A new Gallup Poll finds most Americans favoring a partial or complete withdrawal of U.S. troops in Iraq, and for the first time, a majority say they would be upset with the president if he decided to send more troops. This comes at a time when basic support for the war is as low as it has been since the war began. The poll probed Americans' reasons for believing the war was or was not worth fighting. Those who favor the war generally cite the Bush administration's various stated motivations for going to war, such as freeing the Iraqi people from an oppressive regime. Those who oppose the war believe there was insufficient justification for going to war, or say the costs have been too high given the lack of progress.
The June 6-8 poll finds 56% of Americans saying it was not worth going to war in Iraq, while 42% say it was worth it. These results are essentially the same as in a late April/early May poll (41% worth it, 57% not worth it), which represent the lowest levels of war support since fighting began in March 2003. Since last October, at least half of Americans have consistently said the war was not worth it.

I'd like to see exactly how they phrased the question. Is there anyone who DOESN'T want our troops to come home, safely and soon?
With this bunch whining about Gitmo, the hell with it, bring the troops back home. Why bust your butt for them, they aren't worth it.

The questions are on the website. Alas we can't post the whole thing on Free Republic which makes it difficult to see everything. Check out the website and you will see all the questions, I believe there are 15 of them.
Think of the money we can save now that we don't need West Point, Annapolis, and the others. Heck, we can eliminate ROTC too. Years of study of history and military tactics are just wasted time now.
Now that we run wars by polls, do we even need generals?
Perhaps we should poll the terrorists we are fighting as well- shall we reduce troop strength, or continue to erode your feeble grip on the area?

If 6 out of 10 Americans hanging out at the mall on any given weekend, were asked if they believed in UFSs, I'll be willing to bet quite a bit of money, would answer yes!
The questions asked to dupes who answer the phone(depending on how the question is phrased) will probably agree that George Bush committed fraud in Ohio and Kerry was really elected, as was Al Gore.
As I thought, no mention of what time frame these troops should be withdrawn in.
Can we use MY question next time:
"Do you think US troops should be withdrawn from Iraq before their mission is complete?"
Which of course brings up the next question, how do we define "mission complete?"
Reductions?? And the media has been trying to convince us for more than 2 years that we have too FEW troops in Iraq...

Yes or no, Do you support reducing US troops in Iraq if it would cause the terrorist to win?
I suspect a much smaller number would say yes.
I agree with your poll question, and for this definition...Perhaps something along the lines of..
We have a reasonable level of confidence that our withdrawal will not result in chaos or the return to power of Saddam coupled with a nation that will not be a training ground for terrorists nor one harboring designs on conquering it's neighbors.
America shows its rank stupidity once again. But then again, I know what slop media polls are. They're quick, dirty and don't balance for party I.D.
So what? I support troop reductions in Iraq, as soon as they're feasible.
Polls by democrats aren't worth the paper they are printed on.
The polls always reflect the democrat's position, which tells you they are obviously biased.
MSM as always, continues on it's mission to choose the government of the nation by directing public opinion.
Phrasing is all.
I remember early polls in the WOT showed that Americans didn't want to launch military campaigns against Afghanistan etc.
Turns out that what the respondents meant was why do we have to do it all - where's the help from the rest of Western Civilization? Of course the msm made sure that reason for resistance to military action wasn't included in stories about that "poll".
