How did we lose a war we didn't declare?
Vietnam was a tactical loss in the Cold War. However, it had strategic value. We held the line for years, and gave time for other countries to mature in peace.
If we had not fought in Vietnam, many other countries (and the Cold War) would have been lost.
The men who died did not die in vain.
Go study history before spewing again. Those 56,000 men died for our freedom and had it not been for Walter Cronkite saying we had lost the war during Tet, South Vietnam would be a free country today.
Until old Walter's "We've lost the war" speech, most Americans supported the war and had the will to win it. After Tet the VC was basically a spent force. All we had to do was keep pounding them and the war would have been over within a year or two. Instead the nation went wobbly (just like you) and scared Washington into screwing up everything.

BULLSHIT!!!! Vietnam was a battle in the larger Cold War. The Soviets were not going to get additional proxies without paying a price for it. We showed in Vietnam that we had the resolve to do just that. It's the pansy-assed anti-war protestors that have the blood of two million Cambodians on their hands, for forcing us out of Southeast Asia before we could finish the job. That having been said LBJ almost single-handedly destroyed this country along with McNamara for the way he micromanaged the war.
RIP, Sir.
