7-Year-Old Suspected In Beating Death Of Baby Sister
WNBC Television ^ | 6/2/2005 | Puppage

TAMPA, Fla. -- In an attack that's rattled even veteran detectives, police in Florida said a 7-year-old boy has confessed to beating his baby sister to death.

Investigators said the boy was jealous of the attention the infant was getting and upset by her crying. They said the boy beat the baby with his fists, feet and a two-by-four.

The attack occurred in Tampa, while the boy was visiting his father.

Police said the father and his girlfriend were outside with neighbors when the boy came out and told them the baby was "bleeding." They said the seven-month-old had a bloody nose, and wasn't breathing. The parents rushed the baby to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A spokesman said detectives noted they'd never seen someone so young "show so much violence and so little remorse."

From this news story we don't know any of the pertinants.

That's right. Some on this thread have called his mother a loser even though we haven't heard anything about her.

>>The reality is that these kinds of cases are actually quite rare in the grand scheme of things.<<

If they stay at the current levels is that acceptable to you or do you want to bring child homocides to a halt?

>> Also, what kind of changes do you have in mind?<<

If we have to lets start parenting classes on the subject of child protection, before the parent is permitted to remove the child from the hospital. (extreme) Let the parents know if it happens in your home, zip, you will be neutered.

Is it morbid fascination? Is it a concern over the downward spiral of our culture?

I think that's what it is, when we hear of things like this.

Is it that five years ago, FR was primarily a political site and now it is more than that? Is it a desire to post and these type of stories are "interesting". I am just trying to understand.

I think all of us are trying, and failing, to understand why this happens.

"Adults who fail to civilize their children."

Obviously, but how does the failure happen? My guess is one of two ways-- the child himself has been roughly disciplined without love, or the child has never been disciplined at all, which is also a failure to love. The bottom line here is that, one way or the other, it's a failure on the part of the parents to properly love this child. Love is wanting what is good for someone else, and it requires attention, thought and action.

Can you find me one case from 50 years ago where a child intentionally murdered an infant?

It's two fold (IMHO) neglegent/lax parenting and simply, mentally unstable people having children. Not all bad parents are 60's refugees either. Some of the worst parents I've known were salt-of the earth 'good' people...but not not folks who needed to be raising kids.

Its a combination of the kids raising themselves, being ignored, slapped/smacked/punched when someone does notice them, inconsistanties discipline (a beating one day, laughing it off the next) treated like 'adults'too soon, and being raised by people who themselves are incapable of bonding with/loving another person.

Twerked begats twerked.

Breakdown of the family plays a big role in these things.

Lack of stable husband-wife daddy-mommy role models hurts kids.

Substance abuse.

Tolerance of bad behavior, and a lack of discipline.

Child abuse.

There are no doubt other factors, but I wouldn't be surprised it those were the big four at the root of a lot of this.

Especially not having a father AND a mother in the same home who treat the child with love, care and concern.

Probably and guess are two different things

prob·a·bly adv.
Most likely; presumably.
adv 1: with considerable certainty; without much doubt

guess v. tr.
1. To predict (a result or an event) without sufficient information.
2. To assume, presume, or assert (a fact) without sufficient information.

I left my newborn alseep on couch one day and went to cook some food for my 3.5 year old and myself. While I was gone he picked her up and moved her onto the floor. He did so with no malice, just curiousity. He has looked after her ever since if she is in any type of danger and he is around. Excellant big brother.

Sometimes it's the NO LOVE and not the no discipline that triggers such violence in young children. There are children who are so neglected emotionally by their parents they cannot experience normal emotional behaviour. That does include not having a conscience when it comes to violence. Sadly, there isn't much hope for these children either.

I can perhaps assume that the baby was the child of the father and the girlfriend?

WRONG! Don't buy into that crap. As society loses its moral compass, this is what happens.

Let's back up for a second. I agree that when society loses its moral compass bad things happen. However, I would also argue that the fall of man did not occur in the last 30 years.

I do not believe that holding up every child abuse story will bring about the reinstatement of our moral compass. On the contrary, it allows the enemies of moral absolutes to label every parent as a suspect resulting in the continued destruction of parental rights. The destruction of the family will follow.

I don't see what fruit comes from posting these stories. All it does is stirs up strong emotions to no end and generates fear. Now, you might say that a poster doesn't have to have a reason to post other than the story is out there. Maybe. But I hope we are better than that.

"Love" isn't the magical cure all. Discipline, moral guidance, respect, learning to socialize, stable family life, all this plays a part.
A crack head can love, a whore can love, a murderer can love, a crook can love, but they aren't good role models.

To this kid, probably because his non- existant family life sucks, figured this baby was a source of all his woes. There is no doubt plenty of blame to toss at his morally bankrupt parents, and the kind of lifestyle they lead.

Why? The slide of or moral standing has been, without question, that fast.

Listen to television, the use of vulgarities that would not have been allowed even 5 years ago is commonplace now. Society, without question has seen this rapid decline over the last forty years. Gradual desensitization of our populace.

Forty years ago, child pornography would have gotten you shunned/incarcerated for the rest of your days, now it is protected under the First Amendment. Don't kid yourself, we are more violent, perverse, and irresponsible than at any time in our history and it can statistically be traced back to the sixties.
