It is no small consideration that the post-Nixon nation saw the horrific rise of liberalism---and the juggernaut to tolerate every idiocy the left wing could concoct.

That's what we get when we get suckered into supporting RINOs.

This country is full of corrupt greedy people who are cowards and who's sole intention is to cash in. It's also full of people who will pay for whatever these corrupt people are selling.

David Hirshey, senior vice president at HarperCollins.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp- dyn/content/article/2005/06/01/AR2005060101993_2.html

CUT
"Hirshey said he expected the Felt book to be sold for more than $1 million, and some agreed with him. Others in the publishing industry questioned that number, but acknowledged that it's hard to know, yet, what the book will be worth."

"It's all about source material," said David Black, of the David Black Literary Agency. "Did he keep a diary? Were there records? Did he keep audio conversations with Woodward? Hoover was a great record-keeper, right? Was this guy?"

Then there's the Woodward factor.

"Bob's book is sure to be coming out in a matter of weeks," said Peter Osnos, who has published previous books about Deep Throat and is currently the publisher of PublicAffairs (Osnos worked at The Washington Post at the time of Watergate). "In that case, Felt's story comes along later, and has all the earmarks of something that was a scramble."

Headline could read: Deep Throat Causes Woodward to Choke!

I wonder if Ronald Reagan would have pardoned Felt after his conviction if Reagan had known Felt was Deep Throat?
I don't think soooooo....

Maybe the header should read, " Phoney Felts Flip for Funny Money."

Felt was and is scum. I don't care if he is 91: he ought to be indicted right now, and do some time in jail. I know you've read things I've said, but I am going to reiterate yet again:

Some people don't understand why this is such a big deal to me and others with my understanding of this. If they don't, they need to put this all in historical perspective. This is not about Nixon - it is about our country.

Someone ought to clue the Old Mediot cheeerleaders and those who they have been indoctrinating these last thirty years, about the results of the GREATLY overblown Watergate affair:

-A presidency was brought down by indirect effects simply because the president was perhaps overly loyal to his people.
-The United States was weakened.
- Nixon's weakness led to the defeat of S.VietNam, and the death of the millions of SE.Asians.
-The worst and weakest president of the 20th century was installed - emboldening our enemies.
-The Shah of Iran was overthrown instead of the US being able to bolster up an emerging voice of moderation and modernity in the MidEast - and much of the world's terrorism was strengthened as a result
- and OPEC stretched its muscles - and the US was not strong enough to effectively respond (I categorically don't mean militarity).
-Reagan was the inevitable reaction to the worst president, but by that time irreversible damage had been done.
-The Old Media FRAUDcasters have since been trying to bring down presidents, and even found themselves forced, finally, into joining the New Media to some extent against Bill Clinton.
-Journalism's "highest calling" has become trying to bring shame on politicians - with the gold prizes for R-politicians - instead of reporting news that really affects the country and the world.

We're still in the process of attempting to recover from Watergate.

Before this witch hunt by the socialists designed to avenge themselves and gain monopoly power, the media was rather discrete in forgiving minor errors in foreign policy, domestic policy and personal behavior of politicians. Myriad examples abound for those who care to think about it.

It was recognized that the world is made of imperfect people, and imperfect circumstances, and that there are no perfect solutions. If a president could claim some an even mildly reasonable justification, they would not make a stink about it. Watergate (and the aftermath of McCarthy) changed that as far as Republicans were concerned. The 'Toon changed that as far as Democrats were concerned (but for myself, I was far more concerned with ChinaGate, LoralGate, his nuclear proliferation than Monica- and there, only about his purjery)

The only benefit I can see of Watergate is that Rockefeller Republicans were destroyed, and Reagan was elected after the disaster of Carter.

The only benefit I can see right now that can come of this revelation of Felt being the culprit is to belittle the "investigative" reporting business... including biased "historians" --- who were almost completely wrong about who DT was ... NIXON, though, had that right from the beginning.

Dead right. We've got to stop "worshipping at the altar of "gotcha" leftwing 'journalism'" --- Don't forget these are the same people who are "investigating" such things as the sex life of Jefferson and writing "history"

Here's some of what those "investigative journalists" (aka gossip columnists) have said over the years:

Look at some examples from Wikipedia (as of yesterday):

First cut:
Over the years, political observers have suggested many possible candidates as Deep Throat, including FBI director L. Patrick Gray, Nixon advisor Alexander Haig, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and even former U.N. ambassador (and later president) George Bush, Sr..

[I never suspected any of these, personally - but had no idea myself who else to suspect]

Second cut:
Leading candidates

Generally acknowledged to be the three leading candidates are W. Mark Felt, Fred Fielding, and William H. Rehnquist.
----->
Someone from Wikipedia gets partial credit!
also, check out this School of "Journalism" take:

"The 7 finalists are listed here: http://www.comm.uiuc.edu/spike/deepthroat/
Patrick Buchanan, speechwriter and special assistant to the president.
David Gergen, speechwriter, then served as press spokesman for President Reagan.
Jonathan Rose, Attorney for White House relations.
Raymond Price, head speechwriter.
Stephen Bull, a special administrative assistant to Nixon.
Fred Fielding, top assistant to John Dean.
Gerald L. Warren, deputy press secretary under Nixon."
----->

How about how well the Investigative Journalism classes at UofI can really get to the bottom of things...

From another of their web sites: http://deepthroatuncovered.com/
How students solved one of America's top mysteries

After a four-year investigation, students at the University of Illinois have determined the identity of Deep Throat, the most elusive, anonymous news source in history: Fred Fielding, deputy counsel to former President Richard Nixon

Updated 11/21/2003

Wrong yet again...
Amazing.
----->

More amazing is the supreme confidence these academics have in their results.

These are the type of people who are writing "history books" now - "investigating" such things as Jefferson's sex life, etc. ,as well as seeking out stories for Newsweak, CBS 60min, and the NYSlimes.

It is important for us to to recognize their enormous fallibility.

Many people have been slandered by these "investigative journalists" inspired by their @#$%^ "professors" over the years.

To me/ For ME - this is the real story of Watergate.

I loathe them all nowadays.

FRAUDcasters.

Apparently Woodward has a book coming out on all this. The whole thing $mells like a set-up for the whole Nixon-hating cabal.

Look at some examples from Wikipedia (as of yesterday):

Wikipedia is kind of a joke, isn't it? I had some dealings with them over an entry there, and I was contacted by a 19-year-old self proclaimed leftist student from Europe, who was the moderator. A pisher from Denmark. LOL.

Felt's crimes began when he ignored established procedures and made an end run around the Constitution for his own craven self-serving ends.

Personally I am glad this is happening.

The 2004 election provided a long overdue opportunity to get some facts out about the Viet Nam war era. (Though at least one Freeper opined that he'd be glad when all the old people were dead so we'd stop talking about it. I am sure some youngsters feeeeeeeeeel the same way about Watergate.)

Think about it. Nixon won the 1972 election with 49 states and 521 electoral votes to the Democrats' (McGovern) one state (plus D.C.) and 17 votes.

Why would the Nixon White House be the least bit interested in bugging the DNC geniuses four months before the election? The election was over by June, 1972.

Why was it that the desk of Democratic National Committee secretary Ida "Maxie" Wells was bugged and not the ex-Postmaster General's, whatz hiz name, desk?

Who was the Democrat's Dick Tuck and why did President Nixon say in 1972, we need one of them guys on our side? Ans: dirty tricks.

What was believed to be in Ms Wells' desk? Ans: contact info for the DNC's high-priced call girl service for well-heeled D.C. visitors.

Why did Nixon cover up? Ans: The above mentioned Dick Tuck was the Democrat Party's dirty trickster who was much admired by the MSM employees. His dirty tricks were rarely reported and never had legs -- the Democrats never had to cover up, the MSM did it for them. Nixon tried to cover up what was thought by the White House to be something that had no interest beyond D.C. -- but, nationwide the MSM went into a wild-eyed, foaming-at-the-mouth frenzy.

Watergate: it's about sex, stupid! Lying, interfering with justice it's all okay, remember?

Nixon knew that Felt was leaking information. In a taped conversation in the Oval Office on October 19, 1972 Bob Haldeman informs Nixon of the fact. Haldeman says, "You can't say anything about this because it will screw up our source and there's a real concern. Mitchell is the only one who knows about this and he feels strongly that we better not do anything because... If we move on him, he'll go out and unload everything. He knows everything that's to be known in the FBI. He has access to absolutely everything."

I agree with your comments below. The genie is out of the Watergate lantern. With the new media, we will learn more of the sorrid side of the left wing during this mess.

"The irony is however, that "Deep Throat" the mystery, the man in the garage, was for more appealing and "honorable" than the real man himself. People can project all kinds of things onto a shadow. In fact, it begins to look like the old hunched man at the door was more a disgruntled employee, than anything else."

"I don't think he'll withstand the scrutiny he will now have to endure, nor will Woodward and Bernstein seem so bright and shiny. It's long past time for people to stop worhiping at the altar of Watergate, and "gotcha" leftwing journalism. And the timing couldn't be better. The power of Watergate journalism us waning, as Dan Rather will tell you. :)

"Whatever short term monetary gains Felt gets, I think the longterm benefits to the rest of us outweigh that. I'm glad he came forward. The mask is off."

Strange, isn't it, this guy Felt had such power over the president. Wonder how he did it? (/sarcasm)

The FBI should look back over his phone records to see who was "handling" this guy.
