I seesaw on this subject.

Aruba is a little island, anyone who has traveled alot in the islands knows these are not places with law enforcement like we have. And they do things slow. And they are inefficient. Especially the Dutch. So the island is taking a rap, maybe unfairly.

But Aruba is also a center of transnational crime, big crime. I don't know about right now, but in the last few years it has been a center of Casa Nostra activity, drug running, money laundering, etc. So that makes one suspicious of their entire island system of justice.

So until we know more, we won't know the truth. But I am not surprised they don't investigate like we do with forensics and all.

I never implied the picture was taken on the bridge of the Tattoo.

My question is: Why is a dj wearing a captain's uniform?

There are a great many wrongs in the US judicial system, and with Florida in particular, but just put yourself in Natalee's mother's shoes. How would you feel if your daughter disappeared in similar circumstances and you couldn't get a straight answer out of the police/judiciary?

The point of her visit was to ask questions and solicit responses.

Sure but that doesn't mean you have to waste the opportunity by asking pointless questions that Juran's mother can't answer.

http://www.hasibokos.com/hbknews/default.asp?view=day&blogDate=6/10/2005

Latest developments in Aruba (Wednesday): Hasibokos.com followed an interview with the government spokesman of Aruba Ruben Trappenberg on Tuesday. He was asked if Aruba is noticing substantial drops in tourist arrivals and increase of cancellations during the Holloway case. Trappenberg indicated that the arrivals and cancellations are still at a normal levels, but he expects a negative short term effect to be noticeable within a month whilst the Holloway case remains unsolved. According to Trappenberg, the international media is certainly not helping. He gave some examples of how the media covered unrelated (negative) issues at times when there was no breaking news to be reported in the Holloway case. During the times when there was no breaking news the media went on to dedicate attention to drug related issues, as they reported that drug cartels are active on the island .They media also visited the slums and reported on prostitution in Aruba. Trappenberg went on to explain that he understands that television programs and news reporting are very expensive, but this doesn’t justify the coverage of negative (unrelated) subjects. According to Trappenberg the fact that the media in America is showing only reruns right now in the low season is putting pressure on the producers to come up with material to fill their slots. Trappenberg also said that the media has been coming to their offices and demanding to speak to the prime minister, Nelson Oduber, personally. When they where informed that this was not possible, they threaten to go a find something negative in Aruba to report on if their request/demand for an interview was not granted. Trappenberg went on to talk to then himself to satisfy them.

Till this day it’s not totally clear why the Natalee Holloway case has been getting so much attention. We’ve been receiving many e-mails with opinions and noticed various comments in forums on this issue. Some of them suggesting that if Natalee was Black or Hispanic-American and/or poor, there wouldn’t have been so much media coverage. It has also come to our attention that in Alamaba alone there are numerous persons missing right now and the authorities have not been unable to solve those cases. We can only hope that the media is also dedication attention to those cases as well, because as we see it they deserve the same media coverage that Natalee has been getting. The search volunteers from Texas are supposed to arrive in Aruba on Friday and there is high hopes that they will be able to find Natalee, some evidence or at least some leads. Considering that the Cub Scout that had been missing in Utah was found by a group volunteers, the hopes are high that this group of search experts from Texas will find something.

No kiddin.'

And if NH's body is never found, "No crime."

The punks go free. Also, in their courts. During a trial, there's no jury, only a judge.

Only ppl allowed in a trial are the attorneys, judge, defendants.

No court room gallery.

Not even the parents.

No press. No cameras.

Not totally sure if there's a stenographer.

I'm pretty sure it was said to Greta last evening (I've watched so many Natalee programs--they are all blurring together). Sorry, but I can't remember the context, but IIRC it was after Greta showed the segment on the Tatoo. It made my ears perk up, because in my mind, Croese was the one they called to take the body out to sea. If so, the elder Van Sloot probably paid him a pretty penny to do it; and the body will never be found.

No body--no prosecution.

I completely agree with you. We need only look within our own communities to see botched investigations, if in fact that is what this has been in Aruba. Some are alluding to cover-up because of the affluence of the boys involved, do they really believe that coverups don't take place every day all over the US? Do people really think that Aruba and other countries don't hear about the violence in American culture, especially against young children and women who are raped and murdered, not by Aruban people but by our own citizens basically because our own failed judicial system.

Deepak's Car (I can see why some may have thought it was a Taxi, as the Taxi's in Aruba look like regular cars with a portable removable magnetic Taxi signs)

Thank you for your response.

Also mentioned today on FOX, Greta was interviewed this morning and said the reason Paulus can't see his soon is because earlier he was allowed a phone call to JvdS in jail. The phone was tapped and Paulus was overheard telling JvdS not to talk.

Maybe the FBI has told Natalee's parents something of what they know, and warned them not to reveal anything that might jeopardize a conviction. I hadn't heard much about the FBI other than their involvement was minimal, they watched but didn't participate. And evidently they never put a flipper n the water to look for a body, either, since they weren't given parameters of where they were allowed to search. In fact, the FBI scuba divers went back to the US. But Natalee's mother said several times that the police told them nothing, and that they, the family, had actually found Joran within twelve hours of their arrival on the island...and questioned him.

You can bet that if the FBI told the family that the chances of finding Natalee dead or alive would improve if they sat and waited for the Aruban justice system to work, that's what they would have done at least for a day or two. That's not what happened. And what about the story that someone saw/heard a young woman on the Marriot beach that night, struggling with at least one young man, trying to get away. The man who witnessed this said he called police or someone in authority, and they blew him off. Was this Natalee?

Considering the Dutch system of justice, how it works -- if information becomes public about the investigation before a certain time, maybe when they're actually tried for a crime, then presumably, the case is tainted and they get off.

I don't know about piloting the Tatto or any boat. I don't know who to believe anymore. But last night they interviewed a friend of Croes and he laughed when asked if Steve could have taken the boat. He said Steve cannot/could not drive the boat. Not a snickering laugh, genuine type. So I don't believe he has the capabilities.

A lot of ppl could drive a boat out in the open water, but getting it into and out of a slip or the dock area is pretty tricky if one does not have skill. If he was not trained to do that, I doubt he would have. Big liability.

That's the exact question I posed to my husband "how did he get to C&C's after his father brought him home from McaD's?"

I said several hundred posts ago that we would be 2 weeks out and still not know ANYTHING about where Natalee is. Then a few hundred posts after that, I said we'd be 4 weeks out and STILL not know where Natalee is. I still hold by that prediction. I'm gittin damn tired of picking over these pathetic SCRAPS over and over again. We need a break in this case and the f***ing Arubans aren't gonna give it to us, you can bet your last dollar on that. If she is on the island the Searchers from Texas will find her. I'm here in Houston and familiar with how they work. They wont stop.

Oh, please, this is a story of young girl missing in paradise. If it was a fiction novel it would sell alot better than 'young girl missing in anywhere, USA.

Furthermore, many find themselves stirred by the strong and determined Beth Twitty. When she gets frustrated, so do the viewers. This isn't even really about aruba at all.
