In a quick Google, I found nothing to prove your claim that illegals were coming over the fence or going under it in droves. The section of the fence forced immigrants to go east and cross where there is no fence. Which leads me to think that the fence was a deterrent...or why would they go around?
Why can't we have different National Guard or Reserve units from different parts of the country rotate and do a week's duty each year assisting the Border Patrol and monitoring the fence. They can do training exercises part of the day, and assist with surveillance at night.
Of course, politicians are susceptible to the lure of these big companies and their money. "Expanding the tax base" is the excuse they pull out for all sorts of nonsense. The government is spending nearly a million dollars to help foreigners compete with regular Iowans. How is that a good thing? I suppose IBP and Tyson can continue to pay crappy wages as a result.
I don't know the viability of it, but I've had similar ideas that seem reasonable on the surface. It would give excellent training opportunities to the national guard.
On the heels of the success of the Minuteman Project, if I were a state legislator I'd be thinking about a similar project funded by the state. I don't know what it would cost or if it could possibly be cost effective, but I'd be looking into it. Ultimately, it may be up to the states to take the lead on this and allow border patrol to supplement state forces.
Disrupt? How? Can't you still do the things you've always done? Go to the same churches? Shop at the same grocery stores? Watch the same TV programs?
" I suppose IBP and Tyson can continue to pay crappy wages as a result. "
Would you prefer they close down and Americans buy imported beef instead? Wouldn't that hurt the cattle ranches, and the corn growers?
At least I appreciate the fact that you aren't blaming illegals on the problems you think are caused by legal immigrants.
For something to actually get accomplished, you're probably right--the states will have to take the initiative. But that seems so unfair to California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas to have to pay for something that will benefit the other 44 states.
At least with Guard and Reserve units from, say, Iowa, and Utah, and Tennessee, etc., the rest of the country will be helping. And that shouldn't cause a huge increase in public expenditures. These units have to do field training anyway. Why not help where it is needed urgently?
he always misses the point. That's rod's MO and his agenda.
You think those workers at IBP are legal?
Yeah, I bet you had an orgasm over this news.
Yes. You don't think they are checked?
Of course they are not checked.
They hand the H.R. flunkie a Social Security card and a photo I.D. Both have a real name on them--but it's often someone else's name. IBP does not call and verify every single number. The illegal is hired, goes on payroll, start paying those wonderful payroll taxes, and in the off chance that someone along the way notices that there is a duplicate (two people using the same social #, for example), the worker either moves on to a new job elsewhere, or provides a different number and the charade begins again.
You've never actually spoken with an illegal immigrant, have you?
I've spoken with hundreds in their workplaces. It's easy and it happens every day, in almost every city across the country.
By the way, where is the Inspector General's report?
I wonder how much Iowa is spending on occupational training, resettlement, etc. on its NATIVE Iowans whose jobs are either lost to outsourcing, to obsolescence, or, heaven forbid, to immigrant labor?
Why are the FEDS wasting our tax dollars trying to help illegal aliens transitioning into our work force. Sec. Chou needs to use that money and fly those criminals back to where they came from.
After their fingerprints,Photo's and DNA have been taken for the criminal database.

Yes I have. He was a bartender at a high class bar. He had come from Greece on a student visa which had expired. No one suspected he wasn't a native American until he announced that he was going to have to return to Greece because he couldn't get a permanent visa.
I didn't ask him about chicken plucking though. I might have known other people who were illegals and didn't know it. How does one know without asking?
I met a couple "skinhead Meskins" the other day who were well groomed and dressed. Later I was told they were MS-13. Were they illegals or did they have some type visa? How do you tell who is illegal and who isn't?
Because the anti-immigrants are whining about immigrants not assimilating fast enough. You should be pleased that the government is responding to your complaints. (I don't know if they are illegal)
Sounds to me like it was a deterrent. Now, if we had it stretching across the ENTIRE Southern border, and we actually DEPORTED illegals that are already here--say, as soon as they commit so much as a misdemeanor--wouldn't our flow of illegals dry up considerably?
BUMP. Exactly the R/x.
It's ALL about being LEGAL immigrants rod. That's the criteria. LEGAL = welcome.
