The announcement that came from the White House is spooky in its brevity. It was just one sentence announcing the end of the COVID emergency. The 15 Days announced on March 16, 2020, which implemented the national emergency declared a few days earlier, ended up lasting 1,135 days. What resulted? National ruin. We see it in every aspect of our lives: cultural, economic, educational, public health, familial, community, and trust in institutions. Life expectancy is in free fall, not from COVID but from the fallout of the response. Cities are wrecked. Millions have been professionally and demographically displaced. It’s not...

So, is China going to attack? Short answer: Only Xi knows. Absent that information, here are a few thoughts. A range of pressures, including an aging population, unresolved territorial disputes, and a slowing economy, is conspiring to challenge the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) legitimacy, which is premised on a post-Tiananmen promise of prosperity. These pressures may lead Xi to take action over Taiwan before Beijing’s economic and military advantages dwindle – the so-called “Davidson Window.” Then there is the “Pax Olympics” school that sees concern over global image forestalling Chinese aggression till after the 2022 Winter Olympics. There are ready...

Starting off the music some women I was infatuated with in my fantasy world back in my youth and the reality slap to the face of my vanity and ego from the late great Jim Croce a short life with some great music left behind.... I fantasized that I was someone much greater than myself to deal with reality through decades of my life and wanting to be someone big can lead to something awful. A convicted killed said this when he appeared before a parole board last month.... "I assassinated him....because he was very, very, very famous and that's...

  • 70 years on, little known about the Wilhelm Gustloff sinking (deadliest ever shipwreck anniversary)

    02/01/2015 2:57:53 AM PST · by Paid_Russian_Troll · 121 replies
Over 9,000 people died in the Baltic Sea on January 30, 1945, in an attempt to evade the Red Army. The Wilhelm Gustloff was the largest shipwreck in history, but little is known about the catastrophe seven decades on. At around 9 p.m. on January 30, 1945, Adolf Hitler was speaking to the German people. In the packed dining hall of the luxury liner "Wilhelm Gustloff," as in most of the rest of the country, a radio was broadcasting Hitler's address, but the thousands of refugees from Pomerania and East and West Prussia who had struggled onto the ship weren't...

  • Why Do Hawks Want to Antagonize Russia?

The U.S. is fortunate that Russia is not intent on undermining our interests, which makes it a little odd that so many American hawks insist that this is so and sometimes seem eager to make it so. Consider Syria. Syria hawks see Russian opposition to Western and Arab intervention in the country as proof of Russian antagonism to America, but Russia is at most half-heartedly defending the status quo and continuing its formal policy of objecting to outside interference in other states’ internal affairs. It has committed itself to nothing except occasionally vetoing a resolution at the U.N., and if...

Al-Shabaab, the Somali branch of al Qaeda, ousted American jihadi Abu Mansour al-Amriki from the group after he posted online video messages contrary to the terrorist organization's teachings, CNN reported. Al-Amriki, who was born Omar Hammami in a suburb of Mobile, Alabama, was, for a period of time, a key recruiter for the group, attracting Americans of Somali heritage to the African country to fight for the terrorist group. In March, however, al-Amriki posted a video saying he felt like he was at risk. "I feel that my life may be endangered by Harakat Shabaab al-Mujahideen due to some differences...

For the first time in decades, the Republican team running for the White House has little substantial foreign policy or military experience. Support for same-sex marriage has risen across the board in the last four years, new polling data shows, signalling a shift in the overall political and social views of Americans. The new data, released Wednesday by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, shows a higher percentage of Democrats, Republicans, whites, minorities and people of all generations support same-sex marriage legalization.... Among voting groups, there has been an increase in support for same-sex marriage even among Republicans. We have a real problem with the conservative side being represented at too often as a characture of what a real loving and honest conservative is, often by talk show hosts. I won't name names, but when we come off like an Archie Bunker, hardened type, it actually does our side a lot of harm! When I hear one talk show host claiming that it is the women taking over positions of power and that they cannot make sound decisions, latter changing the facts and saying now only liberal women; yet not including the fact that mans misuse of women...

John Roco argues that a pattern of increasing power enabling access to a female 'of more desire to him' has defined Newt Gingrich for the election, debates, presidential race of 2012, as well as leaving a wife when she was 'baggage' of being ill, and seemingly not to serve his purposes. John Roco also argues of Newt Gingrich's attack ability at debates, whether South Carolina, Florida or future, actually becomes an extreme deficit of one who would want to be leader of our nation, needing to 'contain' outbursts and expressions of ego empowerment. Admiral Patrick Walsh is mentioned as one...
  • Why do you perceive Communism to be evil (Mice on the Menu for Christmas- Enjoy Kitties)

OK, this is not a flame thread. I'm genuinely curious why conservatives think Communism is so evil. I am a Communist. I am also a God-fearing Christian, a tax-paying and loyal American, and a generally nice guy. Communism was perverted by third world despots and was never implemented fully in its true form. Communism is about cooperation and good will. And it's important to note that economic success and cooperation are not mutally exclusive. In fact, I would argue greater cooperation among individuals leads to more prosperity and more overall happiness.

We have a problem when our supposed populist non politician front runner is a former Federal Reserve chairman. Herman Cain does have experience in the private sector, but a good portion of that private sector experience is working for the private corporation-The Federal Reserve. Herman Cain believes that individual citizens can just call up the private corporation known as The Federal Reserve and ask them how they operate? Who does he think we are? You cannot even step foot on the property of the Private Reserve. You can call the human relations department at the Federal Reserve and they will...
