D.C. Chapter v. Code Pink Doubleheader 5/27/05
Thursday, Jun2, 2005 | Kristinn

Posted on 06/02/2005 11:26:50 AM PDT by kristinn

Members of the D.C. Chapter of Free Republic played a twi-night doubleheader last Friday against anti-American leftists from Code Pink and DAWN on the Georgia Avenue corridor near the D.C.-Maryland line.

The first game was at 5 p.m. outside the Silver Spring, Md. Armed Forces recruitment center. Six FReepers took a stand to defend the honor of our military on Memorial Day weekend against fifty or so angry leftists. Montgomery County police were on hand in sufficient numbers to keep the peace, but just barely.

FReepers in attendance were BillF, BufordP, Doctor Raoul, tgslTakoma, kristinn and a lurker. Around 4:30, the first of us to arrive set up on a small corner at the north driveway entrance to the small strip shopping center where the recruitment center is located. We held some American flags and signs supporting our troops. The police checked in with us and then they went over to the leftists who were setting up directly in front of the recruitment center.

Apparently, the police told the leftists that they could not line up their phony flag draped coffins and photo display on the private property of the shopping center. The leftists moved to the south driveway entrance to the shopping center after much discussion with the officers.

The recruitment center closed early for the day in response to the anti-American demonstration. My guess is they're trying to avoid confrontations and the media splash the left wants from such actions.

While the FReepers stayed on our little corner doing our patriotic thing, the leftists kept trying to take over our spot. Code Pink's Gael Murphy came over to 'dialogue' with us. Others kept slinking over with their signs until the police told them to back off. It seemed that the horn honks in support of our troops were too much to bear for the leftists.

The leftists stood in the median, jaywalked all over and generally did what they wanted. The police took a hands off approach and only intervened a few times. I guess they didn't want to give the leftists a media splash either.

A local radio reporter interviewed both sides. Her report, which mentioned FR, aired throughout the night and next day on WMAL-AM 630.

Throughout the two hours we were there, the leftists just couldn't leave us alone, even though we left them alone. They marched up the sidewalk toward us, looping back to their spot in an elliptical path that drew ever closer to where we standing. If the police weren't there, they would have done what they usually do when the cops aren't around.

After that experience in democracy leftist-style, we headed a mile down Georgia Avenue to Walter Reed Army Medical Center for our weekly counter-demonstration against Code Pink's ghoulish 'antiwar' protest there.

The numbers on both sides were a bit more even. We totaled seven with the addition of Albion Wilde, while the leftists only had fifteen. We took our usual corners at the main entrance to the hospital.

The Code Pinkos had their usual array of signs and candles. We had the twenty by five foot God Bless Our Soldiers MOAB.

As is becoming more routine, recuperating soldiers walking out of the grounds come over to thank us for being there. Some of them still stop to talk to the leftists and if they cross the street to talk to us we educate them about Code Pink and their activities giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

We stayed until 10 p.m. when the leftists ended their morale-sapping effort.

We'll be at Walter Reed tomorrow night to carry on. Please join us if you can at the northeast corner of Georgia Avenue and Elder Street, NW, from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. The troops and their families need the support.

I've said before, and say again, you are a national treasure and we Americans as well as we Freepers are fortunate to have you on our side. Hope all is well for you and your family. (I've just had three nasty days in hospital, but all is well, now.)

I share BillyBob's appreciation for everything you and the FReeper crew do in the DC area.

I was unable to attend the first half of the doubleheader, until very late in the "game," and when I did arrive at the Recruiting Center demo, things were really hopping. So instead of taking photos, I went straight to working my bullhorn in tandem with Doctor Raoul and his Mother of all Bullhorns. Here's links to some of the the photos I took, mostly at the second half activities, at WRAMC:

5pm - Kristinn, BillF, BufordP and a young lady on her way to her prom, wave signs and flags supporting our troops, and those fallen in past conflicts.

Commie-free zone. For the time being.

There is peace on our little corner right now. Because the America-hating, terrorist-funding Marxists and fascists of Code Pink and DAWN haven't arrived yet to do their blood dance.

After our counter-demostration of Code Pink, Gael Murphy's thugs have followed orders. Why look! It wasn't enough for the maggots to try and take over the small corner of sidewalk we stood on, but they had to vandalize our vehicles, too. Apparently free speech and private property rights apply only to them.

There! That's better.

8pm - Now at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Code Pinkos begin their assault of lies.

Wolves in sheep's clothing. Remember that story from your childhood, cautioning you to beware of liars who are out to do you harm? Behold, the wolves!

Doctor Raoul drove down to stand with us.

MOAB deployment team (Kristinn, BufordP, Doctor Raoul)

Code Pink blood dancers, fifteen strong, at the gates of Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

So-called veterans for peace.

They learned to bring a flag to their protests. But nobody on their side ever wants to hold it. They act like it has coodies or something.

The MOAB and deployment team

MOAB

Doctor Raoul's signs, led to sour looks and words from the Pinkos across the street.

His signs are there, but where's Raoul?

Albion Wilde standing still (almost) so I can read her sign!

DC Chapter with light sabres in use.

Lefties veiled in lies, false professions of caring for our troops.

Seems he insists on going to his 70th college reunion.

Good for him; 1) for being here and able to go, 2) for raising his sons to care for and honor their families.

Tell your dad he did a good job, with all the Valentine boyz.

It was an honor and privilege to participate. When the soldiers came over to talk to us and exchange hugs, it was an incomparable moment.

There we stood, waving U.S. flags and many large signs supporting our troops, when the Code Pinkos yelled across the street at us, "Go back to Russia!" It was just another little demonstration of the Left's incorrigible need to shout an astonishing lie to try to offset their unconscious guilt for betraying our nation, including the soldiers who protect their often-abused right to protest.

Sadly for them, most of the horn-beeping, high-signing and waving was coming our way, or directed mistakenly at them from people who saw FR's large red, white and blue display and thought they were part of us.

This was the first time I had been to a demonstration in 30 years, and it was a great experience. I'd like to encourage any other FReepers in the area to come out in support of our wounded troops, their families and our country.

My photos and sound files from the double FReep of Friday, May 27.

CLICK ON ANY PHOTO TO OPEN A LARGER VERSION IN A NEW WINDOW. Click on another photo and its larger version should open in the same window that the first enlarged photo did.

Armed Forces Recruiting Center. Leftists talking to police officers after putting down
fake cardboard coffins (right) covered with American flags.

Most of the leftists were just a few car lengths down from us.

(L-R) kristinn and BufordP

kristinn, BufordP, and soon to be FReeper Joan

Leftists marched by us repeatedly. White t-shirt guy had just given us the finger, but
my camera would not click fast enough to get it. Luke, the guy with bike, attends
numerous of these leftist events.

Leftists at their primary location.

Code Pinko.

Code Pink co-founder and DC Leader Gael Murphy at left.
She and others went onto the island to hold their signs and
handout brochures to motorists.

Leftist holding phony coffin on island.

Other leftists were across a driveway from us so that we were
surrounded on three sides with leftists occasionally getting
within our group of six.

kristinn, Joan, and tgslTakoma

Doctor Raoul, BufordP, Joan, and tgslTakoma. Buford
had taken up tgsl's megaphone after her voice gave out.

kristinn (behind flag), Joan, BufordP, and Doctor Raoul.

Traffic noise was loud at this location. Most or all of the below sound files are of Doctor Raoul using the megaphone.  As usual, he worked the megaphone with the humor of a great stand-up comic. More than once I noticed the Montgomery County police officers laughing at what Raoul was saying.

A couple times the officers watching over us asked the leftists to go back to their group. When one leftist woman refused, the officer said something like, "Fine, but if there is any trouble, you are the person who I'm going to arrest."

CLICK TO HEAR SOUND FILE (OR RIGHT CLICK TO SAVE AND LISTEN LATER) (56 sec, 617 K): Leftists chant asking Bush how many kids have you killed today. Doctor Raoul tells them "if you're holding a sign that says you support the troops, put it down so you won't be a liar."

SOUND FILE (34 sec,  376 K): Leftists chant "Recruiters lie, soldiers die" followed by Doctor Raoul's great response.

SOUND FILE (5 sec, 55 K): Doctor Raoul "END THE OCCUPATION, COMMIES OUT OF DC."

Doctor Raoul on the megaphone, Joan, and BufordP

SOUND FILE (37 sec, 406 K): Doctor Raoul explains how Code Pink had their aid buy a machine gun to kill Iraqis as needed.

SOUND FILE (12 sec, 135 K): tgslTakoma: "CODE PINK FILLS THOSE COFFINS . . ."

Following relocation to the second FReep across from the Code Pinko blood dance outside Walter Reed Army Medical Center and a pizza tailgate party in order to eat before the second FReep (about a mile away from the Recruiting Center FReep), I took the photo at the right and the below photos.

kristinn, BufordP, Doctor Raoul, and tgslTakoma

Thanks y'all for being there, to fight the Commies, their lies and to support our troops. Give one of those wounded soldiers, coming or going to WRAMC, a big hug from me. I miss 'em, so much.

It was great to see you at the FReep.

Would you like me to add your screen name to the DC Chapter ping list? That way, you would be pinged to any threads dealing with DC Chapter activities or concerns. Even if you can't go to a particular event, being on the list gives you the info about matters of concern to the Chapter.

It would be an honor to have you join us someday. Right now and for the foreseeable future, we are continuing the Friday night FReeps of Code Pinkos at Walter Reed.

May I add your screen name to the DC Chapter ping list? That way, you would be pinged to any threads dealing with DC Chapter activities or concerns. Even if you can't go to a particular event, being on the list gives you info about the Chapter.

I assuming from your earlier post that you live in the DC area, although there is no requirement to be in the area. Many on the list are from far away, but enjoy being on the list to read of our activities.
