2008 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said Friday she was "outraged" that President Bush hasn't spent more money to beef up security on New York City's mass transit system in the wake of Thursday's train bombings in London.
"I'm absolutely outraged by the failure of the administration to release the [rail security] funding that Congress approved last year," the top Democrat complained.
"We are woefully behind where London and other subway systems are because London does have the video surveillance," she fumed. "I just don't understand what the holdup is." Even before the smoke cleared in London, Clinton was on the attack, ripping Bush in a statement posted to her official Senate Web site on Thursday:
"It is imperative that the millions of New Yorkers who travel on trains and buses know that our tunnels and facilities continue to operate with the highest security operations in place. The Presidents budget calls for a $50 million cut in funding for rail and transit security this year, which is clearly a step in the wrong direction."
Mrs. Clinton vowed to continue to press the White House to get the job done, saying, "I will work to ensure that we provide the resources needed to meet our rail and transit security needs."
what does she do as senator? it's 'her' state (har har) ... why doesn't she propose anything herself? what a girly-man!
To quote a great literary work: "My give-a-damn's busted."
Oh I'm not surprised she's outraged. She is an outrage.
Um, the "video surveillance" in London did what? Maybe the videos are good for an after the fact analysis. We need to spend the money on intelligence to find the terrorists well before the make it to the subway!!!!
"I'm outraged" .....Johnny Cochran defending the guilty
"I'm outraged"......Hillary Clinton....whatever...
And you, rhymes with itch, are in the way--
And one more thing--we missed the bill you authored proposing said transit cams--
Could you direct us to the bill number?
Didn't think so.
Lot of good it did them, huh?
PIG what has the State and City of NY done=NOTHING.
I'm sure glad that Bush Sr. has found some daddy time to spend with this POS's husband. I'm still trying to figure that one out...
Well, if it's that critical, New York could tax its citizens and spend the money to protect them. Or are you willing to risk their lives until you can get the dough from the feds, just to save the state a few bucks? And come your 2008 presidential run, won't you be pitching a fit about the federal deficit, which you want to add to?
As I recall, Hillary jumped all over Bush in '01 demanding more cash immediately after he'd allocated a huge sum of money to NYC for disaster relief following 9/11.
Hillary will do just about anything to be the center of attention, especially when it comes to feathering her nest for a presidential run.
Wasn't it just several weeks ago that, when trying to get the Olympics in 2012, she was touting New York City as 'totally safe'?
Sounds like a bitchy woman to me. She should tone it down a little.
We can always try for safer. . .but safe will remain in our 'minds eye'.
Hillary is a typical, corrupted, empty Leftist; who gladly walks over the bodies of victims; dead and injured; so as to score her cheap, anti-Bush, political points.
And Repubs will let her get away with it as well. . .(her latest per Drudge. . .comparing President Bush to Alfred E. Newman).
During Rush's program on 9/8 - this transpired:
He played a clip of Clinton's comments and then his own comments and those of Chertoff.
CLINTON: We got an assurance from Secretary Chertoff that this would be a high priority, that it would be included when the president's budget came for homeland security. But the fact is, the president's budget calls for a $50 million cut in what we appropriated last year. Last year, although Chuck and I wanted more money and the Senate unanimously passed a bill for $570 million, we got $150 million out of the Congress.
RUSH: All right. So I just want to set this up. This is the day that al-Qaeda attacks London, and Hillary Clinton can't wait to race to the microphone to rip George W. Bush on the homeland security budget in this country.
Now, I understand she's got to run for reelection in New York in 2006, and this will play in New York. But this is not going to play in America. Yeah, I think it will play in New York, Mr. Snerdley. He's disagreeing with me.
Well, what did I see? A story the other day that some of the money -- I better not speculate. I can't remember. See, we gave somebody some money and they didn't spend it all and they came back. It was? Okay. It was New York. We gave them a whole bunch of money that they didn't spend, and we were threatening to take it back and we did take it back because they were not spending it.
But the point is, the day that al-Qaeda hits London, when ostensibly everybody is concerned about how they're dealing with the aftermath in London and trying to buck everybody up over there, what do the Democrats do but make a beeline for the microphones to just tar and feather George W. Bush.
Now, it may play in New York but this is not going to play in establishing Hillary Clinton as presidential. This is not what the American people want to hear. She can sit around and moan all day long about budget cuts in the homeland security department for New York and at the same time people can say there hasn't been an attack in New York since 9/11.
Now, Katie Couric had Chertoff on the program today, on the Today Show, and she took what Mrs. Clinton said and turned it around as a question to him. She said, "Is that appropriate, Mr. Secretary, a $50 million cut, given what happened in London yesterday and what happened in Madrid before that?"
CHERTOFF: I think that really understates the amount of money in the budget that's available for rail security. In fact, the president's budget talks about a dramatic increase in infrastructure protection, $600 million that would be available for rail security. It talks about billions of dollars in urban security initiatives, and part of that is available for rail security.
In fact, one of the big points of the president's budget has been to move to a risk-based funding effort, and that risk-based funding effort will take account of the vulnerability of mass transit, and consider our other vulnerabilities as well. So I think actually the president's budget is a very strong budget, not only on mass transit security, but on security across the board.
RUSH: So Chertoff has just explained why Hillary is wrong and he doesn't want anybody else complaining about it. Chertoff's good.
Psalm 127:1 Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
