Embattled Colorado Professor Files Complaint Against Texas Detractor
The Associated Press
Published: Jun 9, 2005 BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - University of Colorado professor Ward Churchill, whose essay comparing some Sept. 11 victims to Nazis led to an investigation into his scholarship and ethnicity, has filed a complaint against one of his accusers.

Churchill's complaint to Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, accuses assistant sociology professor Thomas Brown of academic misconduct. Brown has alleged Churchill fabricated crucial details in his argument that the Army committed genocide against Indians in the 1800s.

In an e-mail to The Denver Post Wednesday, Brown said Churchill was attempting to block him from submitting a more detailed analysis of Churchill's work.

Churchill ignited a controversy when he compared some victims in the World Trade Center to Adolf Eichmann, who orchestrated the Holocaust. University officials concluded he could not be fired for the comments, but they launched an investigation into allegations that he plagiarized or fabricated research and lied about being an American Indian.

Churchill, a tenured professor of ethnic studies, has denied the charges. A CU faculty committee is reviewing the charges and could recommend that he be fired.

His attorney, David Lane, confirmed that Churchill filed a complaint against Brown but denied it was an attempt to silence him.

A Lamar University spokesman said administrators were reviewing Churchill's complaint to decide whether it warrants an investigation. They have not released a copy of the complaint.

I've been watching how the tribe he supposedly was a member of dealt with him, and it was by a flat denunciation and specific announcement that he was not, and never had been, a member of the tribe. He was on a special list, a sort of "Honorary Member", which is like winning "Mayor for the Day" in some town pie-baking contest (as in "Not Mayor").

A bum has no shame, these actions don't surprise me.

Not surprising at all. We learned during the Clinton regime that one thing leftists do when attacked is attack in return, accuse the accuser, attack the attacker. They never, ever lie down, they never, ever admit they are wrong, they never, ever grant any quarter to those who disagree with them. They circle the wagons and defend themselves and their fellow travelers until they either win, or go down fighting to the bitter end.

And this from people who are wrong on substance and stance on important issues. Conservatives need to learn something about tactics from these scumbags. We roll over too often and play "the gentleman" and "the good loser", even though we're right. I'm man enough to admit when I am wrong on facts or logic, but when it comes to fighting for principles and ideals I think we need to be as tough and persistent as those who oppose us, or more so.

Academic conduct is examining and questioning the findings and assertions of another academic? Silly me, I thought that was the whole idea - a search for the truth. But in the contemporary environment the idea is for the 'Liberal' to be able to make any unfounded assertions, any questionable allegations, and whoever disagrees with him/her should just shut up. So much for freedom of speech. I had these guys pegged when I was in college, but didn't understand the extent or the ramifications then.

Boy, you said it! Just watching these idiots explain things away is pure torture. They are counting on the problem going away from sheer exhaustion.

Some of your area Freepers might want to pass along some kudos to Thomas Brown at Lamar for his efforts at exposing the Colorado poseur. Now if they would just do something about a football team. Which reminds me, the stadium only seats roughly 12,000(?). When I used to follow PNG High School football, they would occasionally have a playoff game at Cardinal Stadium. PNG fans would fill up all of their side and about half the other side. A sea of purple! But I digress ;^)

Apparently Brown has made some waves. A GOOGLE SEARCH turns up lots o' hits.

Anywho, any bets the guy at Lamar is a Freeper? If not, he needs to be recruited. Go get 'im!

Worth a Texas ping Meek???

the more i think about it, the less i like the ap headline:

Indeed the headline could use some work. Can't fault the AP's efforts to put some lipstick on it though ;^)

Typical

How about:

"The tenured professor "industry" is such a scam if guys like Churchill can not be fired."

One thing liberals are good at is living off the system they are trying to destroy. They know how to get all the government grants and bennys, where the freebies are hidden, etc. We accuse them of pandering to the minorities, and they do for votes, but much of what they sneak under the tent is for themselves.

***EXACTAMENTE!
