I hope the Senate fights this tooth and nail, giving the government unlimited powers of search and snooping is bad medicine and with the wrong leader in charge can be used against anyone for any reason.

"If you are not doing anything wrong, then you have nothing to worry about."

just damb.

You ever hear Thomas Jefferson’s quote. Something like, Government is like fire if it is well kept it will keep you warm, when it gets out of control it will burn you.

Based on the votes so far, I think if my life depending on it, I would depend most on '98 and '99 FREEPERS. Most of the rest you scare the hell out of me.

That being said, repeal that travesty immediately!

Our Founding Dads main genius was assuming that a cur would work his way into high office, and to lay the pattern for a government that would make it virtually impossible for that cur to wield any effective power over his fellow man.

Imagine how much more effective a Hillary administration could be with this one little law in place...

Imagine how much more effective the Patriot Act will be during Ms Rodham's administration.

I still say that totalitarianism is right around the corner. The government has promised more than it can deliver on.

What we need to stop terrorism is not more laws against American citizens. We need to allow our military to do what it is capable of. Then we have our freedoms and our enemy are dead.

Unleash every military person and CIA and anybody the hell the government wants on foreigners to get terrorists. Just leave the Americans alone. All I ask is that my own government have even just probable cause as the Constitution requires, then arrest any American SOB they want. How simple is that.

A perfect recipe for tyranny. If FR is a good sampling of freedom loving people in the US, then our liberties are truly in jeopardy.

Amen brother.

If you are not doing anything wrong, then you have nothing to worry about.

That's what I thought...until I had my driver's license suspended because a doctor felt offended when I didn't accept his diagnosis which he made in all of 15 minutes without one test.

It took six months, a whole batch of other tests to prove stupid wrong, and a whole lot of bureaucratic crap to get it reinstated. And, no, the State Board of Medicine didn't do a bloody thing to protect the patient's rights.

People convicted of drunk driving got their license back faster than I did.

Not only do I think the Patriot Act should be dumped, I think even the name "Patriot Act" sounds like something the Communist Soviet propoganda machine thought up.

I don't see where we're giving up any rights with the P.A. to begin with, unless it were abused, which would be the same with any law/act.

You don't "see"...?

Are you freaking blind, or what?

I posted the definition of habeus corpus. Under that rule, a court cannot hold a person without defining his crimes, and charging him. That RIGHT has been suspended.

I posted the fourth amendment. Under that RIGHT, a warrant must be issued to investigate an ALLEGED crime (you know that old "not guilty until proven" thing), IF THERE IS REASONABLE SUSPICION, and only then will a warrant be issued.

I posted the fifth amendment. Under that right, a person has the right not to incriminate himself. Click it or ticket is not part of the alleged WOT, but is just another straw, weighing on the back of liberty. The statement "if you have nothing to hide" holds no water, when every LEO is willing to trick you and cajole you into making an error, even when you have done nothing. LE, today, is about tax collection, and who's got the best doughtnuts. Look at most of the LEO's now. They come in two sizes and shapes (other than those few foolish little girls that want to play with the big boys, in the name of "PC". One size, and shape, is fat, and barely able to guard a court bathroom. The other size and shape always wants to wear black, and tuck their BDU's into their Jack Boots... and drive down the highway, in the left lane, speeding, to lunch with the fellow boys in blue/black/ninja suits.

I posted the sixth amendment. under that RIGHT, a person is guaranteed a speedy trial. Tell that to the people sitting without warrants, in cells, without lawyers, without charges, without communication.

Oh, that's right, we don't know if there are any. But, the PA allows for it... and I would make you a friendly wager... Ever heard about Siberia?

I would personally take out an "enemy combatant" with any means available. I do not think they have any rights. They are soldiers without a uniform.

But, as soon as my government takes control of anyone, they should be obligated to follow their own mandates.

Instead, they flush them... for freedom?

Yeah, I feel the freedom...

Your papers, please...

I suppose your family memebers slept through the Cold War. I don't mean that as an attack on you or your family, I just wish people realized that we battle daily to maintain our freedom. In many cases it has been a losing proposition as most people are willing to roll over and give their freedom up. A lot of examples could be pointed out, but to keep the subject of the thread, the Patriot Act is the only example necessary.

Your papers, please. And what are you doing carring around $900 cash? We are confiscating this because known drug dealers use this road and drive cars similar to yours.

I agree...keep what we have now 'permanent'...but I think it's gone far enough.

"I challenged the stop, as soon as the cop came alongside my car. After a little debate, the officer asked me if I was carrying (insert long list here) anything illegal. I asked him for a reason why he asked the question, and he started getting belligerent with me... I did not back up from him, but pressed for him to acknowledge he was fishing..."

Details please!

"If someday the court rules those subpoenas as unconstitutional too, then I will change my opinion to match yours."

Do you agree with every decision the SC hands down? Do you agree that abortion is a constitutional right and that we should limit political speech?

Laz, check the updated los alamos beating thread. The claim of being beaten because he's a whistle blower is being challenged by a local news station that did some investigating and found that the beating was for a different reason.
