~ MILITARY SHORT SPEAK ~ |
|
The military seems to have a language of its own, with many terms, Acronyms, initialisms and abbreviations that aren't generally used in the "civilian world." What is an acronym? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words. It is spoken as one word. What is an initialism? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words, but each letter is spoken separately. What is an abbreviation? It is a shortened version of a word. What is Short Speak? It is any and all of the above. Want to know what they are talking about? Read on... |

Please remember: The Canteen exists to support our military heroes serving all over the world and their families. There are lots of places around Free Republic to talk about politics and debate your views. Please try to keep it out of the Canteen. We want to keep the Canteen a place where the guys and gals who are serving can sit down, kick their shoes off and relax and not have to keep their guard up. Thanks for your help! Now go out there and have FUN!!!! *HUGS!* Quote of the day: When in doubt, empty your magazine.

Spiritual Deafness
The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him. 1 Corinthians 2:14
|
Some people suffer from a strange hearing disorderthey can hear sounds but can't understand words. They have no trouble hearing a bird sing or a watch tick, but words are as unintelligible as if they were a foreign language. The source of the problem is not in the ears. It stems from an injury to the brain. There is also a spiritual deafness that affects many people. Because of a sinful heart, those without faith in Christ can read the Bible and hear the teachings of God's Word, but its spiritual message is foolishness to them (1 Corinthians 2:14). That explains why some people can appreciate the Bible as literature, as reliable history, and as a source of high moral standards, but they fail to understand its spiritual message. They don't grasp the significance of what it says about ChristHis death on the cross for our sins, His resurrection, and His ministry of intercession for us in heaven today. These truths make no sense to them. As you read the Bible, do you "hear" what it says? If not, ask the Lord to open your understanding to what it says about Jesus. Put your trust in Him as your personal Savior and experience a spiritual birth. That's the cure for spiritual deafness. Richard De Haan
We cannot understand God's truth Until we know the Lord; It's when our heart is home to Him We understand His Word. Anon.
The key to understanding the written Word is knowing the Living Word.

Psalm 91
We live within the shadow of the Almighty, sheltered by the God who is above all gods.
This I declare, that he alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I am trusting him. For he rescues you from every trap and protects you from the fatal plague. He will shield you with his wings! They will shelter you. His faithful promises are your armor. Now you don't need to be afraid of the dark any more, nor fear the dangers of the day; nor dread the plagues of darkness, nor disasters in the morning.
Though a thousand fall at my side, though ten thousand are dying around me, the evil will not touch me. I will see how the wicked are punished, but I will not share it. For Jehovah is my refuge! I choose the God above all gods to shelter me. How then can evil overtake me or any plague come near? For he orders his angels to protect you wherever you go. They will steady you with their hands to keep you from stumbling against the rocks on the trail. You can safely meet a lion or step on poisonous snakes, yes, even trample them beneath your feet!
For the Lord says, "Because he loves me, I will rescue him; I will make him great because he trusts in my name. When he calls on me, I will answer; I will be with him in trouble and rescue him and honor him. I will satisfy him with a full life and give him my salvation."

PRAYER OF GRATITUDEThe Greatest Love
The greatest love I was ever shown, Was given me by those unknown.
Whose love for all of those like me, Was given without vanity, Was given freely without remorse, Free-flying into the battle course.
With courage fighting our enemy, So our land would always home the free.
So my own children can live and grow, My children that they did not know. Those brave warriors, whose lives were lost. All paying the terrible, ultimate cost.
The greatest heroes, woman and man, Who gave their lives in a foreign land, Whose last sight was the desert sand, All led to glory by God's tender hand.
Never again to see This sweet land, that they so loved, That they made their stand. Never again, to take a breath free, Or to feel the touch of family, They gave up their lives so That it remained free, for they so loved This great country.
With pride we stand And voice what we want, While overlooking soldier souls haunt, Smiling while children laugh and play, In freedom growing day by day.
All because of those unknown, Who's greatest wish Was to just come home.
I pray that maybe, When they take their last breath, That they closed their eyes, And just before death, Took the vision to glory, Of America green, And smiled when thinking Of those unseen.
The greatest love I was ever shown, Was given me by those unknown.
THANK YOU!

Q short speak? Don't forget the Q Model, the version of my beloved KC-135 Stratotanker that was developed for refuelling the SR-71 Blackbird reconnaissance jet.
Oh, and I couldn't resist posting this more recent photo of the lovely ol' Stratotanker...
