Ex-President Bill Clinton criticized Sen. John Kerry on Friday, saying he lost his presidential bid last year because he was soft on national security.
Addressing Colorado's Aspen Ideas Institute, Clinton dissected Kerry's campaign with event moderator Walter Isaacson.
According to the Aspen Times, Clinton "blamed the Democratic candidate's soft stand on security" for his defeat.
He recalled that while campaigning on behalf of the Massachusetts Democrat last October, "it was clear even Kerry's supporters weren't clear on the candidate's position on national security."
"I think, in the end, he lost in a close race because of the security issue," Clinton told Isaacson.
He also said Kerry didn't do enough to reach out to rural voters, who were likely to support Bush.
"You can't win an election in this country unless you talk to people who you think aren't for you," Clinton said. "A person who wants to be president has to be at home with issues and people when he knows he's on the losing side."
Clinton was accompanied to Aspen by his wife, 2008 presidential hopeful and Kerry rival Hillary Clinton. Sen. Clinton was scheduled to address the Aspen Ideas Institute Sunday afternoon.
Ah, the knives come out for H!llary...
Kerry will just blame Schrum for it.
But... but... but isn't John Kerry a War Hero? Doesn't he speak fluent French?
I'm getting tired of reading this.
Newsflash: Hillary will appeal to those rural voters even less.
Thank you President "don't bother me about a WTC bombing while I'm getting a monica" for sharing your views on National Security.
I love it when the Demoncrats eat their own.
WOW...Called weak on National Security by Clinton the military loathing, anti-inteligence president has got to burn Kerry's buns.
Typical of the Dems, Clinton brings out the standard, demoRat methodology of chastizing their losers. Once a loser, always a loser (as if any of them are winners - in the true sense)... yes, we are seeing the gameplay for Hitlery, and it remains an obscene and disasterous idea to even think she could be a presidential candidate. That is like me being declared a brain surgeon. Total insanity.
Anyway, we are in for a couple of years of lies, distortions, bull excrement in record quantities, hyperbole, MSM spin and pandering, untold quantities of critcism for ANYTHING good that happens to America, and, well, we could go on all night on this list....
That's like a cotton ball calling a marshmallow soft and white...
So says the draft dodger to the war hero. Ah har har har ha ha
The dems are screwed if they pick hillary, we should all be urging them to do so, who the heck will vote for her!!!!! It will be the biggest landslide victory for the GOP if the dems pick her!
All I can say to Mr. Klintoon regarding his observation is: NO SH*T, SHERLOCK!
yup , its obvious , he is much more likable , so this is the pre-primary tour ,... BTW , he ought to just sit on her lap , then Sir Edmund Hillary "HERSELF" Clinton can act like the ventriloquist , while he woos&wows the crowds
So, is Bill Clinton agreeing with the SwiftVets?
(God Bless them!!!)
Occasinal-senator Kerry, your response please...
When we said it, we were UnAmerican for dissing a combat veteran; now that Billy's said it, months later, the DUers will be saying 'Amen!' and 'FINALLY someone has said it!' and 'Thank You, Mr. President!!!'
Clinton calling Kerry soft on defense? Well now, that really is the pig calling the donkey "long ears."
Literally, in this case.
