Military releases Koran-abuse findings
WASHINGTON TIMES.COM ^ | JUNE 4, 2005 | Guy Taylor

An interrogator accidentally stepped on a prisoner's Koran, copies of Islam's holy text got wet when guards tossed water balloons into a cellblock and one was "splashed" by urine, according to the final results of a Pentagon probe. But the investigation sparked by accusations in the press about desecration of the Koran here found "no credible evidence" that prison guards or interrogators "ever flushed a Koran down a toilet," the U.S. Southern Command, which oversees the prison for terrorism suspects, said yesterday.

The findings show that al Qaeda and Taliban detainees at the detention center themselves mishandled Korans on 15 occasions, three times more than the military prison's guards and interrogators. "These included using a Koran as a pillow, ripping pages out of the Koran, attempting to flush a Koran down the toilet, and urinating on the Koran." The probe found five confirmed incidents of military guards and interrogators "mishandling" the Koran, a fact cited by military officials before but never described in detail. The incidents were:......

An interrogator accidentally stepped on a prisoner's Koran

What was it doing on the floor in the first place, if it is so "holy."

You won't hear many in the media stating that fact

They are too busy saying that a guard peed on the Koran .. which isn't accurate

Spending time and money investigating whether something untoward may have happened to an assemblage of paper, ink and glue makes us just as nuts as the fanatics trying to kill us.

And who really gives a hoot about the koran anyway?

This koran business is ridiculous. I'd kick the damn thing myself if I had the chance... Get over it!

This ought to cause a new round of wingnut jihadi autogenocide in Pakistan.

I looked at the Koran crosseyed last week, maybe that's good for 5 or even 10 jihadi self-mutilations.

Y'know, at this point I really don't care. How about Christian preachers arrested in Saudi Arabia? How about Bibles confiscated? How about the the condition in which the Palis left the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem after occupying it for a prolonged period? Time to stand up for our interests instead of caving to the interests of those who are determined to destroy us.

By the way, when this was reported on ABC Radio tonight, the anchor actually said the investigation had been conducted into whether "the holy Koran" had been misused.

When all is said and done, it will turn out that the only Americans who will even pretend to care about how some terrorist's Koran is handled are the same liberal Democrat types who infest the media.

Wow, the anti-society koran has been abused. My goodness.

That's how they treat us. Now we're supposed to uphold their *book*?

I assume we lost some war. 9/11 must've been a great defeat for us. Not only can they kill ours whenever, and eventually it'll be wmd's, we must treat their idealogical book with way more respect than my link above suggests.

That allahu akbar isn't 1 video, it's endless. They usually saw the heads off, while they still gasp for air after the main pipes or cut, or shoot them.

She'll shoot a person with that gun but won't let the blood get on the book.

Ah, morality!

I keyworded this "honorkillings" for perspective on how seriously we should take these charges. Perhaps we can have these incidents declared "art" and given NEA funding?

Ya know ... though I don't condone abuse of prisoners

I am just amazed at the reaction from the media about this all

These people are terrorists .. they are in Gitmo because they did or tried to kill Americans and their own fellow Muslims

And yet they only thing the media cares about is the Koran

Words just fail me

Sometimes I feel I have to pinch myself to make sure I'm not just dreaming up this strange new world we live in. It often seems so bass-ackwards, like Alice in the looking glass.

Our troops at gitmo are guarding perhaps the most barbaric and dangerous prisoners on the planet. Many of them are trained killers who would tear your throat out if given the opportunity. And the liberal media practically hemorrhage over the alleged 'mistreatment' of their 'holy' koran as if it's the greatest affront to human dignity ever perpetrated by man. Well I guess it's time to face the fact, the media are doing their best to incite all muslims to anger in the hope of uniting and strengthening them against the U.S. This is sedition, and nothing but sedition.

Exactly.  It's a book, a freakin' BOOK.

Why is the military even answering for this?  We are at war with these people and we are bowing down in shame to them?  These 'insurgents' are blowing up their own people and no one seems to care, but kick a bunch of paper and it's headline news?  It's totally insane!

How are we going to win this war or stop another 9-11 if we are too busy being PC and sensitive?  What happened to the anger after Sept 11?

What is wrong with this country?

Personally I do not know anyone who gives a damn if they used the pages to wipe a goats butt. The way that the Islamic world treats Christians is what is criminal. The way a book in a terrorists cell is treated is not even worth mentioning.
