IFC & Drawing Center to be Reconsidered July 15th, 2005 In what can only be described as a major victory in the fight to get the IFC and the Drawing Center off the site at Ground Zero, the LMDC has announced they are looking for alternative sites for the two cultural centers. However, in making that announcement, LMDC Board Chairman John Whitehead immediately downplayed the expectation of finding another location.
The World Trade Center Memorial Foundation, acknowledging protests by relatives of Sept. 11 victims, is taking one last look at alternatives to placing a museum of freedom and art museum adjacent to the planned memorial, foundation chairman John Whitehead said.

Do you have a specific contact person you're emailing/calling? It might help to find a reporter/editor who seems sympathetic to the story and focus on them. I'm not sure what else to suggest there. Who's got experience dealing with the media here?
For the newspaper I've contacted, I have a specific reporter I tried bringing the info to. I've been in contact with him before on other stories. I've got a feeling from the way things happened, the story was crushed from above. That is my opinion.
Our local news radio station, I've sent info to several sources. Not a peep on the air about this story. A strange happening there too.
If they're crushing it from above, I'd think there's probably not much you can do with that particular paper unless the national news picks it up and they're forced to cover it because everyone else is. One other idea, though: if you know a local citizen who's prominent and conservative, maybe you could convince them to pressure the paper. Find some conservatives with clout in the area and get them to help, maybe.
Yes. Tried. That was strange too.
Appreciate the input though. Thanks.
FANTASTIC NEWS!! We must keep the pressure on.
Hmm. I'm stumped, too, then. One last idea: wait until some bigger media outside the area pick up the story, then xerox a copy and send it around to the local media to show them that other people are covering it and they're getting scooped.
If that doesn't work, rent a jet to write a skywriting ad, LOL.

Ok. You got me there. I didn't try that :P
I have read many of your posts here and have a lot of respect for you ideals. Try this...
1. Buy a subscription for home delivery.
2. Start posting every day to the editor/op-ed page via snail mail and email the message you want heard.
3. Give the paper one week then cancel your subscription and start printing flyers with your same message with a bold headline like "What your local paper refuses to publish". Insert the flyers into plastic page protectors (you can fit ten or twelve sheets) and hang on telephone poles next to their newsstands or boxes. I suspect that you will get their attention pretty quick.
And they have the nerve to complain about the sweetheart deals negotiated by other corporate entities?
Pfft!
What really irked me about the attitude of the person being interviewed, who was representing this pretentious, psuedo-sophisticated, supposedly artistic endeavor-and I refuse to confer an honorific, such as the term "art," upon the dreck that these troglodytes try to foist upon overly credulous faux Boho trash-is that it assumed that they were doing us a favor by gracing that hallowed ground with their ill-conceived, aesthetically revolting, anti-American pablum!
The good news is that this has occasioned "second thoughts" by several other of these self-loathing, hypocritical profiteers, who are now concerned that the future of the projects they've been commissioned to do-if not the entire underlying concept of the IFC-will be put in jeopardy after Governor Pataki and Mayor Bloomberg receive enough public pressure from aggrieved constituents.
Which is why we can't reiterate it strongly enough, KEEP THEM ON THE RUN!
The opinion of Soros and his contemptible clique of America-hating, socialist, Europhile speculators becomes immaterial, once you realize that the feckless, insipid pols who enabled them to even contemplate this outrage will truckle under enough public pressure.
They can feel the shifting political winds and don't want to be left on the wrong side of history.
They serve only with our consent!
Remember that!

there are two ways to act...
1. Be Bold (It will cost you in time and money but you keep your pride).
2. Be Safe (Won't cost you anything but your pride).
This is a take on war. Sometimes it's better to fight the battles you can win...
I am fighting.

I live with the memory of the sweet children on my lap asking how daddy fit in that little box. so don't worry about my drive on getting this info out. I have a nightmare that drives me.
Damn straight!
I hope as many Freepers deluge the LMDC with calls and e-mails.
If they won't do that, they can easily sign the petition at:

Once anyone takes a look at the artists drawing of the IFC at Ground Zero, they'll agree that it has no place there.
I'm still so upset about this matter, but I like your idea and will sleep with a smile on my face thinking of it.
Rebuild the Twin Towers. Only higher.
When we felt loss, know that it was your loss we felt.
When we mourned, know that it was with you that we mourned.
As we fight, know that it is for you that we fight.
When we are victorious, know that our victory will be yours.
In all, these past and future things are at every moment present with us. Amid the press of the daily, both past and future live pure in our minds and hearts. They are within us a power that drives us ever forward; the past because it cannot be changed; the future because it can.
Faith, O Daughter of Eve. Faith.
Text of email to LMDC follows:
Desecration of the "ground Zero" site by the inclusion of the so-called "International Freedom Center" is patently unacceptable. To engage such destructive political rhetoric upon the graves of the victims of the 9-11 terrorist attacks -- disfiguring the scene of their violent and tragic deaths into a platform for malicious lies and slander against the United States -- is thoroughly unconscionable.
If interested parties desire to erect such a travesty of anti-American propaganda, I am sure that they would be able to find ready acceptance at institutions having similar philosophical leanings. Such an institution may even be able and willing to assist in providing facility space in a building they already own, saving the time and expense of procuring real estate for the project.
I suggest that you have them contact the New York Times or the United Nations; We, the People, are already accustomed to these sources spewing denigrating rhetoric about America, so either one ought to be a perfect match for the IFC.
