"Rob Andrews

Please God, no! Same with Bill Pascrell."

Those two, along with Bob Menendez, are the likeliest replacements for Corzine in the Senate if he wins the governorship and appoints his successor, and they won't be as easy to beat in November of 2006 as a wounded Corzine would be. That's why we must hold our noses and support Doug Forrester.

Alright folks:

Those of you who have been reading my posts as of late (particularly in the NJ community board) know that I was an avid Schundler supporter, and that I was totally against Forrester. I thought everyone who voted for Lonegan committed a serious act of buffoonery, and I still do.

But that being said, Corzine is a total clown. He must be taken down. I'll volunteer for his campaign and vote for him in November, even though I totally disagreed with his dirty primary campaign, and some of his policy initiatives. Hopefully, he can be equally as aggressive towards Corzine as he was towards Schundler.

Every single one of us should go out there and get this guy votes. The NJ Democrat Party is a cesspool, and it's the reason why this state is a cesspool. We must beat Corzine, and that battle starts today. It's going to be a tough battle, too; check out Corzine's campaign site, this guy has a much more organized and detailed campaign site than Forrester does. We need to step it up.

What a suprise. NJ elects another RINO who'll eventually lose to the Dem.

Amen.

And to those who still believe that "Forrester and Corzine are the same, and they can't screw the state up any more than it already is," ask yourself the following question: Do you want a conservative to be elected Senator from New Jersey in 2006? If so, the first step to achieve that is to defeat Corzine this November. If Corzine wins, he will appoint as Senator someone who is not quite as liberal as he is (since there *isn't* anyone else as liberal as Corzine in NJ), perhaps Rob Andrews or Bill Pascrell or Bob Menendez. His apointee would have a running start on the 2006 election, and whichever Republican gets nominated for the Senate would face a much more difficult task than against the ultraliberal Corzine, especially than he would against a wounded Corzine who had just been defeated for Governor. Moreover, if Corzine beats Forrester, rest assured that the media will claim that he won because Forrester "wasn't liberal enough" and pretty soon it will become conventional wisdom that only a "Republican" as liberal as Tom Kean, Jr. can be elected statewide in New Jersey. Thus, if someone like Congressman LoBiondo or Steve Forbes or maybe Lonegan or Schundler are to be elected to the U.S. Senate from NJ, we need to take those first "baby steps" and elect Forrester as Governor. I agree wholeheartdely that we have been given a raw deal here, and that Bret Schundler would have been a far superior standardbearer for the GOP in the gubernatorial election, but giving up now is not a good option.

Yea, now it looks like conservative campaign donations would be better spent in WV than NJ. Robert Carlyle Byrd is probably not as entrenched any more as is Jon Corzine.

Forrester is Christie Whitman II.

Schundler would have won had the others, who had no chance in hell of winning, stayed out of the election.

Doug is going to have to EARN my vote and support.

Let's just hope he gets a strong campaign and platform together and attacks Corzine as much as he did to Schundler.

A pox on them all. Wish we had a two-way-run-off election in this state. But I guess that is reaching for the moon.

At least no Conservative has won the Governorship since Democrat Charles Edison in 1940 and a Senate seat since 1952 with Republican H. Alexander Smith (not counting the brief tenure of Nicholas Brady in 1982, since he was appointed and only amassed a moderate record).

Runoffs are held only in the South, including OK but not KY, FL, TN, and VA. Runoffs were borne out of the former all-Democrat domination of the South. TX, for instance, had no real Republican primary until the 1962 gubernatorial race.

The message must be sent to the RINO's in New Jersey, change your ways or lose my vote. I will no longer support wolves in sheep's clothing.

Yep, my thoughts exactly.

Unfortunately, the "Only Moderates can win in NJ" message was sent loud & clear yesterday

I don't think so. Everybody could see that Forrester won only because the conservative vote was split.

Forrester will lose big time, because this time the Republican base won't turn out the way we did --albeit in barely sufficient numbers-- to get Whitman elected.

The base was burned by Whitman and we're not falling for her RINO ilk again.

Sometimes I think the splitting of the GOP conservative vote in primaries is a deliberate thing. Many liberal GOP congressmen have been nominated in CA, OH, NY, NJ, and other such states precisely because the conservative vote was split in the primaries, and there are no runoffs outside the South so that conservatives could consolidate in a second race.

Are you suggesting that some 'conservative' candidates are secretly in league with the liberal RINOs, to ensure the primary victories of those RINOs?

Kentucky does have a runoff provision for governor if a candidate in a primary does not reach 40% of the vote.

NC has (or had) that 40 percent provision. I had no idea KY did. I have never heard of KY having a gubernatorial runoff. When was the last one held?

Could be, don't you think, when a person who knows he will be a 5-6 percenter gets into a race to stop the conservative otherwise "frontrunner" he could be motivated by ideology or personal ambition or by vengeance.

I swear I don't understand NJ voters. They must suffer from amnesia or something. You'd think the experience with Florio would grant a lifelong lesson, but I guess not. If I get up on my roof I can see your side of the river and it may as well be an international boundary for all the similarity.

You guys seriously need to come west across the Delaware. We almost took PA last year and it's time Fast Eddie got sent packing.

You're right: I checked the KY law, but I cannot recall a KY runoff primary in recent years being held by either party.

Below is a reply I sent to an e-mail I received from Doug Forrester's campaign asking for money and support:

Please note that I voted for Bret Schundler on Tuesday and will be voting for John Corzine in November. The regular republican party in New Jersey must be taught a strong lesson, change your ways or lose my vote. I will not vote for you just because you have an "R" next to your name. I would rather have a democrat in office who the republicans will fight than a Republican in name only who is not in any way, shape or form conservative and will not be opposed by the republcan party. The only difference between you and Corzine is a "D" next to his name as opposed to your "R". I will no longer support wolves in sheep's clothing. I am 28 years old and know many people, young and old, who feel as I do.
