Mifflin status report (Charges may be filed this week)
Columbus Dispatch ^ | May 31, 2005

What’s happened since a girl reported being sexually assaulted by two boys at Mifflin High School in March:

The school : Walnut Ridge Principal Laura Commodore-Young has taken over at Mifflin as well, and she is aided by three assistant principals.

The former principal : Regina Crenshaw is fighting the decision to fire her. Her appeal begins Thursday.

The former assistant principals : Vincent Clarno, Suzie Retterer-Helfrich and Richard Watson each were suspended without pay for 10 days and since have been assigned to posts where they won’t have contact with students.

The suspects : Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said charges could be filed this week against students involved in the incident. An investigation into possible charges against school officials who failed to report the incident is ongoing. Privacy laws prohibit school officials from saying what happened to the boys, or an 18-year-old student who reportedly videotaped the sex act, but the district typically expels students in similar cases.

The girl : She did not return to Mifflin.

I hope Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien throws the book at these people.

I agree. If ever an example needed to be made, this is it.

Great, featherbed the system with more useless deadwood.

Why are there posts where so-called educators don't have contact with students?

Shouldn't be any.

Great, featherbed the system with highly-paid and useless deadwood.

Much of the billions we spend on education, nationally to locally, is wasted that way. The administrations of school districts are more about bureaucracy, corruption, and self preservation than education. It is a perfect union stronghold.
