Somebody needs to stand up and say, "When you win the election, you pick the nominees. Until then, SHUT UP!!! Just shut up! Just go away! Bury yourselves in your rat holes and don't come out till you win an election. When you win election, you can put all these socialist wackos like Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer all over the court but until then shut up! You are really irritating me." Rush was on fire today!

You have Chuck Schumer demanding a judge summit with the White House. Democrats demanding to sit in on the selection process, which the Constitution does not allow them
Since when have libs cared about the constitution?

Hmmmm....as I recall, conventional wisdom is that a quick announcement followed by quick hearings favor the nominee's confirmation.
Robert Bork was nominated shortly after the vacancy announcement (July?), but Biden announced that hearings would not begin until September (that was approximately two months).
The extra lead time gave liberal interest groups a lot of time to amass opposition.
Of course with Bush not announcing the nominee, interest groups cannot produce specific commercials smearing a specific nominee -- although they're probably preparing against any and all top candidates.
I would advise Bush to name a nominee quickly and Frist to hold hearings as soon as possible.

Over a period of time, Democrats lost the House, Senate, majority of Governorships, a Presidential re election.
The majority has made and confirmed their judgment.
Let the majority be represented at this Supreme nomination.
All else is disenfranchising voters.

Thomas Jefferson agreed with Rush, writing: "On every question of construction [of the Constitution], carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates, and instead of trying what meaning may be squeezed out of the text, or invented against it, conform to the probable one in which it was passed. -- to Judge William Johnson, June 12, 1823

He can do what he wants. That's exactly what he should do.

That's why the new podcasting is so great. It used to be I had to sit by the computer and listen to what I missed (plus wait for all the damn buffering). Now it just downloads automatically, I load it on my iPod and I', all set.

I'm tired of reacting. I'm tired of these Democrats acting like they won the election. Somebody needs to stand up and say, "When you win the election, you pick the nominees. Until then, SHUT UP!!! Just shut up!

Could a Rush 24/7 member with access to today's transcript please look something up for me? Rush had this amazing quote about the "left's sacrament is abortion and their god has nine heads". I tried to write it down but I wasn't quick enough. It was the most profound thing I'd heard in quite a while and I would greatly appreciate help finding it.
To: Ronaldus Magnus
I can't find it in any of today's transcripts, but here is a link to a thread I posted a while back. Rush was absolutely perfect and I'm fairly certain it was the first time he referred to the "sacrement" of abortion.

The purpose is not for the White House to send a judge up that the Senate likes. The purpose here is for the Senate to realize that if they reject this they're going to get the same thing back; if they reject that they're going to get the same thing back.
I'm not sure if that's true. After all, Nixon had two conservatives rejected and then appointed a liberal in Harry Blackmunn. And after Bork was rejected and Douglas Ginsburg withdrew his named, Reagan appointed moderate Anthony Kennedy. The Senate can shape the court.

Found it in the July 1st transcript from the Google cache so Rush must have been repeating himself today:
An assault on the judiciary? Your elected officials who plan on exercising their Article 3 rights in the US Constitution, according to the left, is assaulting the judiciary, because the judiciary to these people is god. The Supreme Court is god. God has nine heads and god just lost a head today -- and the left has to make sure their god has nine heads with at least five of them on their side. Just think of it in religious terms. The left is looking at that court as God and church and sanctuary with abortion as the sacrament. And so what they have to do now is make sure that Sandra Day O'Connor is replaced with a like-minded activist and all the while they've got to characterize your and my elected officials as assaulting the judiciary when all they are doing is exercising Article 3 rights under the Constitution.
To: red-dawg
Unfortunately we also have to ask, since when does this President care about the Constitution?
