I'm skeptical, as Hart-Yang is a partisan poll. But Lugar hasn't had a viable opponent since 1982, and a whole generation of Hoosiers has grown up since then.

It's time for Lugar to retire. We've got a plethora of GOP Congressmen waiting to ascend the ladder in Indiana.

This is so typical of today's Indiana Dems. They're trotting out political has-beens. What happened to that "deep bench" that Evan Bayh (supposedly) helped create when he was governor?

Not gonna happen. He's not crazy enough to run. Lugar is too senior and too well respected.

Before someone goes and points out that Byrd is also very senior and vulnerable, Byrd is a dark blue pol from a deep red state. Lugar is a red poll from a deep red state.

Roemer may run at some point. For Governor in '08, perhaps, or Senate in the unfortunate event that Bahy is elected President or VP. But he won't run against Lugar.
