ORANJESTAD, Aruba (AP) - A judge in Aruba on Monday ordered the immediate release of two Surinamese brothers held for nearly a month in the disappearance of an Alabama teenager.

A third detainee, the 17-year-old son of a top justice official in Aruba, was ordered held for 60 more days, court officials announced.

The justice official's son, Joran van der Sloot, and Surinamese brothers Deepak Kalpoe, 21, and Satish Kalpoe, 18, were detained on June 9 in the disappearance of 18-year-old Natalee Holloway.

Holloway disappeared in the early hours of May 30, on the last day of a five-day vacation on the Dutch Caribbean island to celebrate her high school graduation with 124 other students.

"The detention of Deepak and Satish K. has not been prolonged," court clerk Isella Wernet said, reading from a statement outside the courthouse. The suspects are ordered released immediately. The detention of Joran van der S. has been prolonged 60 days beginning today."

Wernet went back inside the courthouse without commenting on the basis for the judge's decision.

I would make a distinction, it is the Dutch not the Aruban authorities that are botching the case. The police chief and the prosecutor must take responsibility and they are Dutch.

They seem to think we'll forget about this in time. We should simply stop going to Aruba until they produce the teenager, dead or live, and secure a conviction.

or that "crack" DC team that investigated the Chandra Levy case, helped by the Boulder Colorado DA.

Our state department, if we had a state department, could place Aruba off limits for a period of time, halting U.S. flights down there.

Perhaps that would perk up Aruban interest.

The infrared detecters on those Dutch F-16's must have detected that there were three people in jail for this crime. That's two too many under Dutch law...or something.

So what's the beef about releasing them. If this were the US, they never would spent more than 24 hours in detention. Arubans may have botched the investigation but holding someone that doesnt know anything and/or cant prove Juran's guilt isnt going to help except in a feel good kind of way...someone ought to pay.

No body, no confession = no case. that's it.

As far as we know, there's no evidence of any kind other than the admission by the three young men that they were the last people known to have been with Natalee before her disappearance. The Elizabeth Smart and Shasta Groene cases should have taught us that people can and do turn up alive.

While I personally think Natalee is dead and that Joran probably killed her, without evidence there's no case.

I've lived in the Caribbean for years. I can tell you that many young people go there to party....drink an druge. Everyone has these boys already judged guilty. I've seen it all. Has anyone check boats in the harbor that night that she could have gotten on and sailed away?

Most visting yachts have to check in at a customs point.

In the Islands anything is possible and probability doesn't count for much. Too much sun and rum.

That would definitely work. No flights from the US to Aruba would sink their economy in about a month.

Hey, that reminds me of how well the Boulder Police arrested John and Patsy Ramsey after their daughter was strangled by a cord attached to one of Patsty's paintbrush and no detected entry of an intruder. They did a GREAT job on that!!!!!

As far as the Holloway case, it must be the Hoot or Snoot or whatever boy did it....

No solution in the JonBenet Ramsey case to date that I've heard of, either. 1997.

I wouldn't necessarily call them incompetent. I think they're just making the noose a little bit snugger around Joran's neck.

If only it were simple incompetence. I'm convinced it's covering up for well-connected criminals.

I think Joran is responsible for Natalee's death but I think it was some kind of accident. An allergic reaction to drugs that he gave her or provided for her or she vomited and aspirated it during sex or rape on the beach. Then he panicked and called dad to help dispose of her body. Unless she washes up on another beach somewhere or Joran confesses, this is over. Sadly, this is what I am afraid happened.

I've refrained from offering my opinion because it might seem just a little too weird, but nothing can be any weirder than how this 'investigation' is going ... so ....

I think it was a maritime "put out or get out' challenge.

Natalie got out and became ocean.

I think she was given some type of date rape drug, which was supposedly not uncommon at Carlos and Charlies. I do not call that an accident. The intent to rape is no accident. But you cannot rule out violence, this clown supposedly had anger management issues.
