Japanese accountant picked as cheerleader for NFL's Colts

Accountant Yoshiko Danjo will make her debut as a cheerleader for the NFL's Indianapolis Colts during a pre-season event here in Tokyo next week.

Yoshiko Danjo

Danjo was set to follow her father and grandmother who were both certified public accountants, but her white-collar career has been put on hold after she was chosen as a cheerleader.

Danjo received dancing lessons for six years during her junior high and high school days after watching a stage drama of the major Shiki Theatre Company.

After entering Konan University in Kobe, Danjo witnessed a cheerleading performance and took up the activity.

"You do cheerleading in a group. It suits me because I am not cut out for individual competition," said Danjo, 28.

She didn't want to give up cheerleading after graduating from university and becoming a tax accountant, so she served as a cheerleader for company-owned football clubs in Japan and joined "USA," a cheerleader organization in the country.

From Monday to Friday, she worked as an accountant in Osaka, and often visited Tokyo on weekends to do cheerleading.

In February, while taking part in a special cheerleading course in Hawaii for the "Pro Bowl," the NFL's All-Star Game, a short cheerleader encouraged her to become a cheerleader in the NFL.

Dajor, 152 centimeters tall, said, "I learned then that height doesn't matter."

Visiting the U.S. again in April, Danjo finally won the Colts' cheerleading audition, although her chances were only about one in nine.

After a NFL cheerleaders' event in mid-July, the Indianapolis Colts will play the Atlanta Falcons in Tokyo on Aug. 6. (Mainichi)

I win the bears would have traded up for Matt Jones and put him at TE. Now the Bears are scrambling to figure out who to put at TE, they are maybe going to put conver a WR and put him there... or stick with one that they had... bad move... I knew the needed a a TE we had a RB and just need the o-line fixed, now we have 2 RB's o-line patched and no credible TE... my 2 teams are Bears and Colts.

Great, Japan is critically understaffed with CPA's right now and then one of them goes and pursues a ridiculous career as NFL eye-candy! This is outrageous and...oh wait, nice picture...anyways...Japan needs CPA's for their MNC's to comply with the GAAP...oh wait, five feet tall? Never mind. Welcome to America!

I matters to me. How tall is 152 centimeters in REAL measurements?

whoo hoo almost time for football! :D

Youth Football sign ups start at 5PM local time for me, today. Looking forward to this season, as this is the last year that I will be able to coach my son; he goes into school sports year after this.

As a coach, the next 3-4 months are the best time of the year for me. Teaching the young kids the skills of the game, sharing my love of the game with them, and seeing them develop through out the season. There are few things that can compare with the look a kid gets on his face when an understanding of the game comes across him. From my experience, it usually comes right after the kid makes his first really big hit in a game, and understands that its more fun to do the hitting, than taking it:-)

152 centimeters.......that's 60.8 inches for you and me....or 5' even.

Momma always said "good things come in small packages". Dajor is cute and having lived in Japan for 4.5 years, I appreciate their ladies!

I used to work at a Summer resort which hired around 30 Japanese students for part of the Summer. The girls were generally pretty plain although every year there would be one or two really pretty ones.

I noticed the Japanese boys thought the same ones were pretty that we did.

Previous poster had it wrong. 152 cm is 59.8 inches. 60.0 inches is 152.4 cm, so she could actually be exactly 5 feet tall and her height in centimeters was rounded down; but if she were 5'0 1/4" then she'd be listed at 153 cm.

5 feet is tall enough, even 4'11" is tall enough.

Yep! I played Strong Saftey, a little bit of corner and "some"
running back, Defense was the best. :D We had great coaches I only got to play one season in 8th grade because I kept tearing hip muscles, but the injury free season I had was probably the best time I ever had. :D
