'Cooter' Urges Fans to Skip 'Dukes' Movie

ATLANTA - If television's "Crazy Cooter" has his way, fans of the "Dukes of Hazzard" may be speeding away from a new movie version of the cornpone classic faster than the Duke boys running from Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane.

Ben Jones, a former Georgia congressman who played the wisecracking mechanic on the popular series from 1979-85, said profanity and sexual content in the film make a mockery of the family friendly show.

"Basically, they trashed our show," said Jones, who now lives in the mountains of Washington, Va. "It's one thing to do whatever movie they want to do, but to take a classic family show and do that is like taking "I Love Lucy" and making her a crackhead or something."

Jones said he read a script of the movie, which is scheduled to be released next month, and that it contained profanity, "constant sexual innuendo and some very clear sexual situations."

Ben Jones is actually a "reasonable" democrat. He was very anti-Clinton after the Lewinski scandal. I didn't like him when he campaigned against Newt though.

Hollywood did the same thing with the Cat in the Hat.

I physically broke the DVD in half after seeing the following two scenes: The Cat in the Hat gets an erect tail after seeing a picture of the kids mother and The Cat steps on a garden hoe and says "Dirty Hoe!"

But Hey, Mike Myers doesn't have any kids so why should he care?...

I haven't seen much 'Dukes' either since those days when I lived for Friday nights so I could watch them as a kid. I wasn't a fan of the 'fake Dukes' either, but I still watched.

I didn't remember that episode from 1979. I've seen the documentary that's been on cable as part of the movie hype. They show the scene where Roscoe shoots the perp to compare the grittier early episodes to the formula that made the show what it is remembered for.

I won't be paying my seven bucks to see that trash either. I wouldn't mind seeing Jessica Simpson in those shorts, but her goofy acting will kill the effect for me.

ROFL!

Now I like Zepplin, but that just doesn't fit.

Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, Waylon Jennings....

Rat-faced Stifler as Bo Duke? Johnny Knoxville as Luke? Hell no, I'm won't go!

But Jessica Simpson in Daisy Duke shorts will be worth it!

Saw the previews - no way. Classic Dukes should have been left alone.

All the hot chicks I knew in 1979 are extremely overweight now.

Now this really aggravates me. My grandson is just now getting into the old show on DVD and will surely want to see the movie. Sounds like he won't be able to.

I can think of several remakes that sucked big time.

Wild Wild West
Honeymooners
War of the Worlds
I Spy
Mission Impossible
My Favorite Martian
You could probably add to the list of TV Sitcoms that Hollywood screwed the pooch on. However, Maverick was entertaining.

Hi All-

The remake of The Honeymooners probably should be titled something completely different since it bears no resemblance to the original. Cedric the Entertainer as Ralph Kramden? Please.
