Parents think Boy is Reincarnated WW2 Pilot (weird story as seen on "Prime Time")
abc.com ^ | 6-30-05 | abc new

Six decades ago, a 21-year-old Navy fighter pilot on a mission over the Pacific was shot down by Japanese artillery. His name might have been forgotten, were it not for 6-year-old James Leininger.

Quite a few people — including those who knew the fighter pilot — think James is the pilot, reincarnated.

James' parents, Andrea and Bruce, a highly educated, modern couple, say they are "probably the people least likely to have a scenario like this pop up in their lives."

But over time, they have become convinced their little son has had a former life.

From an early age, James would play with nothing else but planes, his parents say. But when he was 2, they said the planes their son loved began to give him regular nightmares.

"I'd wake him up and he'd be screaming," Andrea told "Primetime Live" co-anchor Chris Cuomo. She said when she asked her son what he was dreaming about, he would say, "Airplane crash on fire, little man can't get out."

Reality Check

Andrea says her mom was the first to suggest James was remembering a past life.

At first, Andrea says she was doubtful. James was only watching kids' shows, his parents say, and they weren't watching World War II documentaries or conversing about military history.

But as time went by, Andrea began to wonder what to believe. In one video of James at age 3, he goes over a plane as if he's doing a preflight check.

Another time, Andrea said, she bought him a toy plane, and pointed out what appeared to be a bomb on its underside. She says James corrected her, and told her it was a drop tank. "I'd never heard of a drop tank," she said. "I didn't know what a drop tank was."

.....I'm not even disputing the "authenticity" of this story. I'm just asking if it belongs on a supposedly journalistic program. Why doesn't ABC just bring back "Ripley's Believe It or Not" if they want to run stories like this?.....

I agree. This kid story was amazing. Are the parents just plain lying? I don't know.

The first story about the groom with amnesia for a year was just stupid in my opinion. I believe he was just a form of a runaway groom who took a year off mentally to be babied. I can't believe his wife's parents bought it hook, line and sinker.

Ask him for his pre-flight check list. No pilot worth his wings would ever forget that. So said my uncle, now dead, who flew the hump from India to China and back in WWII.

Worst case the parents are pulling a scam using their child. Best case, self deception, they like the idea so much and the kid is picking up on easily seen things on the boob toob. How about that? TV? nah cant be.
Reincarnated pilot. Yep. Yes sir.

Put the kid in an actual F4U Cockpit and watch his intimate knowledge go out the door. Anyone can know outside details. Only a pilot could know the intimate details of the cockpit that your life depended on.
Small things, the feel of the trim controls, the gauges, airspeeds for approach. All that they wont show on TV. All that I guarantee the kid wont know.

What next? When are we going to grow beyond this nonsens?

The world it wierder than people ever believe at the time. What is time, anyway? How far away is yesterday, or tomorrow? What is self awareness? Have you seen the fibers of the world at sunset?

What is to say the a person's soul can't come back to this side if it thinks it has unfinished business?

Hey...wait just a minute! My grandaughter is only 4 years old, ugly as dirt, whines all the time and craps all over the place.

Her only claim to fame is that she thinks she is the reincarnation of Hillary Clinton.

When I told her that it couldn't be because Hillary wasn't dead yet.

The kid replied, "Who would know the difference?".

If that happens, the parents had better call for an exorcist!;)

Great post (and dead-on), not to mention a killer screen name. :) Gotta love that movie ("Army of Darkness", for the uninitiated). Bruce Campbell is just the best...........

Ever read his book, by the way?

Went to a Jeep carrier reunion as a guest two years ago and met a former Marine Corsair pilot that operated from one. Utterly amazing, give the small size of those carrier decks and the well-known difficulty in seeing the deck on final approach from "Old Hose Nose", but they did it.

I like the idea one of the writers had: put the kid in a Corsair cockpit and see if he knows what he's looking at...

Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?

While on vacation last week we visited an air museum. There was a B-29 on display. I managed to get my family into the cockpit for a visit. Much to our surprise, our six year old walked straight to the very front, dropped into the bombardier's place, unfolded the seat, then proceeded to "preflight" the Norden Bombsight. He even twiddled controls that were on the front of its housing, not visible from the seat. The curator was a bit freaked out.

We know He does not make mistakes

Ah, but we do. Maybe we are given more than once change to come to God through Christ. I would place no limitations on the wonders of God, the equipment he designed (the soul), or his methods of mercy. Quit pretending to have God all figured out.

Please cite the Word of God that we have in Scripture that leads you to this assertion

I would place no limitations on the wonders of God, the equipment he designed (the soul), or his methods of mercy.

yet you ascribe to a facet of Hinduism and Krishna that totally ignores the divinity of Christ and the Atoning sacrifice we have in Him, as a sinless offering of the Lamb of God.

Quit pretending to have God all figured out.

That would be "Quit pretending to have God all figured out, Pastor"

Have a blessed day

Why would reincarnation indicate a mistake on God's part?

To send a soul back for a second try indicates there is no initial judgment. Let me put it this way - If you dont claim Christs sacrifice, as we know the way to the Father is only through Him, havent you in fact denied Him. That in itself is eternally damning. Now - consider that once youve denied Christ (Gods only Son) the presumption is that God ignores this and gives you a second chance

Theres nothing Scriptural to support this - therefore its extra Biblical and purely speculative (besides being riddled with holes)

OOOOH ... a direct Red Telephone to God's Desk. I lost my respect for the clergy twenty years ago. It is a society for mutual protection due to "do as I say, not as I do" activities.

Prove that God doesn't "reprocess" Hindus and others eventually. Eternity is a long time. The Bible doesn't cover a lot of topics that are nevertheless part of Creation. I just don't think all of God's secrets are in print. His Mercy is larger than the human mind, so I don't expect Him to divulge eveything to us wee ones.

There is exceptionally good evidence that reincarnation happens. There is good evidence for evolution as well. I gave up trying to look into God's Tool Box a long time ago. I'm having too much trouble with my own.

then proceeded to "preflight" the Norden Bombsight.

have you any experience with NBS preflight prep ?.........excepting that, I'll add that you have more computing power available in your home, than existed on the planet in 1944.......and I'd wager your son is familiar with the rudiments of all of it, from nintendo to the remote control(s) and your PC.

fwiw, IMO

"Theres nothing Scriptural to support this"

Well, with all due respect, that would depend on whose Scriptures you're looking at...

No, but the man that gave the cockpit tour most certainly did. We were conversing freely at the time since it was a single family tour.

I'm a software engineer who worked in aerospace during the Skylab program. My knowledge of aircraft is not pedestrian simply because that form of engineering has interested me my entire life. I know the nature of the games my kids play because I keep pretty good track of my kids. (None of their games feature a Norden, and no sight is represented in 3-D.) The controls on ANY PC do not look at all like a Nordon. I don't know if you know this or not, the Norden doesn't have an LCD screen or a keyboard/mouse.

Now, given all of that, I am aware that we boys can find the knobs on machines pretty quickly, then resolve their purpose in a hurry. I don't think I'd register this incident as absolute proof of reincarnation. I wouldn't rule out the possibility, either.
