U-S Rep. Miller hints at challenge to Granholm

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. Congresswoman Candice Miller is hinting that she might try to unseat Governor Granholm in 2006.

Miller, a Republican from Macomb County's Harrison Township, says she thinks Democrat Granholm is beatable. She says she has several months to decide whether to run for governor.

The 51-year-old Miller was elected to Congress in 2002 after serving two terms as Michigan Secretary of State.

She tells the "Macomb Daily" newspaper of Mount Clemens that Granholm is vulnerable because of Michigan's high unemployment and the loss of thousands of manufacturing jobs.

Three other Republicans are seeking the G-O-P nomination. They are west Michigan businessman Dick DeVos, state Senator Nancy Cassis of Novi and state Representative Jack Hoogendyk of Kalamazoo.

I'll vote for Miller based on her immigration stance alone.

She has already been elected to state-wide office.

She has name recognition.

And she is a she.

But she has to beat billionaire DeVos.

Statewide, Sec of State 1998
Miller(R) 67.68%
Parks(D) 30.84%

And she even won WAYNE County.

She won Wayne County?

Wow, the Dems must have decided that there was no possible way they could stuff enough ballots to change the outcome and decided to let it go.

Yep, although Geoff Fieger helped out quite a bit. Fieger was at the top of the democrat ticket and hurt the whole ticket. Engler won every county except Wayne that year.

Miller was popular for cutting lines in the secretary of state office and didn't have Engler's negatives, but benefitted from his positives. She ran about 3-4% ahead of Engler statewide that year.

WOW -- that'd be awesome! I'd given up on Rogers and Miller running. Is Valde Garcia still considering the race?

Is Dick DeVos the guy who created the DeVos Foundation?

Answer to my own question: Yes, he is.

Wow. Candice Miller AND Richard DeVos in one race. Damn! Spread the heroes around to some other races, guys :^D

(And five demerits to anyone who links their first names in an unsavory manor!)

Four more years of Gov. Granola and part-time hamburger flipper will be considered a stable, high-paying job.

Where are Granola's job approval ratings sitting at now? I read 37% and 51% approval. The numbers are all over the place.

She can't do any worse than Granholm. Come to think of it, no one could.

That would be great if it happened. If Miller runs, who would run to succeed her in the House?

Yah, that's what I was gonna say. I think Miller would cruse through. She might even be able to help Butler or whomever else with her coattails.

I think it's 37% approve, and 51% disapprove.

Maybe Dick Posthumus? Does he live in her district?

I've heard a lot of good things about him, and he ran a good, but very difficult race for Governor. He'd be a good Rep.
