A Bipartisan Call to Ban Touch-Screen Voting Machines (Semi-BARF alert, check out the signatories)
Internet (http://www.petitiononline.com/) ^ | Jonathan Ross.

Posted on 05/26/2005 11:05:31 AM PDT by Former Dodger

To: U.S. Congress

Knowing that the most sacred right in a democracy is the right to vote, and that,

All new technology involve some risks, and that our right to vote should never be subjected to risk, and that,

This particular method has the potential for ERROR or TAMPERING that can remain UNDETECTED since each vote LEAVES NO PHYSICAL RECORD such as a ballot paper, thus hand recounts are impossible,

We, the undersigned, declare that touch-screen voting machines should immediately be declared unconstitutional.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

The A Bipartisan Call to Ban Touch-Screen Voting Machines Petition to U.S. Congress was created by American Voters and written by Jonathan Ross. This petition is hosted here at www.PetitionOnline.com as a public service.

Never forget that a Democrat defines the legitmacy of an election by the outcome. Especially after last November, the last thing they want is a fair election. They're proving it in Washington state.

Has it been determined yet that Andy was actually a giant scam to get money out of the idiots at DU? I know Skinner (owner of DU) shut down all postings and comments regarding Andy because he suspected it was a scam.

Punchcards are simple and secure. Anyone who can't understand them shouldn't vote.

I am all for banning these damn machines. But only if the following is institutued.

1) One must prove they are a US citizen when registering to vote.

2) One must prove they are who they say they are when they vote.

3) Purple fingers to prevent repeat voting.

4) Harsh jail terms and fines for anyone convicted of any violation of election law. Be they voter or poll worker.

5) Conviction of violating election law causes a loss of ability to vote ever again.

6) All voting rolls are scrubbed every 10 years and people must re-register to vote, including providing documentation that one is a US Citizen.

It's not impossible to retrofit those machines with an internal printer if they want a 'paper trail'. I don't know if the manufacturer offers that as an option or as backup in case of equipment failure, and I don't recall the FEC requiring such in electronic voting machines. Since the petition doesn't supply any useful details and is impossibly vauge, it's impossible to take it seriously. If the petition author had included a manufacturer and model number instead of vauge allegations, they might have a case. As is, it just looks like more crybaby antics from a bunch of losers.

You're exactly right.

We're one of the most technology advanced country's in the world, and we can't create a machine that is fraud-proof?? The only reason this is still a problem in this country is because a certain party does not want fraud-proof machines.

The purpose, though, is to get rid of the paper trail. No paper trail, no opportunity for contradiction, no abiguity.

At that point, the only thing that can go wrong is someone might slash your tires the night before you are to drive to the polls.

Anything that is man made can be duplicated with exacting percision. To create a fraud proof voting machine, be it manual or electronic is next to, if not impossible.
