Now tell me just how short was the funding for the Va. hospital's???
That's funny - I'm certainly not prospering. I can't eat at my local Wendy's without getting the shits anymore either.
Or is this a government at work unnecessarily spending tax money over and above the $68 BILLION it already costs us? Aw heck, what's another $850 million compared to the cost of protecting the border, protecting citizens, saving tax money etc.
Summary - more Government BS!
Not speaking English doesn't seem to stop the tsunami of illegal Mexican's from storming the borders.
Ooops. I forgot: "What happens if they flunk?" Do they go back - legal or illegal?
I agree.
But the government (Congressmen) is being forced to respond to the whining of the anti-immigrsamts about Mexican gangs, crowded schools, epidemics, hospitals losing money, crowded jails, etc.. with massive spending measures to appease y'all.
One Billion Dollars alone to emergency rooms to compensate for treating illegals. Who puts that money in their pockets? Bilingual doctors who use it to buy new Corvettes. Bilingual nurses, pharmacists, suppliers, administrators, etc...
No money for veterans because y'all insist that the money go to bilingual cops, teachers, clinics, etc... to solve the problems you think are created by illegal aliens.
Correct, but the anti-immigrants have whined so much about Spanish speakers diluting our culture that the government has to do something to appease them.
This should make some of them happy.
LOL. So expecting our government to protect the borders is "whining"?
There are several thousand Bosnian refugee immigrants here in Waterloo. They are blending in quite well, and in a generation or two nobody will know the difference.
Isn't that what government is for? Willing employers and willing employees don't need government assistance, they just need government to get out of the way.
But y'all have said that the reasons you want the border sealed are Mexican gangs, crowded schools, epidemics, hospitals losing money, crowded jails, etc..
Since sealing the border is impossible (see my profile page) the government is doing the best they can to appease you by throwing money at your complaints. You should be thankful, you asked for it.
I think what "we all" have said is we're sick of the spending that is already taking place to accommodate the illegal immigrants. Throwing money is the complaint.
I realize you're only attempting to be cute with your tongue in your cheek, but you've missed the point.
What is your solution other than spend money to stop your complaining?
Furthermore, you can't extrapolate the numbers across the entire border the way you attempt to because The San Diego Sector historically has been the busiest Border Patrol sector, accounting for more than 40 percent of all alien apprehensions along the border with Mexico.
The assertion that Operation Gatekeeper was a failure also relies on information the OIG found to be incorrect - there was no falsification - and information that came from Union officials.
This was also a Clinton/Reno project, and my hope is that Clinton and Reno won't be in charge of dealing with the illegal immigration issue.
What do I want the government to do? A Gatekeeper-type wall combined with policing the borders - allowing and encouraging border patrol agents to actually apprehend illegals - is a good first step to curbing illegal immigration. Preventing illegals from getting driver's licenses or enjoying other benefits of citizenship will remove some of the incentive for them. Deporting illegal aliens when they are caught will also remove some of the incentive.
It may even take more money than is now going into INS and the border patrol, but that's a lot better than some compassionate $850,000 assimilation plant that is doomed to only cost more and never be successful at anything.
The flood of immigrants coming across our border with Mexico is nothing less than an invasion. Congress has the Constitutional duty to repel such invasions even if it offends Hispanic voters. Congress and the President have no Constitutional duty to get reelected, they do have a duty to defend the country against invasion.
Besides, legal Hispanic immigrants and their children are going to be voting on issues that concern everyone - taxes, social security, etc. They won't be single issue voters any more than the rest of us, and many of them (polls going back as far as 1984 show anywhere from 30 to 55 percent are in favor of strengthening the borders and reducing immigration rates) will support a tougher stand on illegal immigration.
Now tell me how our economy will crumble without illegals.
Your link on your profile page goes nowhere.
Where is the proof?
They didn't find any fraud in the actual reporting of the numbers but they found the numbers to be far below what Congress had been led to expect. Reno and Congress were expecting 80% but the official numbers were down around 40% on good days, and those were questionable, but not fraudulent because of the difficulty in accurately measuring the number of get-a-ways.
In any event, such a fence around the entire nation would still allow far more people to get through than want to.
But far fewer than are getting through now. Besides, I didn't say "such a fence around the entire nation" - just on the border with Mexico - and I didn't limit the efforts to just a fence. I believe I gave you four specific actions the government can take:
1. Fence.
2. Encourage border patrol in apprehension of illegals crossing the border.
3. Remove incentives of benefits of citizenship presently enjoyed (at least to some degree) by illegals.
4. Deport illegals when they are arrested.
