Hugh Hewitt just said, moments ago, that, according to his sources, Chief Justice William Renquist will announce his retirement on Monday, and that the President will announce his nominee on Tuesday.

Most nominees for CJ are NOT current Justices, historically speaking.
I seriesly doubt there are very many people who know what Rehnquist plans to do. There are even fewer people who know what the President will do.
I would be surprised if Rehnquist would notify the President ahead of time that he will resign. Therefore, to believe Hugh Hewitt (a good man, BTW) I would need to believe his sources know secrets at both the Court and the White House that nobody else knows. I'm not buying it.

Exactly right; doesn't matter WHO it is.
If he nominated Zell Miller, they'd call him Hitler.

The truth is a little too much for some people to bear. I'm not sure who the nominee will be. Some of the names bandied about are not good. Let's hope Scalia gets it and a new conservative is added to the court on top of that.

Yep, it will.
This is about the only thing that really matters to me...if we can get a good SCOTUS justice, they could put Hillary as UN ambassador for all I care. I would be okay with it if we got a good SCOTUS justice...lol

Which did you like better? The pic or the "black hat" line? I'm thinking of making it my tagline.

I sure hope not, I think much of the criticism that she is beholden to large corporate intersets is somewhat true. She is not "beholden" she just believes that property rights are equal to any other rights. The Left can't believe anyone would believe such a thing.

Silly how everyone said, "Vote Bush, the Supreme Court is the most important issue and Bush will nominate good judges."...Instead, we have a few prime candidates that are truly anti-American.Who?

Yes Ted would not make their heads explode however, So, one of your requirements is that the person positively has to be somebody who makes the Dems' heads explode?
I'm down with that.

Exactly right! They aren't vetting because they don't want anybody to know who it is, unless it's already been done. But that saddens me becuase I really want Judge Luttig nominated. I fear all we are going to get is some flunky from Texas.

"John Ashcroft would send the moonbats into a frenzy. Something to be said for that."
Sure the entertainment value would be high but that is a lousy reason to appoint John (states rights as long as they don't conflict with my personal feelings) Ashcroft. His track record as AG showed us he doesn't know much about constitutional law
