Wilson Admits Wife Not a 'Covert' Agent (CNN Interview transcript)
CNN | 7-14-05 | Wolf Blitzer

Posted on 07/15/2005 8:37:10 AM PDT by The Old Hoosier

While many news sources report it as fact, it is very unclear what Valerie Plame's status is/was. Here's the most important part of Wilson's interview from last night. In order to protect himself from criticism about the Vanity Fair photo shoot, the book deal, and his generally self-aggrandizing, self-enriching behavior since July 2003, Wilson admits that his wife was not a covert agent:

BLITZER: But the other argument that's been made against you is that you've sought to capitalize on this extravaganza, having that photo shoot with your wife, who was a clandestine officer of the CIA, and that you've tried to enrich yourself writing this book and all of that.

What do you make of those accusations, which are serious accusations, as you know, that have been leveled against you.

WILSON: My wife was not a clandestine officer the day that Bob Novak blew her identity.

BLITZER: But she hadn't been a clandestine officer for some time before that?

WILSON: That's not anything that I can talk about. And, indeed, I'll go back to what I said earlier, the CIA believed that a possible crime had been committed, and that's why they referred it to the Justice Department.

She was not a clandestine officer at the time that that article in Vanity Fair appeared. And I have every right to have the American public know who I am and not to have myself defined by those who would write the sorts of things that are coming out, being spewed out of the mouths of the RNC...

The only thing that worries is me is that the CIA referred it for prosecution, so they obviously believed it met the statute. In addition, Fitzgerald sure has taken a long time if its so simple that there was no crime.

The guy is still lying, and Blitzer is still letting him get away with it.

The Intel committee had the memo Mrs. Wilson wrote recommending him for the job.

They are still letting Wilson get away with calling his visit to Niger an "investigation", which it flatly was not. He investigated nothing at all. What he did, he could have done by telephone without ever leaving his apartment. "Did you make any illegal sales? No? OK, thanks."

There was no investigation.

According to this morning's New York Times, a "political maelstorm" is swirling around the White House.
More like a marshmallow. This is all a bunch of nothing! And Dems and MoveOn.org are looking like fools for trying to make this Watergate II.

The whole tone of that thread is a LOT different from the anger and jubillation of yesterday. They're very subdued.

I expect the real rage to hit later today, but that's a surprisingly subdued thread for a bunch who are supposedly celebrating Rove's impending destruction.

"... because she hadn't been since the day Novak outed her."

Just my read. I tend to think that the answer only means something in context of the question. YMMV.

I see - you are saying the key is SINCE he "outed" her - Wilson is suggesting that she was "clandestine agent" up to that point.

Plame was NOT, I repeat was NOT a covert agent stationed overseas. So the law DOES NOT APPLY to Plame. Period! The whole purpose of the law was/is to protect agents stationed overseas. Employees working at Langley certainly don't qualify.

I think that Plame and Wilson were outed. Plame's supervisor, Foley suddenly retired when this story went public two summers ago.

Plame/Wilson are probably friends of Judith Miller and brought her on board in the early stages of their sham. Miller sold the editors and publisher of the Slimes to go big with the story.

Now she is going to jail rather than admit that she got her info from Plame/Wilson, which would really put the Slimes in an even worse place with this mess.

Before this is over, a lot of Rat moles, liars and plotters will be outed.

It depends on what your definition of is is.

Our daughter is taking a college psychology class this summer and her instructor was talking about communication.

She said something to the effect, "I won't even talk about our present president's communication skills."

Our daughter said, "Well, at least he knows the definition of 'is'." No response from the prof... Wonder why?

Wow, I just read through the thread. That is TOO funny! How are they ever going to take back the White House if everyone is a conspirator. The DUmmies are whacked out.

Understandable because it was common knowledge among the presstitutes shortly after the 5-year window expired. The question of when they found out and, if it was before 5 years, who told them remains unanswered (IMHO, it came from a RAT mole, possibly the Wilsons themselves; but I'm not giving odds on whether that happened before or after it became legal to do so).

LOL EXACTLY--I mentioned that last night. That sucker evaporated overnight.

BTW just now the local (Boston) news came on, the ABC affiliate--Rove wasn't mentioned in the opening teaser, which managed to mention the Space Shuttle and two local stories.

Apparently Plame's cover job for her covert activities was her position at Langley CIA headquarters. No other 'cover' has been put forth. Even Maxwell Smart would have had a better cover job than this.

Question after Wilson admits she was not "covert" at the time Novak article came out.

BLITZER: But she hadn't been a clandestine officer for some time before that?

WILSON: That's not anything that I can talk about.

If he was not able to discuss when the last time she was a
clandestine officer then he shouldn't have discussed if she was or wasn't on that day which he said she wasn't. He slipped, he screwed up but the truth was revealed and everyone knows exactly what he meant with what he said.

Here MY conspiracy theory.

Ahem....

Judith Miller's "source" IS Rove, and the going to jail act is a big attention getting device so when this whole matter comes to a boil - and they put bamboo splints under here fingernails - she will suddenly cry out "Rove! It was Rove!!!" Then the MSM will have a field day waxing poetic about how the heroic Judith Miller suffered so much sticking by her principals in order to protect the Evil Rove.
This whole thing was cooked up by the NYT editorial board in a double-secret undocumented board meeting in the backroom of the Harvard Club in Manhattan about 2 years ago. As we speak, the evil "Pinch" is rubbing his hands together in glee as it play out exactly according to his dastardly plan.
