~ MILITARY SHORT SPEAK ~
ArmyPatch small   NavySeal small   Air Force Seal   Marines Seal small   Coast Guard Seal small (better)

The military seems to have a language of its own, with many terms, Acronyms, initialisms and abbreviations that aren't generally used in the "civilian world."

What is an acronym? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words. It is spoken as one word.

What is an initialism? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words, but each letter is spoken separately.

What is an abbreviation? It is a shortened version of a word.

What is Short Speak? It is any and all of the above.

Want to know what  they are talking about?  Read on...

Today's Field Trip: NAS Pax River

Click to read about NAS Pax River.

If you have a suggestion for a Field Trip - maybe a place where YOU have been stationed and would like to re-visit - PLEASE Freepmail it to starcmc!!  Thanks!

Please remember:

The Canteen exists to support our military heroes serving all over the world and their families.  There are lots of places around Free Republic to talk about politics and debate your views.  Please try to keep it out of the Canteen.  We want to keep the Canteen a place where the guys and gals who are serving can sit down, kick their shoes off and relax and not have to keep their guard up.
Thanks for your help!
Now go out there and have FUN!!!!
*HUGS!*

Well.. tomorrow's Monday but next month is the mainland for a little R&R. Am looking forward to it! Wide sandy beaches, waves lapping the shore, freshly caught fish...Got to do something about the squirrels though. I thought they hibernated in summer....

Seeing how you both love aviation museums, you need to visit me in Odessa. We have between here and Midland the Commemorative Air Force (used to be Confederate Air Force) Museum with lots of old planes and they have the greatest Air Show in October, complete with re-enactments of famous air battles from WWII! Y'all come!

I had a '96 Impala. I got it to 130 one time and chickened out at that point. It was in a 55 mph zone, so yeah, it would've probably been jail time for me too. You just gotta do that ONCE in your life!

I hate to hear when any of our troops die in battle. I understand and support the Mission in Afghanistan and Iraq, and know it's going to be a long haul before it's ever over.   That's why our troops are the greatest and need to hear from us.
