BLAST AT CITY TUBE STATION - FOUR BOMB EXPLOSIONS AROUND LONDON
Sky News ^ | July 7, 2005

Posted on 07/07/2005 1:45:13 AM PDT by RWR8189

There has been an explosion at Aldgate East underground station in London, causing the closure of the entire Tube network.

There are also reports that a second incident took place at Edgware Road station in north west London.

The Aldgate East blast was caused by "some kind of power surge", according to Tube infrastructure company Metronet, which is responsible for maintaining the Metropolitan line.

A spokesman said: "We don't know the extent of the problem yet."

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene."

British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".

"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.

"All we know at the moment is that staff reported a loud bang at 8.49am. No one is sure what caused an explosion, but it is thought it could have been a collision, a power cut, or a power cable problem."

One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from Kings Cross when there was a huge flash.

The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.

He added people were milling around Kings Cross covered in soot.

The mufti or whatever he is made those statements over a year ago.

Meanwhile, a most opportune moment to have mounted this attack has slipped away -- the recent British elections. Striking Britain then, in order to influence young and callow voters to come out and oppose the Government, would have exactly paralleled the strategy in Spain, which worked.

The fact that this bunch didn't attack for over 15 months after their mufti bragged about it, missing a great opportunity in the meantime, says something about British security. I think the British security measures had an effect.

Furthermore, two of the devices failed to detonate and are now being dissected by Scotland Yard and the military, and they may well yield arrests. The failure rate was much higher than for the Madrid operation and represents another point of decline in effectiveness from a year ago.

It's worth noting that they had to wait until the focus of police efforts were centered on the G8 meeting, rather than at any other time.

They hit us when we were most vulnerable.

One of my favorite newspapers that I read online each day is The Scotsman. I saw this and doubted you had seen it:

"Basically, there was a young gentleman, an olive-skinned gentleman, in front of me and he kept diving into a bag at his feet. He became more and more agitated and so, on reflection, that may have been the bomber I was standing next to."

I didn't say you were a troll. I said you haven't convinced me you're NOT a troll..........and you still haven't. (It's easy to say, "I worked for the campaign" where nobody knows you. Some trolls are actually smart enough to do that).

Actually, I don't care if you are or aren't, because it doesn't change the fact that the President is a strong leader, and you either aren't bright enough, or informed enough to recognize it.

There are 50,000,000 people free now because of his leadership. There are moves toward democracy all over the Middle East. We have not been attacked since 9/11. The economy is strong and productivity booming. The military has grown and strengthened and respects and loves this Commander in Chief. And we ARE changing hearts and minds.

Puke away. It doesn't change the facts that the terrorists ARE being brought to justice because of the strong leadership of President Bush.

Troll or not......you're just plain wrong.

People just don't get it do they?

The left doesn't get it.

And apparently a number of freepers don't either..........

But you can't say that they are illogical based on their standards and their standards are what they use to make decisions.

You nailed it in your response here, Gunrunner.

furball is falsely applying some set of 'standards' to Islamofascists based on their ability to reason, and missing the fact that there is nothing rational in what they are doing.

It's like all those on the left trying to understand WHY they hate us, and what we have done to deserve it so we can 'fix' it.

Both are missing the fundamental problem that it is raw hatred that motivates them, and the only way to stop them is to destroy them.

Spain's post-Madrid action encouraged the terrorists.

Yes I do. Your point?

Kind of hard to deal with the terrorists at their source, or at least the source of their indoctrination and funding, when your government considers their source (i.e. the kingdom of Saudi Arabia) to be a close friend and ally.

First of all, being an ally is not being a 'close friend.' The government of Saudi Arabia is working with us to eliminate terror within the country, not actively working against us.

While it is obvious that the government there has not done enough in the past, and that SA has bred terrorists, there is a significant difference between the government there and the Taliban in Afghanistan and Saddam's brutal Baathist regime in Iraq.

We're not going to militarily take out the government of every country where terrorism exists. This is a multi-faceted war, and if you think it's not being fought in Saudi Arabia, you're missing some information.

This made me laugh:

From a friend's Livejournal:

The Emanation of the Giant Albion

Old London, you must understand, is a cackling old whore. She is big, ugly and has blackened teeth and bad skin under the caked make-up; her warts are ill-hidden and her clothes not of the current mode. She is the Old Lady of Threadneedle Street, throttling the life out of the Indies and the tea trade; she is Mother Gin, dashing her childrens' brains out against the steps in the rookeries of St. Giles. She is a villainess of the blackest stripe, of the old school. Mind your purse when you walk with her, because her fingers are nimble and her morals as open as her old sewers.

But she's built on the bones of Boudicca and the Gloriana herself; she's seen kings and queens and lords and she's seen a fair few of them lose their heads. She won't lose hers over such a little trifle as this. Jacobites and Chartists and Fenians and Roaring Boys and Nazis and the IRA have all boasted that they'll bring the old strumpet to her knees, and where are they now? They cast themselves against her and she wore them all down in the end.

This is the city of Hawksmoor and Wren; the city of the Ratcliffe Highway and the confessions of de Quincey, of Spring-heeled Jack and Francis Dashwood, of small quarrels in Deptford and great reckonings at Tyburn, of old Leather Apron and his red days of autumn. What do these poor fool people imagine they can teach old London of wickedness?

London's bones were old before the Romans came. Fire has scoured her flat; plague raddled her and still she reels out of the shadows, too much make up, stinking of cheap gin, skirts ridden up and though you know you shouldn't, still you can't resist her leering grin and promise of adventure in the dark.

History sits to one side plotting new abuses to heap upon her, this fallen woman of a royal line, and she endures defiant and unbowed, with a twisted grin and a dare. Don't worry about old London. She's seen off her share of black eyes in the past. Save your pity for those who have done it, for when London finds them she'll show none, like the cool and ruthless businesswoman that she is; no. In lieu of pity, she'll show them her own justice.

President Bush has referred to them time and again as being friends, including using the term "close friend" (not just when he's had various members of their government visiting his ranch, either), but regardless...

Yes, they are not the Taliban, and yes, they are fighting terrorists.

However, they are not going after the extremists, the Imams, the temples that are still spreading religious hatred, the money that is flowing out. There is a lot of anti-American/Western preaching going on in Saudi Arabia and it's not being clamped down upon.

Thinking of it as fighting a house fire, by hosing down the lawn around it, and not directly going after the source. By continuing to let it burn, every now and then the fire is going to jump the lawn and spread.

I know I'm not the only one who wouldn't be surprised if there was a Saudi connection to the London bombings..

The British and US media have shown remarkable restraint by not publishing pictures of the 700 injured, let alone the dead.

Yeah. The same restraint they showed on 9/11. The US press showed exactly one fatality, the fire dept Chaplin they falsely thought was gay....

(If the British government had a lick of sense they'd forbid the press from showing any bodies)

I'm not defending the Saudis..........just deliniating the differences between the countries where we have intervened militarily, and those we have not.

Your first cryptic post to me implied that you thought that we should invade Saudi Arabia militarily and kill the terrorists there.

I'm just making the distinction between the necessity of invading Afghanistan and Iraq, and your implication that we should do the same in Saudi Arabia.

Neither of us knows what kinds of pressures are being put on the Saudi government by the Bush administration behind the scenes to go after the Imams and shut down the rhetoric.

btw.....I wouldn't be surprised if there were Saudis involved in any terrorist attack...........but that's not the point, IMO.

That the government is actively working to fight terrorism, and is therefore not subject to military invasion of their sovereign territory?

Besides which, many Saudi terrorists have gone into Iraq and we're killing them there.

One can kill 'mosque-itos' in the surrounding countryside, or one can drain the swamp.

If ya don't drain the swamp, you can spend millennia swatting mosque-itos...

Your right, I didn't mean to give that impression. The only thing we can do in regards to SA, is to get off middle eastern oil and completly pull out of the region, and that still may leave us vulnerable.
