Men, women, children. Assuming you can call those who do such a thing man, woman, child. I’ve heard that some of the insects of means, politicians or so-called politicians, intellectuals or so-called intellectuals, not to mention others not worthy of the title of citizen, are behaving pretty much the same way. They say: "Good. It serves America right." And I am very very, very angry. Angry with an anger that is cold, lucid, rational. An anger that eliminates every detachment, every indulgence. An anger that compels me to respond and demands above all that I spit on them. I spit on them."

"In Europe we are seeing the birth of a movement that is looking to silence those who don't follow a single mindset, within which it is forbidden to speak ill of Islam, of homosexuals or of the children of homosexuals," Castelli was quoted as saying in an interview with Radio Padania.

I think it is still OK in euroland to speak ill of the Jews and Christians.

Mark my words, within the next few years there will be many politicians from various western European countries who will run on an anti-Islamic platform. With all the mass Muslim immigration to most of those countries it is inevitable. Whether the leftist governments of these countries, or even the EU itself, will succeed in squelching those standing up against the Muslim hordes is another question. Let's hope and pray that Europe will wake up and realize the deadly peril they are in as long as they allow themselves to be infiltrated by a hostile people of completely alien beliefs and allegiances, before it's too late.

Goes to prove that the EU no longer allows free speech.

And since we must follow evolving standards of international law we can assume that at least several on the Supreme Court will rule against free speech here too.
