I was lectured on Freerepublic that I was supposed to "feel safer" because we captured Saddam -- even though there's no evidence that he was behind 9-11. Osama is the guy that Bush promised to get "dead or alive" -- but four years later, he's still out there, free as a jail bird.
Maybe it's time to refocus on the mastermind and culprits who were behind 9-11?
Prediction: I'll get flamed as a "DU provacateur" for advocating that we go after somebody who killed 3000-plus people on American soil.
You go find him and show us how easy it is.
Go ahead and get him.
Please explain how capturing Osama is going to stop this?
"free as a jail bird"?
What the heck is that supposed to mean?
Maybe you are just an idiot.
having worked with the men and women of the US Military, if they could have found him, they would have...
Osama is a slippery bastard, but we shouldnt put off other issues that needed to be dealt with (i.e. Saddam) in the meantime.
So when do you ship out? I mean you are volunteering for this aren't you?
What exactly are you asking to be done--specifically, not "find him" because that's what everyone wants.
Are you implying that we haven't been hunting Osama?
Remember, we can make a lot of mistakes in the hunt for this bastard, but he only has to make one mistake and he's ours. Don't you worry, we'll get him.
I feel safer because Saddam is out of power and in jail. I feel safer because Osama-who? is...out of the picture, sort of speak.

CIA Director Porter Goss says the agency has a good idea where al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden is hiding. In an interview with Time magazine published Monday, Goss, 66, said much of the delay in apprehending bin Laden was rooted in diplomacy. "When you go to the very difficult question of dealing with sanctuaries in sovereign states, you're dealing with a problem of our sense of international obligation, fair play," Goss said. "We have to find a way to work in a conventional world in unconventional ways that are acceptable to the international community."
No, you won't be flamed as DUmmy.
We'll just all think you are really lame and think to ourselves , "Durrr... Gee, I bet Rummy never thought of that."
So, um... where is he that we may pick him up, genius?
Good for you. I don't -- and neither do the residents of London. Aren't open borders wonderful?
"Please explain how capturing Osama is going to stop this?"
Exactly!
If we get him dead or alive all we will do is have 100 other crazies trying to outdo him.
As much as I hate the SOB we are better off if OBL is in hiding; at least for now anyway.
yeah sure I KNOW where Osama is too...
he is in the Middle East....
doesnt mean that he is either A) there now. As Zarqawi has proven, there is some security in never sleeping in a bed or staying at any one safe house or B) in a country were we can reach him.
Sure. Go barging into the Northwest Frontier - a region no foreign power has ever controlled. Make it to where our presence in Afghanistan will no longer be tolerated and spark a widespread tribal war that will make the Sunni Triangle look like a school zone. Makes loads of sense.
Osama is an important figure, but he's also one man in a decentralized organization. The problem with the Bush Admin's approach is not with failing to go after Osama - but failing to call this war what it really is - a war against radical Islamism, not against terror per se. I could care less what Tamil Tiger terrorists are plotting on Sri Lanka - but I do care if we have Islamist cells in this country.

Welcome to Free Republic. :)
That may explain why President Bush never claimed Hussein was behind 9/11.
People like you both amuse and disgust me. You expend energy to mock and impede the war on terror, you're nowhere to be found as daily we post victory after victory in the GWOT, but the second something like this happens you proclaim defeat, using the Brits' suffering for your own weak position. You should be ashamed.
CIA Director Porter Goss says the agency has a good idea where al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden is hiding.
Is not the same as,
Goss says CIA knows where bin Laden is
I won't flame you for being concerned about Osama Bin Hidin', but I will flame you for being terribly short-sighted.
While Osama is the visible face of Islamic extremism, he is merely a symptom associated with a far wosre problem: the inability of the Muslim world to join the rest of us in the 21st century.
We can argue all day about what the "root causes" of terrorism are, and every point-counterpoint made will have some merit, but at the end of the day we're not dealing with an individual or an organization --- we're dealing with a mindset that hides under the virtue of religious belief.
When the Muslims make the great leap forward out of the 7th century, the Osamas, Saddams and Ayahtollahs will all disappear. In the meantime, unfortunately, people will die, economies will be ruined and suffering will continue.
Muslims must realize that this is a battle that they cannot win because Western society is dynamic while theirs is static. The sooner they come to this realization, and more importantly, make an effort to correct it, the better off we'll all be.
The ball is in their court. In the meantime, we must continue to defend ourselves and our allies, and meet force with force where necessary. The only alternative is surrender.
Oh, so now Bush is responsible for the UK's open borders?
You know where he is?
If so, tell those who can do something about it.
Like the James brothers.
It's just not that easy. It'll take years, and we'll never get them all.
But victory, eventually, is certain.
Haven't you noticed that this never became a huge story? It's because of those three words above--we don't KNOW, we have AN IDEA. If Bush knew exactly where UBL was, he'd get him. The CIA's word is still not the gold standard, and having a "good idea" ("In Pakistan somewhere"?) isn't actionable intel. All it does is get nervous nellies thinking "Oooh! Oooh! We're letting him run free!".
Of course we should get him, but anyone who knows the most basic facts about Al Qaeda knows that it doesn't rely on one man; notice that the "planners" of 9-11 were numerous?
I thnk it's a little tougher than that, I believe the military has a good idea where he is, but marching across foreign borders right now "wouldn't be prudent" as GHWB put it.
I've read your posts before and probably replied to a few, no need for name calling or insults, I think you're as red as the rest of us, but ask a serious question. Islam is such a deep dark place, I don't think just getting Osama will solve the problem.
Who are you again?
Even if we catch Osama, the war on terror will not be finished..
ZZZZZZZZZZZ. ZZZZZZZZZ.
" Aren't open borders wonderful? "
How dare you be opportunistic over the deaths in London.
Nothing but more hot air from you.
As we speak a Navy SEAL is allegedly about to be murdered. Captured while conducting secret operations.
Go ask your pathetic, sniveling, lame ass question to him.
You're spewing lines of the lefties..Change the station, now!
Exactly.
Tell that to the Navy SEALS that were lost recently in the hunt for the scum. NEWS FLASH, Even if we capture OBL terrorism would not disappear, but would continue until the radical islamists are all dead or have seen the error of their ways (yeh, like that would ever happen). Terrorism finds strength in Iran and Syria and what better way to lever pressure against them is to be in their back yard. You need to see the bigger picture.
A Masterpiece!
Are you honestly that simple?
It's all our fault, us evil Westerners should get what we deserve. All bow to Allah, wear your burka's and submit to the chosen few to rule the world.
How many years did it take us to find Eric Rudolf? And that involved our home country.
You gonna name names? If so, I'll stay and watch.
Well at least you got something right
You're an idiot.
Can't find him as long as our military has to worry about mishandling the Koran.
Call me when you get to Afghanistan or Iraq, after you capture Osama...
